love to hear it
Jazzimus Jan 14, 8:43 AM
thanks alot! turn A is amazing, would definitely recommend it if you have the time to watch it, there is nothing else truly like it

your taste in anime and characters is great as well. one thing i was wondering was regarding your rating of 6 for Bloom into You, just because i love that show alot.
Veronin Jan 3, 2021 3:19 PM
Hell yeah.
glassknuckles Sep 27, 2019 3:03 PM

oh yeah, I remember her from this image that was making the rounds awhile ago, she is pretty impressive

I wish Shiho Yoshimura would pick me up with her strong arms and crush my head between her thighs
10/10

I could totally see Mamako playing volleyball

i'd watch it but it feels wrong watching such a summery anime when it's almost winter, next years summer if I remember lol.

yeah, I understand that

I'm still hoping that that there will be a season 2 of Hanebado, because that show had some amazing animation and choreography for some of its matches. Also Nagisa was a 10/10, cute angry tomboy that has never skipped leg day. I swear the girls sweat so much in that anime, the court is basically a swimming pool by the time they're done playing

mmf, that gif is why I started watching it
I guess I didn't stick with it because drama, but I should probably go back to watching it sometime.

Yeah there is also a scene earlier on when the main girl offers her urine to drink because 'it's sterile when it's fresh'

I think the only think that could make this anime sound any more appealing to me would be if they referenced the movie Castaway with Tom Hanks
glassknuckles Sep 26, 2019 6:36 PM
Today I discovered the perfect waifu exists
Everything about her body is perfect- thighs, butt, arms, cute haircut

time to to watch Are You Lost

don't tend to see many characters with green hair nowadays

I think purple might be another endangered color, though I might not be paying attention
seems like anime has been sticking to the natural range of human hair colors this decade

closeureyes Sep 26, 2019 2:01 PM
I will always love Kuriyama and her phrase "fuyukai desu"
glassknuckles Sep 23, 2019 9:33 PM
re: the abridged video
i've not seen that thanks for sharing lol that was great

you're welcome, that's a favorite of mine

Felix was the real best girl of re:zero but everyone was too much of a coward to admit it

I liked Crusch and Priscilla too. I'd vote for them.

People even went as far to draw fan art of the yandere girl:

yeah, that's a bridge too far

Btw I finished Sakurako-san, I am kind of sad that there was never a season 2 for that show since that it started to get interesting with the last case & the creepy no hair painter dude. I really liked her magical-girl esque ostelogy themed sequence whenever she was about to clear up an investigation lol, that was cool af. Tfw no more bone loving oujo-san with long black hair that loves eating sweets to solve mystery bone cases with :'(

Yeah, I wanted to see more too. I planning to do a rewatch of it soon.

seen any good anime butts lately?
glassknuckles Sep 22, 2019 11:46 PM
Also Felix from re:zero, he's the only catboy (as opposed to catgirl, that looks really weird writing that) I've seen ever but he acts so feminine and cutesy that you can't even tell the difference.

yes, Felix is great!
obligatory
also obligatory

I just thought it was some fucked up ritual the old uncle was performing because he could

well, he did also sneak something else in there...but that's a secret

I can understand the appeal but I don't think I could ever settle for a full on yandere.

Yeah, yandere are fun for me to watch in anime but I know irl they're sort of troublesome lol
but the possessiveness and devoted attnetion is kinda appealing
glassknuckles Sep 21, 2019 5:35 PM
astolfo is the first thing that comes to mind upon reading this.

same
the other femboy i can think of who explicitly identifies as straight and male is the one in the Pet Girl of Sakurasou
I never watched enough of Teenage RomCom SNAFU to know Saika whether Saika identifies as male or what, but I thought he was a tomboy girl at first
Ruka in Stein's Gate is the only one I can think of that at the moment that identifies as male but explicitly would rather be female

Was sakura's 'safe' version the worms in UBW? that was pretty disturbing

oh, no, the worms are how the Matou family passed along their magical heredity to her, containing their knowledge of spells similar to the magic crest made up of magic circuits that would be used by a less abusive mage family.
So they aren't a sex metaphor...exactly...

In the "safe" version Sakura is a vampire and sucks Shirou's blood instead of...other stuff.
either way, Sakura is Fate's secret

P.S. if you're wondering why I've changed my username, I'm particular about my usernames being all lowercase, and since MAL isn't case sensitive when changing usernames I opted to change it to this alternative one.

That did make me do a double-take lol
glassknuckles Sep 19, 2019 6:34 PM
How they could mistake a femboy for a transwoman is impressive, it's as if they're unaware that a guy can have effeminate charm.

Yes, I find that anime has done a number on my perception of gender over the years. It really challenges the boundaries of what a heterosexual male can look like.

I really do think the perspective in anime, in which gender is more of a chosen behavior, is correct. In Catherine Full Body, the player's character Vincent even says "gender is state of mind"...I really think that Japanese rigidity of gender irl is a Western sin, from the adoption of a bad Western influence.

In the West we have a deeply rooted legacy of 19th century medicalization of sexuality; that was the first time that, if someone had homosexual sex, that was used to define their entire identity as "homosexual." So in the USA you are not allowed to say that human sexual behavior is fluid and can be chosen, since leftwingers will assume you are a Christian who is anti-gay, and you must ironically perpetuate the 19th century position that being gay is a biological condition, a category originally created to oppress gay people. We have to create a "bisexual" category as another "biological condition" to justify the lack of hard boundaries in some people's sexual references.

Wasnt the original fate/stay night VN an eroge? Perhaps you could elaborate as to that side of the story, lest I'm mistaken

Yes it is. Same with the first Type-Moon VN, Tuskihime is an eroge too. There's no need to play the original "hardcore" version of F/SN since there is a sanitized version, Realta Nua, for PS2 (with no sex at all) that adds improvements like voice acting and the ability to play routes in any order.

I think that it's reductionist to say that F/SN and Tsukihime are porn games (that would be a nukige), as Western Fate detractors are inclined to do, since the sex scenes are integrated into the story and are not a significant part of the content of what are basically 60 hour+ interactive e-books. Are they good sex scenes though, that answer to that is usually a "no" since Nasu is a comically bad sex writer (maybe on purpose?) but he uses sex well in a horror setting as is the case in Tsukihime's Dark Side of the Moon routes and with Sakura in Heaven's Feel. Her "safe" version is still mildly disturbing compared to Rin's "mana dolphins" or whatever they had in the anime.

That said, there are definitely other people who know more about the circumstances and logic at Type-Moon / Nasu better than me.

Btw how is Cop Craft animation/story wise in the later episodes? I might give it another chance, mainly just because I love the VA of the main male lead. He usually always voices villians so it's nice to see him having a protagonist role. He fits the washed up grumpy cop role perfectly lol

Animation-wise, it's pretty disappointing. I hate to say it, since this anime started pretty strong but after episode 7 there are one and a half filler episodes in whcih the story takes a nosedive. Luckily the story arc right now, involving racism and political violence, is pretty good and as an American, I think it's a reminder that America is presenting a shameful image to the world right now, but I'm also glad that in Asia America is still standing for some positive ideas too about personal freedom.
glassknuckles Sep 18, 2019 9:15 PM

I agree, I can't think of any examples of people being annoyed at the lack of Western values in Japan

i was thinking of the media reaction to Catherine Full Body, wherein reviewers couldn;'t understand that femboys / traps are not transwomen and couldn't decide if the game was transphobic, and you get cancer comments between social justice warriors who think that Japan should be held to Western standards for social justice and reject cultural relativism (which is a real facepalm inducing idea). On subjects related to Japan online one finds that the casual Japan-bashers come out with grudges on WWII, whaling or women's rights and it's such garbage, since Norway hunts the most whales and Japan ranked higher than the US on safety for women)

It is pretty interesting to see the cultural differences in romantic relationships, I can imagine someone from the West getting annoyed/confused at some sort of romance anime along the lines of: 'bruh just ask them on a date, why are you flat out telling them you love them that's creepy as hell' lol

The "love confession" seems logical to me in school setting anyway...I know I did something like that once when i was in school. (It didn't work out lol)

Ah ok. Since you are a Fate junkie, did you read through the visual novels at all?

Yes, I read both Fate Stay Night and Hollow Ataraxia. Bg Fate junkie, guilty as charged lol
The Nasuverse is one of the few Japanese properties that has a universe that's big enough to have so much detail in it, like Star Wars or Star Trek.

The visual novel really is the best way to experience Fate imo, though I got into Fate from the anime that were out at the time (Fate Zero and the 2006 Fate Stay Night)

I do like the concepts that they use but I felt like it all got a bit samey with them just repeating grail wars with servants and magic etc. Are works in the Nasuverse all that connected to Fate? Or is it just that they share similar concepts like magic and such?

it's actually more like everything in the Nasuverse is connected to Kara no Kyoukai. That's "the root", if you will, since Nasu first invented the system of magic and how mages worked in Kara no Kyoukai. In particular, the quest to find the Root that the Tohsakas are obsessed with and would use the Grail for in Fate, is first described in Kara no Kyoukai, as the objective of its mages. Some other aspects of Nasuverse that appeared in Fate, mainly the Holy Church, originated from the vampire visual novel Tsukihime. So basically as Fate got bigger the more peripheral Fate anime started referencing the other aspects of the Nasuverse that predated it like vampires (the Dead Apostles, who iirc are really just corrupted mages). So to answer your second question, Fate Stay Night is just one thing that happens in a much bigger connected mainline universe, and Kara No Kyoukai, Tsukihime and Fate Stay Night all exist in the same timeline- one magus from Kara no Kyoukai even has a role in Heaven's Feel. (Fate Apocrypha, however, is an alternate timeline).
As for Fate Grand Order, I'm pretty sure its on its own alternate timeline as well, but I don't really know since I don't keep up with it that much.

I'm not going to watch the new Fate Babylonia but I assume you will, bet the animation will be good with all the whale cash from Fate/GO lol

i will, but I bet I'm going to be confused lol

Babylon (some sort of thriller about illegal drug research),

oh yeah, I have that in my planning on anilist I think.

Oh and Kandagawa Jet Girls, you should watch the PV for that lol. It's a sports anime about girls riding jetskis but the designs for the girls costumes and jetskis are actually really cool

This sounds like a winner lol

glassknuckles Sep 15, 2019 5:34 PM
I lol'd at how the main grunt they sent to their guild house was called Pocchi. I guess it was just her own self insert reference but except with her being a big muscle man that wants 'bed service' from mamako lol

nice catch, that flew right over my head

It does make me wonder if the results from those surveys from the 80s & 90s still hold true in modern japan, with the previous quote kind of tying into their work ethic (salarymen not wanting to disappoint their bosses, respecting their seniors)

That's a good question. What I know about Japan is limited to the 20th century for the most part, since the 80s-90s is my favorite era of anime I guess.

I guess so lol. I recall hearing about how there was a lot of hate in the japanese audience for Masato because of how poorly he treated his mother in the first few episodes

That's a pretty interesting case of values dissonance since here I think we recognize the poor kid just wants to breathe a little. For example, Masato has to apologize and gets no concession from Mamako that she will give him more space, like one would expect in an American drama. It's good that every so often anime reminds me that Japan is "not Western" or more accurately, "not Americanized."

I think that in the West people get upset when they are reminded through Japanese media that Japan is not a Western but Asian country even though it is a first world country; and because it has different cultural values but has a high standard of living people be like "why doesn't Japan conform to whatever Western value I think it should? that's backward."

Lol. I just read the synopsis for that anime and the plot sounds pretty amusing.

I liked it. It has sukeban and a sukeban MILF , which gave me a new fetish for MILF sukeban. If you are able to find it somewhere, it's only one episode and the story is unfinished, but where else are you going to see a boy pretending to be a sukeban fight with other delinquent girls and fart in their faces? thanks, Go Nagai

I was wondering why she was in there, but I did appreciate the magically powered up catfight her and Rin had. Luvia performed an excellent suplex, 10/10.

Basically, the last UBW episode, as an epilogue, draws some inspiration from scenes in Hollow Ataraxia in which Rin takes the next step in her development as a magus and goes to the Clock Tower and gets into a fight with Luvia.
If I may dump some lore on you:

I still do want to watch the heaven's feel films so I'll keep that in mind.

Heaven's Feel is the best storyline in Fate, it' so good.

You excited for any of the seasonals next month?

I actually don't know what's coming out at all...
glassknuckles Sep 13, 2019 9:13 PM
Btw have you seen the series creator, Pocchi, at all? She actually has a virtual youtuber channel, where she covers songs and in addition she also has made a few R doujinshi. Pretty impressive

I need to remember to do that!

A true advocate of gender equality

hai hai,Kazuma des

Her aesthetic and smugness are just too damn pleasing though, also her pool costume (♡°▽°♡)

I legitimately felt bad she didn't get any attention wearing that, I'm like, are y'all blind?

Re: mother-son incest. I saved some newspaper articles I found on this subject a while back.

From the Dallas Morning News, February 25, 1991

"The husband is married to his work. The wife is married to her son. That's the problem," says Koji Suzuki, a psychiatrist who 30 years ago started Japan's first family-therapy practice.

It is almost proverbial in Japan that a man's closest relationship is with his mother, not his wife.

One of the more bizarre outcomes was portrayed earlier this year in a book called Father Can't Come Home Anymore! The author, psychiatrist Toru Sekiya, runs a Tokyo clinic and night shelter for "salary men' who are terrified of returning to a home where they feel unwelcome.

Japanese police have handled several cases in which mothers have had sex with their sons, sometimes to take pressure off them during exam time, says Jim McRae, an American therapist who has worked here for eight years. When the father claimed his conjugal rights, the son grew violent. In at least one case, he beat both parents to death with a baseball bat.

The Go Nagai anime Delinquent in Drag (1989) portrays a situation of Oedipal competition, where the father leaves work early in one scene in order to interfere with his sukeban wife's attempts to seduce their son lol

From the Colorado Springs Gazette, on September 9, 1995, covering the visit of Japanese social workers to observe American practices:

Another problem, according to the social workers: incest. But rather than the typical American scenario, in which a father has a sexual relationship with a daughter, the Japanese version of incest can revolve around the mother-son relationship, containing elements of "sexual harassment," a lack of boundaries or a lack of privacy, rather than blatant incest, Nakamura said.

Example: The Japanese mother who hovers over her 18-year-old son while he bathes and who insists on giving him a towel, much to his discomfort.

"It's very hush-hush, hidden," Hennessy said, speaking on behalf of a number of social workers.

[emphasis mine]

So if anything, Do You Like Your Mom's naked strategy meetings seem to be drawing on a Japanese tradition of sekuhara by MILFs

On a similar subject, a perception of control by Japanese women:

From "The Changing Face of Japan", New York Times, March 27, 1983.
[quote]
...the typical Japanese household is a rather thinly disguised matriarchy. In the majority of Japanese families, the husband turns over control of his salary to his wife, who then doles out to him a daily allowance- usually a rather modest one-for cigarettes, drinks, and sundries. And in most Japanese homes, it is the wife who decides such matters as where the family will live, what car it will buy and what schools the children will attend. (In one 1979 survey, 41 percent of the men polled admitted they left the education and discipline of their children entirely to their wives.

The Moroboshi family from Urusei Yatsura (1978-1987) fits this description 100%

Historically, Japanese schoolchildren under school age have enjoyed the undivided, almost obsessive, attention of their mothers...But permissiveness as practiced by Japanese mothers is akin to jujitsu in that it turns the natural emotional responses of the child into devices for his control. Specifically, it fosters a sense of dependence on Mama and induces powerful feelings of guilt about ever disappointing her. And this has far-reaching consequences. Carried over into adult life, these deeply ingrained psychic patterns- a taste for dependence and a horror of failing to meet the expectations of others- become major tools for the maintenance of social discipline in Japan.

I'm assuming that's the girl that's your avatar?

Yes, one of my favorite ojousamas, and Fate's joke character.
Luvia was in the last episode of UBW, where she was comic relief

Someone told me it was Fate but solving mysterys which sounds neat.

I like it, probably because I'm a Fate junkie and it expands the universe. It's grown-up, hard-on for Iskander Waver solving magical mysteries, so it's not stuff you'll really be able to guess "how" as much as "who."
Have you thought about watching Garden of Sinners / Kara no Kyoukai btw? I think you'd like the delinquent heroine, she wears combat boots and a leather jacket over a kimono

Carnival Phantasm sometimes for the lols

if you can, I would put it off until after you've seen Lost Butterfly just since it referenced some things from Heaven's Feel.
glassknuckles Sep 12, 2019 9:10 PM

It almost feels like a discount konosuba, not to compare it to that as it has its own charm and is very entertaining in it's own parody sort of way.

ha, yeah. Have you ever seen the Goldbergs? It reminds me a little of that show, the way most of the conflict comes from the 'smothering,' but with that special ecchi touch that can come from Japan.
Its definitely a love letter to moms, both good and bad, since I feel the feelings of even bad moms are treated by the anime as more important than those of the children.

I don't understand how the ratings on MAL for this show are so low, people seem to be really triggered by this show for some reason lol. Clearly they don't share our acquired taste, such a pity.

I guess some people think this is incest pandering or something, like siscon / brocon...except it really isn't. Though in 1980s Japan there was a panic about mothers sexually harassing their sons or having sex with them...

I can understand the guy's discomfort at seeing his mom in sexy costumes, but I have to say as a feminist, shouldn't moms be allowed to be sexy and wear what they want? ;)

I like her aesthetic with her blue hair and her smug faces when she was evil were amazing.

Same, Medhimama is my favorite purely on looks. Her personality was so awful though- I was willing to put up with it until that one episode where she pimped out her own daughter. Even if it was under some evil influence, I'm like, 'nope, unforgivable' lol

Btw who is your favourite Dumbbells girl? I'm having a hard time between Tachibana-sensei and Zina, although Sayaka is pretty great looks wise (abs and tanned skin) and personality wise.

I think Tachibana sensei. I have a fetish for over-25 single Japanese women, which puts her right in my strike zone. Zina is probably my next favorite, I guess because I just like how she looks.

I've decided that I'll watch Lord El-Melloi sometime because the characters and setting sound cool, I didn't pay any attention to it when the first season aired but it looks pretty neat.

I'm finally satisfied to see Luvia in a serious, non-joke Fate anime. It's not the storyline I was expecting, but I've finally seen her true magus face, and I can't really be happier for now :D

glassknuckles Sep 12, 2019 2:11 AM
