Thanks for the feedback! It's great to see someone agrees with me. Why didn't they just let them be together as an incest couple fuu ;-;

Shoujo and Josei titles are aimed at girls. As well as yaoi and some yuri. Thing with yuri is most of the "mainstream" yuri is actually aimed at guys. Stuff like Strawberry Panic, Saki, Strike Witches, etc. Things with lots of service and boobs in which also has lots of lesbians. They arent realistic lesbians, they are the kind of male fantasy lesbian. There are some great yuri titles though, like Aoi Hana and Maria-sama. Shoujo is generally aimed at little girls or like middle school age girls. Josei is aimed at women. If you see "josei" as a genre I think its a good bet that you will like it though from what I have been able to learn about you from our conversation.

Which Kiss x Sis did you watch? The TV or the OVA? I actually like Kiss x Sis, but the OVA version. Which is lewder but far superior to the tv one. I am kind of surprised I like it given my general disgust with incest in Japanese media however I cant help but be amused by it.

I wouldnt watch DxD either. I have a fascination with service anime and generally find them amusing, plus I enjoy watching awful shows I can skewer in a review. Dont watch it, you will hate it. If you just want to try something I consider to be a "good" service show, watch something like Nogizaki Haruka Himitsu, Saki, Strike Witches, B Gata H Kei, or To Love Ru.

Binbougami too, but it isnt as lewd as some of those others. Actually I recommend that one and B Gata the most as I both thought they were hilarious shows.

There certainly is not enough "warm and fuzzy" anime titles out there. Romance or not most revolve around action or deviancy with a helping of service. I have long ago come to the realization that 1) anime is mostly made for guys 2) anime is made for Japanese sensibilities 3) many modern titles are made for otaku. Since I am neither of these things you would think I would really get nothing out of the genre. However I can seperate myself from alot of this stuff that might normally make my female being burst into flames. I find alot of those service anime to be humorous. There is a right way and wrong way to do service. And its a tough line to really define either. You just know good service when you see it. And it has nothing to do with the amount of it there is or the body parts being exposed. Take something like Nisemonogatari. The service in that is nothing over the top, except perhaps the toothbrushing scene, but its terrible because it pretends like its trying to be smart. The crotch face plants, the boob shots, these are somehow better and more meaningful than anything else thats ever been seen before. Its tits and ass. Its titillation and nothing else so trying to pretend its something else its like peeing on my head and tell me its raining. Then you got something like High School DxD which is total trash, total service, and total perversion. And it knows it. And you know what? Its kind of funny too. So even though Nise, in pretty much every technical aspect, from art, animation, style, and presentation is enormously superior to DxD, the later I thought was a better show, as hard as that is to believe.

As far as whats animated, I dont really get it either. However the manga industry is enormously more profitable than the anime one. And very often anime is used to promote the manga sales. They basically are paid commercials from the manga publishers. So instead studios just picking the best stories to put on air its about selling manga, or putting stuff out there than otaku will buy the BDs and merchandise for. And I get it, the industry is looking to make money which makes sense. But I think they hurt their broad base appeal and potential to make even more money buy making things that more ordinary people can relate to. Until that happens, anime will also been a fringe genre and/or considered something for kids.

I remember that being shocking to me when the people who you thought were the main cast were all slaughtered in the first episode. I really liked Yomi alot and it saddened me to see how she ended up. I liked her better than Kagura, but eventually I found her interesting too. Been meaning to read the manga. Ive been wondering why they never made an anime based on it though. It seems they pulled the story for zero out of flashbacks from the manga but that they didnt actually animated any of the surrounding story. I guess it didnt do that well in the ratings or sell. It disgusts me what it takes to actually sell in Japan. I find myself more and more put off and repulsed by the otaku subculture.

Anything called a villa sounds nice. :P Our place was more of a shack lol. The kind of house you would typically find near the beach. We didnt go there to hang out in the house we went for the beach or for the sights.

Saw you finished Ga Rei Zero. Did you like it?

Its kind of dangerous to be in Spain now I would think with all the upheaval and unemployment. I am glad I dont own any property down there. What part of Spain though? We always went near Valencia.

I feel France has a really good PR firm. Its France so it must be all romantic and stylish. I dont have anything against the French but I worked as a barista one summer at this place that had alot of tourists visisting, many of them older harry disgusting French guys who constantly hit on me. And expected me to swoon over them because, well they are French! Yuck they were so gross.
Skadi Feb 5, 2013 6:05 PM
We used to take holiday in Spain all the time, my parents had a place down there so I picked up some Spanish from just being around it. It belongs to my sister now so I dont go like we used to. I am not really sure why I picked up German, same kind of deal we went skiing in Austria all the time and I have been doing some real estate speculating there but I have been fluent for as long as I can remember. I used to watch German TV and read some magazines. There are alot of similarities with Swedish too. I dont actually "know" Norwegian but you can speak to someone in Swedish and they in theirs and basically understand what they are saying.

I like England though, I was there for the Olympics, yeah it was crazy but I love London. Though I dont want to live there. The only place I dont like to go is France. I think its overrated. Paris is overrated. I'll take Prague, Vienna over Paris any day.

Though just be careful with your expectations, the grass isnt always greener. Japan is not like it is in anime and the movies. Not trying to sound discouraging but your young and often at your age anywhere but "home" always seems like a much better and more interesting place. And it usually doesnt work out that way.
Skadi Feb 5, 2013 4:31 PM
I have a bit of a knack for languages too, I also speak German fluently and have atleast basic conversational understanding of Norwegian (which is very similar to Swedish), Finnish, Russian and a little Spanish. I'd like to learn Japanese but I dont really have the motivation to spend the time necessary. What I know is from the years I have spent listening to it being spoken in films, which is probably alot more than I think. But I certainly couldnt carry a conversation in it. Though I likely would have an idea of what someone might be saying to me. Though if I had a choice of one or the other I wish I could read it above all. So many things I would love to read in Japanese.

I am happy with where I live and wont ever leave but I have been to Japan a few times. It was quite lovely. I have some friends who ended up going over there to teach english. They had a great time over there, I think one of them even returned with a wife. lol

Ga Rei Zero is good stuff. I wish they would make an anime for the original Ga Rei manga.

Oh and I have found dont be too pushy on the whole sub/dub debate with your friends. Your likely not going to change anyones mind and will probably only upset them. I have found people get really offended if people dont watch their animu the same way as they do. I think the older you get and the more titles you see you will slowly find yourself moving away from dubs. For one, there are only limited dubs and far more subs but also I think after you have gotten used to reading the subtitles and listening to it in Japanese your less likely to go back to dubs. I only care how I watch them anyway, so unless your watching it with me thats the only time I am likely to be pushy about what language we watch it in.

I get told that about my english alot. I did go to university in the United States so that explains alot and I have studied English since the sixth grade. I read/write alot in English which probably has helped the most in developing it and my vocabulary. And I chatted/played games alot with people speaking in English. You do that for 10-15 years yoru going to be pretty good eventually. :P

I never have been able to convince people on the most egregious thing dubs do to any film. They basically redirect one of the most important parts of the film. So here you have some Americans who had nothing to do at all with the production of the original show rewriting the script and reacting it without any input from the original director. Some people seem to think well its animation so all the work was put into that. I have watched some comparisions with the Japanese version and the dubbed version and you can take a completly different thing out of the same scene and it could end up with almost a totally different meaning. I noticed this with Full Metal Panic. Oh and this is where my hatred of Hillary Haag comes from, who plays Tessa Testarossa. She talks like she is screaching and has a voice akin to nails dragging on a chalkboard. I am sure she is a really nice woman and all but I am just not a fan at all of her "acting".

Your comments on Ayres though is exactly what I mean and not just with him. There is always this one important character who is voiced with a completely inappropriate actor that takes away from either the seriousness of the scene or whatever. Also many of the really bad actors they just dont sound... um natural? When they are talking. They sound like they are "trying" to talk "cute" or talk like a little kid or something. Instead of talking normally. Ofcourse you are acting but when it sounds like your acting then your just not a very good actor if you know what I mean.

On K-ON, well if you were expecting grand story then I can see why you were disappointed. Maybe you shouldnt watch Aria in that case. Because like K-ON its not really about anything. But I really love the cast from K-ON and I thought it was just a brilliant fun lighthearted comedy. Something totally harmless that made me feel good inside after every episode. And I was really sad to see it end. Also one of the few shows I have rewatched more than 5 or 6 times.

I never saw school days either, I know all about it though, how it all turns out and frankly it doesnt make me feel like watching it. I probably will get to it someday just so I can actually talk about it intelligently when people bring it up but friends of mine have told me that its really disturbing and not really worth watching it.
Skadi Feb 3, 2013 9:28 AM
I probably should state thats my own personal opinion and if you like them then knock yourself out. :P I only care how I watch them. I seem to have gotten in trouble in the past with my dislike for anime dubs in particular.
Skadi Feb 3, 2013 6:35 AM
Well I dont understand how anyone could not like K-ON. They are so completely harmless and beautifully made. The ugly side of it is the ridiculous fans and some of their behavior and then some of the haters and trolls on the other side. I managed to stay away from all that and was able to enjoy it. Unlike with something like Madoka whom the fanboys pretty much ruined any change of me enjoying it.

I dont know who Brittney Kabowski is nor do I care if shes a dub "actress". I dont listen to dubs anymore. All dubs are terrible. Yes I know "all" are not terrible but most of them actually are with a few that are either less terrible or tolerable. Outside the Ghibli movies which were dubbed by Disney, who used actual actors, and not the phone sex rejects and no talent hacks Funimation and others who have come and gone since. I am really particular about how I watch my movies, anime, etc. Anime is Japanese and I think should be watched in the language it was originally made in. Just like if I watch an American movie I have no interest in seeing it dubbed in Swedish.

Though I own Shuffle on DVD and despite all I just said I do always atleast "listen" to the dub to get some laughs. However the Japanese track is so terrible that the english dub does not seem that bad and may actually be better. I cant say that about any other show I have watch. And its not like all the english actors are terrible either what I have found is that there are usually 2 or 3 that are not really that bad at all, one of them us usually named Luci Christian, but then there is always this one sore thumb sticking out in a prominate roll that is absolutely terrible want makes it completely unwatchable. Like having to listen to Greg Ayres or that fingernails on chalkboard scratching Hillary Haag. Ok enough of that, I could go on for 5000 words about how much I hatch their acting. :P

Code Geass.. one of my love/hate titles. I really loved it and I also really loved to hate it. Pretty much all my most hated anime characters come from that show. I hated Suzaku so much I wanted to throw things at my TV whenever he appeared.
