K-On! (Anime) add (All reviews)
Apr 3, 2019
Ten years ago, on April 3rd 2009 an anime started to air in Japan that rocked your socks off with it's intro song (and ending song), while also tons of people have gotten moe diabetes. That's right, I'm talking about K-On! I remember very well that I took a long time distance from this anime just because back then I just didn't liked the Slice of Life genre in general because in my point of view back then the SoL genre was nothing but just plain boring. Back then I was 20 years old and I was in a huge crippling depression because of persoal reasons and felt the need to be an edgy internet troll just to feel a bit better about myself on a dating webstite that was well known among youngsters that served as purpose as a MySpace for people living in Belgium and the Netherlands. However, I do remember my very first time watching this anime when I finally gave this anime a chance because I was mainly bored out of my mind couple only about a year ago. After watching K-On! for the very frst time, it was set in stone; I've become a 'moe-blob'. Now I'm finally writing this review after a rewatch to celebrate it's 10th birthday. Incase you haven't heard of K-On! because you were living under a rock the past 10 years, no it's not a drug. Well, technically it could be classified a hard-drug that gives you the 'moe diabetes' but that's a differnt story. Anyway, happy birthday K-On!

Story: 9/10 (Great)
The story begins with a young girl named Yui Hirasawa that's attenting high school for the very first time. Yui is a little adorable careless girl with her head into the clouds. She doesn't really have any goals in life, yet she somehow joins the light music club in her school. The story is not really about the music itself, but instead we get to see how Yui's new friends she made interact with each other while the light music club grows as a band, but also as a group of friends. The anime itself is very mundane to watch and is perfect for anyone that likes the idea of cute anime girls doing cute things, procrastinating, drinking tea, eating cake and sometimes music.

Art-style: 8/10 (Very Good)
For an anime that's already 10 years old the art-style is still wonderfull to this day and very pleasant for the eye. But then again, it's coming from Kyoto Animation. The faces and expressions are very well detailed so you have no problem in what kind of emotion your charather is having. Background art is pleasant for the eye, which also counts for the animation, which should come as no surprise. The quality is noticable, since we know that KyoAni pays their workers on salary, instead of by the drawing unlike many other studio's, so it's not really a suprise KyoAni does so well in the anime industry compaired with other studio's.

Sound: 9/10 (Great)
If you like rock-like music and/or J-pop, your heart and/or ears will go 'doki doki'. The voice acting is wonderfull done and the voice acting was done great. The opening song rocked my socks off the first time I heard it and the ending song 'Don't Say Lazy' made me burst into tears the first time I heard/read it. Oh, and the bockground music, well, some of them are very earwormy as well. Just to let you know. If you're wondering, my favorite background music would be "Pinch Daisuki" because it's so catchy, cute and earwormy and is in my opinion the most memorable background jingle out there. I admit I sometimes whistle some songs from this anime while doing my job in real life. They are that enjoyable to listen to.

Character: 9/10 (Great)
I guess it's now time to introduce you a bit more about the charathers. First of all to start, we have Ritsu. Ritsu is the energetic tomboy of the show. Ritsu plays the drums and is also the club president. Then we have Mio. Mio is Ritsu's long time friend with a cute 'tsundere' vibe that's serves mainly as the song writer of the group and plays the bass guitar. Mio also gets easily embarrassed by gross things like ghosts and barnacles. Then we have Tsumugi aka. "Mugi" that plays the keyboard. She comes from a wealthy family. Lucky for us, she doesn't have a spoiled rich kid attitute unlike in real life, but she's also a very gentle young girl. Last but not least, we have Yui. Personally my favorite if I have to choose. But I already told about her previously in this review, so I'm not going to repeat myself.

A later main addition to the cast is Azusa, an underclassman who is much like a more micro tsudere version of Mio. There are minor characters too in the show like Ui Hirasawa, what's Yui's younger (but more mature and reliable sister) and we also have Nodoka, which is Yui's friend from around kindergarden. Miss Sawako Yamanaka is a music teacher and is also very enjoyable to watch, especcially for the heavy metal fans under us.

Enjoyment: 10/10 (Masterpiece)
On the enjoyment department, well, I really have to admit I really feel warm and fuzzy for this anime. It's a shame I've distaced myself for so long from this anime, but I'm glad I could discover this anime. This anime brings me so much joy, but watching the whole K-On series gave me also tears of sadness and happieness combined. If you ask me to name a few anime that are my favorite; K-On! would be one of my picks for sure I would automatically would choose. There is nothing quite like a well-written feel-good anime, especially just after you're feeling depressed for some reason. K-On! is just what I needed to lift my spirit. You can probably classify K-On! as a hard-drug instead of a moe blob anime, because this anime sure did gave me the 'moe diabetes'.

Overall: 9/10 (Great)
In overall, this anime I'd like to crown as one of my mayor favorites mainly because this anime gave me too much moe diabetes when I first saw this anime, so yeah, there's that. Sure, even as one of my favorite anime like K-On! even has it's own flaws and I'd love to discuss you this by mainly telling that perhaps maybe the charathers are a bit too perfect for my liking or the mundane interactions between charathers sometimes feel a bit repetitive at times, but in overall the anime is to me just great. Highly recommend if you like a Slice of Life anime in a school setting! I really can't complain about this anime. Fun things are indeed fun!
