To keep track of the dark magical girl shows (mahou shoujo) you've seen or to find more. I've put shows in the same series in the correct watch order so you can just go through them from this list.
Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku
TV, 2016, 12 eps Me:- Author:4
This show would've been better if they didn't kill off so many characters so quickly. You get a bit of information about them, and then they're killed off. There's not enough time to get interested in them, or for them to develop relationships. Otherwise it could've been pretty good, because what's there is okay, it just didn't have enough time to develop it. The ending is kind of stupid too, but not the worst.

It's not terrible, but it's not something you're gonna remember much of. To be honest the show would've been better if the concept was just played straight and they just let the show get a bit darker here and there.
Mahou Shoujo Site
TV, 2018, 12 eps Me:- Author:4
The early parts are okay. The way the powers work are dark, but to the point I can't see why most of the people would even want to use them. The concept of the website is great, it's just too bad they didn't do much with it. It gets kind of stupid at some point later on, it can be predictable, but overall it's not terrible.
Granbelm
TV, 2019, 13 eps Me:- Author:4
An interesting concept where the magic girls pilot magical constructs that are essentially mechs, in a tournament fighting against each other. The ending is the most generic obvious shit you could've seen from a mile away, trying to rationalize it as something deep and clever. Aside from the ending, getting there was okay, although they really didn't do much with most of the characters or the fact that they were all fighting each other.
Wonder Egg Priority
TV, 2021, 12 eps Me:- Author:5
The show is about issues that push teenagers to suicide, specifically teenage girls. The monsters they fight are generally manifestations of the abuse or trauma of girls who have committed suicide. The girls can turn objects they have a connection to into weapons in the other world, and the main character can do the same with objects tied to the girls she's saving.

The idea is good, but the execution isn't always the best. There are some problems, but overall I think it's interesting enough to give it a try. There is a bit more to the story, and I think it does get more interesting at the end, it also goes in a slightly different direction compared to the usual show in this category. Episode 8 is a recap, you can skip it.

To be honest, a lot of what drags this show down involves the crossdressing character. Most of the stuff with her just kind of seems shoved in, as if it was trying to be current. Ultimately it's a small part, but it would've been nice if more time were spent on the more supernatural or esoteric aspects of the show, or even just developing the other characters a bit more. It's still one of the better shows on this list despite the flaws.
Wonder Egg Priority: Watashi no Priority
TV Special, 2021, 1 ep Me:- Author:5
Some people say you shouldn't watch it, but you really need to in order to know what ultimately happens. It's more of just another episode than a special and the first 25 minutes is a recap so you can just skip to that point.

I think it was fine, the way certain things worked is what I was expecting, and it can still go somewhere from here. Even though I just thought the show was okay, it was interesting enough that I'd watch a second season.

The complaints are justified in some regards though, it does kind of breeze past certain things and have characters act slightly different without really showing the development or letting you know their thoughts. These aren't major problems though, so I do think the special is still worth watching.

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru

Mai-HiME Specials
Special, 2005, 27 eps Me:- Author:-
Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka
TV, 2019, 12 eps Me:- Author:-
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica
TV, 2011, 12 eps Me:- Author:5
If you've never seen an edgy magical girl show, this is probably the series to start with. I'm not a big fan but I don't think any of the other shows are much better, and some are worse, so it's an okay introduction to the subgenre.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 3: Hangyaku no Monogatari
Movie, 2013, 1 ep Me:- Author:5
The first two movies are recaps of the show, so just watch this after the show unless you want to rewatch everything with slight changes.
Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden
TV, 2020, 13 eps Me:- Author:-
A spinoff series with different characters. If you're a big fan of Madoka Magica and you want to see more set in the same universe it could be worth giving a try.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Movie 4: Walpurgis no Kaiten
Movie, 2025, 1 ep Me:- Author:-
The script was written before the spinoff show was made, so it should come directly after the third movie unless they've changed it to involve Magia Record. If you don't like the spinoff you probably don't need to force yourself to watch it before the movie comes out.
