LOL yea it's kinda weird watching with someone, since we're all going at different paces. I live in Massachusetts, and they have Ipad for student, so we could use them for stuff, especially reading manga :)

Something I think is important to keep in mind about series that have both manga and anime is that if the manga came first, sometimes the anime won't cover the whole story, or it'll get caught up and have to add in a bunch of filler. Sometimes the adaptions just aren't as good, too. There's a lot of good manga series that have never been adapted as anime as well, so that's a good thing to keep in mind.

Regarding Zero no Tsukaima and Shakugan no Shana, both of them are based on light novel series rather than manga; the manga versions of each actually came after the anime. (Actually the Shana manga started a couple of months before the anime but ran for years afterward; usually in a case like that the manga starts a little earlier to help promote the anime before it starts.)

If you're finding series are getting too repetative or harder to enjoy, you should try watching or reading things you wouldn't normally give a shot. Be more picky about genres, directors, authors. I normally stay away from horror stuff because I'm a big ol' scaredy cat, but I've started reading more horror manga lately and I find that, as long as I'm careful about the series I pick, I actually enjoy it a lot!

I forgot to mention before, while both the anime and manga of Lovely Complex are good I did like the manga better. And while I haven't seen the Whistle! anime, I know it stops partway through the manga (it probably caught up, I guess) and leaves out the Korea match, which was my favourite part. They're the kind of series that are worth enjoying twice, though, so maybe you'd be interested in checking out one media when you're done with the other, haha.

I'm not watching Area no Kishi but I do plan on starting it at some point -- I can get kind of impatient, so I want to wait until it gets near the end so I don't get caught up and then have to wait a week between episodes.

And I don't mind! Conversations are fun. Don't worry if I don't reply right away, I probably just wandered away from the computer for a bit. :)

Well for romance series I like ones that aren't 100% focused on the romance angle, so I would recommend Lovely Complex (Love Com) because it's incredibly funny and the characters are all really likeable. For all time favourites, I definitely have a soft spot for sports series, so I'd recommend Whistle! which is a fun soccer series with a lot of likeable characters and good storylines.
