What can I say? 86 can be effectively described in two words: Unnatural Drama.
From the very first season of this series I have always pondered and wondered the basis to the logical correlation of the events in this series. Because I cannot see how in the military and political context of 86 can there be a child emperor taking the very role of an auxiliary commander, a competent military complex that lose the track of their very childish emperor for the sake of drama, and I cannot stop yawning and yawning every single time the soldiers are overly dramatic to the extent that doesn't make
...
sense. Of course this ailments are being dragged since S1, specifically about a damsel in charge that gets emotional with the voices of her own platoon.
I don't want to even get to the core of the story about the so called peace between races. It gets really ridiculous when you learn the motives about why the soldiers from the 86 keep fighting while being an oppressed race. I can't cope with the illogical and unreasonable tropes from this anime. Is an insult to the collection of human war history and politics. This is clearly a story for teenagers that doesn't know how the world works.
Don't waste your time with this, unless you are here only for good animation therapy. I must admit that the budget must have been hefty because the animation is really good, and you will love to see the fighting, the action, bullets, explosions, killer robots, etc.
You may wonder why this is so overhyped. Well, what can you expect from viewers that confuse "complex narratives" with cheap tropes coming from well known formulas to captivate the audience. Come on, "empathizing with cheap tropes" can be a hell of a drug for some authors, then you think twice about what they just did with their story, and you start to see huge cracks in the plot, in the current chain of events, and in the decision making of the characters.
At this level of production, it is so disappointing to see so much potential being wasted.

Art is definitely not for everyone. Now sum to that a slice of life story of a student trying to apply an admission to an art degree in a distinguished college. Ok, let's paraphrase that. What could happen if we broadcast a plain story into the minds of the existing demand population ravenous for funny stuffs and doped action scenes. Don't get me wrong. Just look everywhere be it videogames, anime, manga, novels, etc. Today, do you think a plain story around a subjective topic as art can compete with those??
Of course not. And that is why this is not for everyone. But look,
...
be grateful that there are still critics like me that judge a book by its content. You will be missing any fantastic and out of the world tropes in this anime. You will be getting a new refreshing story about a particular student with a particular life and a particular family. You will be watching a normal nothing out of context story that has something to do with students in art school. What there's for you is the drama. Imagine a group of students in the final year with family issues, money issues, purpose issues, and the sort of things that will commonly trouble the minds of most people during that period of life. The difference here is, we are talking about art school, and the story is told by the MC point of view. So, expect new things to learn and to discover with this refreshing story.
Now for my grade: actually 8/10 is pretty generous. But that's enough since it can be arguably overusing the need to do insights scenes and there's nothing sloppy here, be it the animation, the story or the art. Is good quality stuff above average not for everyone tastes.

Why isn't this anime called Clichézoku Oujo??
First above all, animation execution. Taking the story aside, the art, it will really bewitch you. The animation is fantastic, and you will enjoy it. Now is not that it is a masterful work of art, is that it is a style that can be considered considerably above the level of most common and popular anime out there. Sum to that the music and you will definitely feel like you are watching a movie.
But, the story is not flawless. Perhaps is a refreshing story and for that you can give it a try, after all is not always
...
that we get a proper anime story about pirates and seafarers from the early modern-age of human civilization. Honestly, I began watching it because I had curiosity of how they were wrapping up some nice common folklore and myths from that period too (I won't spoil anything, sorry). And, as a veteran, is hard for me to be amused solely by a wonderful animated execution. So, in a nutshell, is not bad, but the story telling is so generic that I cannot be intrigued by it anymore. I am just kind of going with the flow just to watch a good animated story, I am true to myself, watching a good animation is truly satisfying. Because that's pretty much what is highlighted from Kaizoku Oujo. Is beautifully animated. But the story is super cliché filled with cliché characters and doped with cliché moments.
Frankly I will not complain about the animation, but about the story and the main script, that's another different matter. If you have nothing else to watch, you can watch this.

I'm pretty sure this anime is overrated because the story is within the mecha narrative (a favorite of many), it is well animated, has good sound effects, good soundtracks, good artwork, and the rest is the hype. Now I got to say I am a fan of "mecha" narratives. But my appreciation and standards to stories are quite high. Whenever I see plot holes, inconsistencies, forced twists, and unreasonable plot devices, at this levels of entertainment production I cannot help but feel disappointed. I do not mind the Light Novel, but for that reason, I respect that the studios could make something for that by
...
figuring some changes to patch those gaps already inside the original source. But sometimes, they don't.
Since the very beginning, this anime had huge flaws. Forced emotions, inconsistent outcomes, and what I call "plot armor amnesia" (when things that should have been said, are suddenly forgotten). Bad writing? Yes. Sum to that something that really pisses me off. It looks like nowadays is pretty common for authors to find the most strangest love recipes executed in the strangest ways they can possibly imagine for the sake of making up "drama". I generally like political/military plots, but that kind of romance twists seems too jarring for this kind of context.
But is not surprising, because there is a massive context in 86. However, it means that the framework to that context lacks direction. It was certainly mediocre in its execution, leaving behind gaps here and there and forcing the story to focus on something more easy to handle, a bunch of mecha fighters and a dame in charge, and it got milked for all it's worth for the drama.

Disclaimer, this is not an idol anime!
However, this anime have a high degree of musical elements because the MC of the story is about an artificial intelligence that is programmed to be a songstress and is called Vivy. The story is as good as many others within the sci-fi "robots overtakes humans" narrative, and the animated execution was superb. Nevertheless, is the right combination of parts and elements of anime that makes a great anime. And Vivy's Fluorite Song makes an outstanding performance in that regard.
When I began watching Vivy's Fluorite Song I particularly wanted to experience at most the ambience of the future.
...
Check. In much the same way I expected a high degree of musical performance due to the musical implications of the story. Double check. The VAs did an amazing job at being singers and I am convinced they had lots of fun doing that. Nevertheless, I caught an interesting detail inside the soundtracks of this story. While the notes and the rhythm of each soundtrack harmonizes with the scenes inside this story, the actual framework shares an intentional or unintentional relationship with the story. The music inside this anime is also telling the story. The melodies in this anime cleverly combine and harmonize a combination of sounds between futuristic sounds and classic instruments, gauging the direct or indirect relationship between robots (futuristic sounds) and humans (classic instruments). That combination of music, storytelling, and character only made me realize that this story is powerful.
The question is, what gives the story of Vivy’s Fluorite Song its power? Maybe is the combination of the well animated sequences, the very well-defined textures in every single frame, the amazing character development, or the harmony between the music and the scene giving an additional emotional color to the melody. It could also be the diversification of plot devices, the futuristic elements of the story and the sense of expectations we experience as a viewer.
While these are the pieces that make up great anime, there is another thing that answers the question more directly, and that is the association between the melody and the experience it is attached to.
Music can communicate a ton of information to the listener rapidly, especially when it is connected to the story using things like leitmotif and this is where I believe music really finds its greatest resonance and strength. A leitmotif is a melodic passage or phrase that is associated with a character, situation, or element. Many of the songs in this anime are attached to an event or a scene in the life of our main character, where that song is speaking about something a character is going through, or the sound perfectly fit the mood of the story. While you are listening to the songs, you cannot help but build a deeper appreciation and connection to it due to the weight of the moments it accompanies. This connection is even deeper as it has an air of familiarity already present related to the character or the climatic event.
Each one of the different story arcs in this anime has a different emotional tone cast on to it. While one episode is tinged with action and mystery, other with sadness, suffering, regrets and another with anger, is not that these episodes have one single emotion to convey. And is a feeling that can be hardly put into words, and you cannot help but appreciate it.
For something that is clearly a science fiction production, I never expected a sci-fi story to exploit the power of music. The songs in this anime are a perfect summarization of the emotions boiled down inside the story in melodic form. And yet within those songs, they still hold the power to convey the emotions and the growth from the happy and tragic stories that we experience in Vivy's Fluorite Song.
And for all these reasons, Vivy’s Fluorite Song is a powerful anime, and will be remembered as one of the best in my opinion.
Overall score: 10/10.

Let me get straight to the point before my review. Take this as a personal disclosure, with a grain of salt. I do not encourage anyone to get this anime as a message to get out of the norm and try to court a "highschooler" (or a minor depending on your laws). The fictional characters inside this anime are good people, but this kind of relationship does happen in real life. And it could end good, but also, it could end bad or really bad. Is outside the norm and heavily criticized by our current unwritten rules of our living society. So, is an atypical
...
love story dear reader. Please, watch this anime with proper discretion and with a clear open mind. Don't judge it, because it could happen to your daughters, to your sons, to your brothers, to your sisters, to any friend or someone close to you, you never know. I know I'm speaking as if I have witnessed something like this before, and you are right, this happened to the sister of my best friend. That being said, take this anime as something new to learn about strange relationships that you may never know and make your own conclusions.
Continuing...
Look dear reader, there are stories that can have issues for the sole fact that it goes against some morals and the unwritten rules of society. And it can end up being a risk to the studio or the company that produces it, or morals of society. Now, those same rules are pushed to the limit because anything goes in love, and more so in the entertainment biz. Koikimo is shocking for the same reason, because the story can uppercut fist your internal moral kidney right from the start. It tells the story of the relationship's progress between a salaried adult and a young high school student. (I already said my opinion on how shocking this is in the paragraph above). Regarding the execution of this anime, apart from the story being a whole new perspective, the characters are perfectly structured with the due maturity and the psychological complexity according to the ages presented, adulthood and youth. Superb characterization of the very first rule they have to follow, telling apart the age difference. Now, if you ask my personal opinion, it is enough for me to see the effort they gave to tell a scandalous story but that they came to take into account all the key points within the context. As we already know, according to the relationship between these two characters, an adult and a young student, one can imagine that there will be resistance, reluctant reactions, social criticism, criticism within each personal circle, and the handling of all this issues while keeping the relationship with the utmost discretion. And if we assume that the relationship is going well, other obstacles may appear materializing in internal doubts that can diminish love due to the difference in ages, other love interests, and above all, the reaction of the relatives themselves. The truth is, the story covers that completeness in the context and is perfect, something that is rare and I praise their execution (even the VAs, they did an amazing job). Many times I find the authors, especially in rom-com, having difficulties to create a perfect balance between the positive and negative elements inside the drama of the story in question without leaving gaps or plot holes. This anime should be the clear example of achieving that perfect balance, making not only the story scandalous, but also accurate and perfectly scandalous.
For everything else, the art and music is exceptional, performing well and remaining consistent with the mood of the scene. I must highlight this personal thought, it was hard for me to skip the openings and endings because they were a banger.
The comedy from my personal perspective does not achieve the diversity that I expected. Sometimes it feels repetitive. I feel like they had to be a bit more creative to make it diversified and let it breathe within the episodes. For that simple reason I do not give it a 10.
As I said before, I had the opportunity to witness the progress of a relationship like this one pretty close. You may think that it will affect my objective opinion, but no. It just improves my opinion about this anime that is actually accurate and remarkable, (regardless of its scandalous implications because that's subjective to the viewers). That's why so many people are not objectively qualifying this anime. So much outrage is undervaluing the quality of this anime. But, makes sense since that is what a morally questionable story will do and I can not do anything about it. I can only say that reality does not care about your morals or your views. Stories can be really surprising, and this kind of stories happen in real life more often than you may know. What you may call a moral issue, is someone romance. What you may call disgusting, is someone else purpose and goal in life. Situations are relative to the people. Is a mistake to judge without knowing the contents. That being said, please watch with discretion, enjoy, analyze and make your own conclusions.

THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS
This anime had so much potential but it failed miserably.
Frankly speaking, it had so much potential because they were making a story out of one of the most difficult and delicate topics of humankind which is suicide, just to wonderfully waste it at the end.
Now this anime is obviously praised for the deep meanings and the metaphors, and symbolisms, and anything around those lines but it was more for the artistic way to advertise the reasons you are worth not to commit suicide. Honestly no one would care about it, but this was a masterful exception since the psychological trait of the
...
main topic in question is the most delicate one in human history. I have to admit that I was enjoying the level of detail into the character emotions, inner conflicts and behaviors. BUT...
The climax of the story brings an ass pulled twist in which a third party is actually killing the girls... That's murder, that's not suicide anymore. ("Think Cloverworks"). With all the cynical episodes with dreams and the intended metaphoric battles about the psychological problems of this girls that committed suicide, begging to be saved, now they are being killed because of a third party... Sure thing the story came to a point were they didn't know how to follow the main storyline. Does this studio was lacking direction? Your guess.
I would factor in the lack of the storyteller intention. I mean who doesn't watch a story and begin to imagine second or third alternate endings, different storylines or continuations. Factoring that in, the outcome of this anime fails to deliver anything but confusion... (Ask any seasoned viewer out there). What I'm trying to tell is that your train of thought sure will fall in between the lines of, "what the **** is this ending??" That's why, at the moment of writing, they want to reivindicate this story with an OVA in a couple weeks... Shame, shame, shame.

Definitely one of the 2021 Winter highlighted anime, most commonly known as "I can't believe this is not hentai".
A boy gets uninhibitedly evil towards his targets of revenge, and he pretty much lets himself go loose towards his sexual desires too. Well I can't say there's enough to say since the story is pretty much that. There's not any element of surprise, you certainly know what's going to happen next following that simple repetitive logic. Soooo..., this can be boringly predictable. But I'm still impressed to the details in the animation (if you know what I mean), and the subtleties they kept hidden to let
...
this be broadcasted. (Also, this anime is served in two options, the cultured and the uncultured version). At least the story is consistent with keeping the MC as a big piece of shit and making his revenges without any remorse. I think I would call this an ecchi breaking bad. That's exactly what this anime is about. Don't concern too much on the story, it has enough amount of revenge, sex and cringe every single episode. Is not like there is going to be a decent storyline, since most episodes are full of loud scenes.

I think a decent amount of this anime is a type of comedy that was only popular back in the era of Leslie Nielsen: gag characters and high degree of silliness.
And with that I think I pretty much described what you are going to find here: a high degree of silliness within a repertory of gag characters. I know is hard to describe comedy, or characterize it. Some people laugh at different kind of humorous situations. The only thing I can tell you that I am 100% sure is that this anime is so silly, that it could be fun to watch. The story
...
here is kind of a cliché thing, with an amazing world full of adventure and the hero fighting the evil to save the world here and there. Is cliché in my opinion. But, every single episode does not get serious for once, every single time you think shit is going to be serious, but no. This anime will not stop being silly for once, it kind of resembles Monthy Python in that sense. Personally I describe this anime a funny subjective reality.
Silly animated comedies like this one are very rare.
Veredict: 8/10.

If something has called me to rate this anime with a perfect rating, is its flawless execution.
I do not qualify the story as such, because for that I would have to weigh the light novel, which in my opinion is an excellent story as well as many others.
What remains is to rate the animated execution, and the only thing I can say is that the gamble to create a single exclusive studio for this anime paid off. It is already known that the story has some parts that are a bit controversial, but I do not see any problem with that. When you understand that
...
there is a shameless adult inside a child's body, you begin to understand the reason for Rudeus' uninhibited intention towards other characters. I have also heard some parts that do not fit with the LN, but I do not see any problem with that too, especially when the result is much better than what was written. Something that I love is the effort to draw the anime, you hardly see any CGI. For the rest, the animated performance represents very well the adventurous spirit of this story, especially with the music that is adapted according to the stages and the mood of the story.
This is one of those isekais where the characters have a humanly realistic touch. Maybe that's why this anime is a bit controversial because we are used to seeing other isekais where characters with fantastic behaviors reign more than characters with realistic behaviors. Here the characters abound in realistic behaviors and with a high degree of independence and self-will in their actions. Big plus.
I love the openings of this anime, very original and creative. If there is no other, then it is the first anime with that style of opening. They even got creative and took the effort to adapt the other languages that are represented in this anime. (That's Star Trek move here).
I hope we are watching the birth of a new masterpiece.
In short, please enjoy this.
