the lack of token cat-girls in modern anime is unacceptable

10 - This captures that sensation of stepping into sunlight from the shade. 9 - Don't ever come to my house because I will grab the DVD, force you to sit through the entire first season, then discuss its artistic merits for hours afterwards. 8 - Earned its cult classic status but falters on landing. Memorable despite a few hiccups that bar it from a higher score. 7 - A high-end popcorn flick. Enjoyable, but it's got a few screws lose. 6 - Rainy day recommendation. Not issue-ridden enough for me to give it a 5 but didn't impress me enough to get a 7. 5 - Grand highs offset by disappointing lows. Has one foot over the forgetability threshold. 4 - Not distinguishing itself from the crowd. 3 - So mediocre it's bad. 2 or lower - I typically can't get past the first episode.
No score either means I saw it 10 years ago or idk what to say.
I don't list anything I dropped before episode 3.
[ hell yay ]
- experimental art style or direction
- subtle worldbuilding/atmosphere
- animation that stays on-model unless intentionally betrayed
- theatrics/camp
- at least one bitchy blonde or meganekko in the cast (for science...)
[ no way ]
- episodic shows without a central aim
- characters with no nuance beyond their archetype
- show feels too easily interchangeable with other shows in its genre
- female characters with moeblob designs if their male counterparts are drawn more realistically
- nosebleeds, "accidental" titty grabs, *GIANT* sweat drops indicating a character is *EMBARRASSED*, etc.
