Can't remember feeling anything special about the rivalry, but I don't think I personally disliked it at all. Then again, I don't think I'm the type of person to get affected by unoriginality or cliches all that much, but I can certainly see where you're coming from. I think I liked the whole Kumi thing because she and Ippo were just so innocent and pure about it, which I think fit Ippo's character perfectly. And it seems I'm a fan of romances with innocent / pure characters considering how much I enjoyed the one in ef - memories and Kimi ni Todoke. But thanks for reminding me that the romance and Miyata rivalry stuff's mostly only delegated to the first half -- it's a point I can mention in my future recommendations.
Oh, so the visuals / animation got better as the show went along? Huh, can't remember, but I'll take your word for it. I certainly do remember a jump in quality with the specials at the end at least, Champion Road and the other thing. And omg, remember the first time Ippo pulled off that Dempsey Roll out of nowhere? Total exhilaration.
>I got really engrossed and absorbed into the fights. I was able to sympathize the genuine love the boxers had for their fights.
>My testosterone levels soared to a level of over 9000 watching dem boxing matches.
Haha, excellent! Yup, that's Hajime no Ippo's specialties right there, ones that I tried my darndest to portray (but concisely, and without too much hype) in the review.
Certainly has, and so glad that you ended up enjoying it. I honestly loved it from beginning to end, so I personally didn't think the show got better as it went along.. merely the same level of awesome the entire time, lol. But thanks so much for letting me know, I'll let a few others that're also trying Ippo know that as well if they lose motivation. Would you happen to know approximately when it started to get better for you?
>Hajime no Ippo is a good show to keep me motivated to work out.
Something a friend said as well. Other than the occasional treadmill, I find working out a waste of time, but hey, more power to ya.
My ratings are probably a bit... strict, but I think that it is better this way. It gives more weight to the high scores and makes it much easier to find hidden qualities in the titles I enjoy. Well, flaws too.
