Yeah, it was a long, big struggle for me with psychological & anxiety issues that kept me away from anime-related & internet forums since late 2021........the last 1 year or so has been like the toughest time of my life, if I'm being honest. It hard to describe in words how serious my condition was at times over the whole last year. But currently I'm a lot recovered from all that via a lengthy rigorous process of psychiatric medicational treatment, though still not 100% recovered yet.

IDK for sure whether I'd ever come back to stuff like watching anime or being super-active in internet forums ever again....though I just felt like logging in here sporadically & take a look after an year-long break, since over the last 1-2 months I feel a lot more recovered compared to how my condition was before that.

How have you been? Hope you've being doing well in the meantime, hopefully much better than me. :)

Hey, so how have you been? Hope things are going alright in your place, amidst this rapid worldwide outbreak of the Corona pandemic. And from what I hear, Europe is overall the worst affected amongst all other continents. Speaking for myself, the scenario is pretty bad in our country as of now, the number of affected people are increasing by leaps and bounds with each passing day, the govt. has even decided to even call a curfew to prevent public gathering/congregation as a preventive measure to counter all this. Hope you have been doing well.

Yeah, seems like so. Well I'll admit that the arc was quite slow paced at first, which is why I said before that it was slow burn...but I thought that it really did pick up when needed. The whole confrontation with Orochimaru was the part that really blew me away....especially the parts where Tsunade saw her dead brother repeatedly within Naruto as he mastered Rasegan to finally defeat & incapacitate Kabuto after taking a helluva brutal beating, plus the moments was desperately protecting Naruto despite her body getting ripped to shreads by Orochimaru & then suddenly turned the tables via activating that secret jutsu to regenerate all her wounded organs to finally beating the crap out of Orochimaru with her bare hands in the end.....these were the moments that basically stunned me & even more so because of the strong buildup of emotion & tension they had behind him. Most importantly, how Tsunade PoV towards Naruto grew throughout the arc was the thing that was one of the most remarkable things amongst these to me, from viewing him as an useless hot-headed brat to someone in whom she dead brother's image which eventually led to her perspectives about being a Hokkage change remarkably; her characterization & development throughout the arc was really something that I loved seeing.

But I can understand why some people might not like this arc because of the slow pacing at first....and for you I guess because you don't like Naruto that much compared to several other characters from the show, this arc afterall was focusing more strongly on his training with Jiraya & stuff....plus none of your more favourite characters actually had that much of an important role here as well, so yeah, understandable. :) Bit yeah, I ended up enjoying this arc far more than I though I would at first. :)

IIRC from what I've heard, after this arc there is probably a short fillers arc or something like that, right?

Well, you told me that Tsunade arc was one of the weaker arcs of Naruto, and lol.....this actually turned to be the arc that made me raise the score of the series from 9 to 10. :P Episodes 93-96 were just sheer mindboggling stuff, especially the whole confrontion with Orochimare. The whole battle royale there had such incredible executed fights with such amazing buildup, tension & emotional moments that I was basically hooked to the screen being really deep into the episodes while watching it. Tsunade's character just ended up growing on me so fast throughout those episodes that I myself was left surprised by it lol, she is now one of my favourite Naruto characters already.

I see, the structuring seems to be kind of unique in Major since they focus more on the SoL aspects earlier on & save the hype & tension mostly for the ending climactic parts of the season like you said. I guess I'll only know when I see it, but it probably depends upon how the show does the transition from the SoL parts to the intense hype parts as for whether I'll like it or not....since I'm kinda fond of those type of shows that does the transition from the lighthearted comedy parts to the serious tense moments subtly enough so that it doesn't feel forced in any way.

Yeah, exactly. Curiously who were your favourite characters from Angel Beats? I personally found most of the characters likable but Kanade, Otanoshi & Nakamura were the ones I liked the most there.

And well....I also saw that you recently watched Barakamon and really liked it, actually I also plan on watching it very soon (probably gonna watch it next just after I finish the Tsunade Arc). I'm recently trying to give the romance & SoL genre more of a chance to see if I can gradually get over my indifference towards that genre & get used to it, since it's kinda narrow-minded to have a bias/indifference towards that genre, a main reason why I watched 5-Toubun recently. So how is Barakamon actually, do you think that there's a chance that I could like it?
345EdwardElric Feb 28, 2020 9:08 AM
Well if it's a SoL one then chances are a bit less that I'd like it, but I still would probably check it out to see whether it's my thing or not since it's about baseball, aspirt much more easier for me to get into compared to Volleyball which was a huge problem for me with Haikyuu! (since I just found that sport conceptually very lame, obviously that's not gonna be the case with baseball).

Yeah, I'm well aware of that, it's one of the major issues that Angel Beats! suffered from, it was originally meant to have a longer run but due to the issues it's story had to be fit within a much shorter span (almost half) which was obviously problematic....and as a result the earlier episodes ended up being quite rushed. If it got a 24 episode run, the story, setting & the characters could've been fleshed out so much better...it'd easily been a 10/10 anime for me in that case. I wasn't really that much into the show in the first 5 episodes or so, but episode 6 onwards I started liking it from where it got better & better to eventually end with a bang via that ending.

I see, I'm also kinda getting that feeling TBH, the arc kinda lacks the oomph of some of the previous arcs, it's quite a slow burn as I started before, but still I'm liking it more as I'm getting more into it.

Yeah I know that you don't like harem which is why I can understand why you won't watch it. But has got some really top-notch pure romance though, the dynamics of the MC with all the different girls are really nice & fleshed out really well, which is why I liked it despite not quite being into the romance/harem genre.

I see. I did really like Baccano, it's unique captivating setting & characters, though it's still not one of my biggest favourites & won't even come into my top 20.
345EdwardElric Feb 28, 2020 7:11 AM
Yeah, thankfully my issues finally seem to have gotten more or less resolved & my mother has also pretty much made a full recovery (though she's still on regular medication, which I a thing I've to still look after everyday to make sure that she takes all her medicines regularly on time) which is why I've been able to finally resume binge watching anime again after a hiatus of more than a month. The rough days seem to have finally passed thankfully.

I see. I also see that you're currently in the process of watching the Major franchise...and seems that you really like it. I have been also thinking about watching it at some point as well....so do you think that it's worth checking out? It's a sports shounen as I can see so maybe there could be a chance that I might like it, since Baseball is a sport that I'm actually pretty familiar with, but I'm honestly more into that type of shounen that focus more on the tension, intensity & hype aspects rather than shounen focusing on SoL & character drama, so maybe it depends upon what type of a sports shounen amongst those Major actually is as for whether I'd like it or not.

And yeah, Angel Beats! was quite a remarkable & unique experience indeed, so great to see that you really liked it. :) It may seem like an action-adventure packed gory anime at first sight, but gradually as we get more into the show, we can see that there are so many other important & different aspects of the show like the SoL moments where the characters converse their sad & traumatic experiences in real life (which are shown elaborately in detail via flashbacks), through some nice character interactions, which gradually makes it clear that the show actually does have much different nature indeed, being predominantly based on a sad storyline exploring the sad real-life experiences of a bunch of high-school teens who have died and yet to move onto the afterlife. The earlier episodes I'd say are actually rushed & a bit over-the-place, which might leave us a bit confused as for what's going on and what the actual narrative of the story is, but if we can get into the show then it gradually becomes a very emotional experience full of nice group dynamics & character interactions alongside the subtle exploration of the traumatic real-life experiences of the characters. And yeah, like what I exactly told you before when I recommended you the show (IIRC), the ending was an absolute tearjerker, it was full of sheer feels & emotion....one of the few things in anime to actually make me cry, I literally kinda lost my shit at that final ending moment because made me feel so much for Kanade & Otanoshi. I would've rated it a 10, but the main problem there was the earlier episodes being quite rushed & kind of cheesy, which is why my rating of it had to remain at a 9.

Anyways, yeah finally I've gotten back to Naruto, just a couple of days after I resumed watching anime again. When I first resumed watching anime a few ago, I at first watched Baccano! which was pretty unique in terms of structuring & plot, but still a great watch regardless and then watched 5-Toubun no Hanayome which a surprisingly good romance-harem anime (I'm never really into those genres much but still somehow enjoyed that one quite a bit because it had quite nice & funny character interactions). After that I got back to Naruto again and resumed at episode 81, from where the arc focusing on Tsunade begins. The arc has been kind of a slow born at times focusing a lot on Naruto's training under Jiraya, but I'm really liking it as I'm getting more. Oh I finally got to see Itachi in the show & his backstory with Sasuke, well he was really intriguing & gave me the creeps in the few episodes he was in, can't really wait to see more of him now. :)

Hey, how have you been? I know that you're probably wondering why I didn't respond for so long, but I had several issues in personal life & stuff over the last 1 and a half months and so on (which is the main reason why I was pretty much on hiatus from watching any anime in that period, in case you noticed it). There were several issues like firstly my mother being really ill for a month or so before she gradually made a full recovery, secondly my laptop stopped functioning for some reason & I had to give it for repairing, which means I had to handle work & stuff without it....having to deal with all these issues were quite difficult indeed. I still used to be pretty active in the forums here in the meantime which you must have noticed, but honestly that was just as a relaxation to relieve myself from the IRL pressure. But anyways, things have finally come together in the last few days, with my mother finally having recovered fully & me getting my laptop fully repaired back, which is why I've finally resumed watching anime like about 4 days ago.

I just explained all these elaborately because I felt that I needed to explain myself for not responding for so on. Anyways, glad to see that you've resumed binge watching anime again, that's quite a surprise since I remember that you earlier said that it'd be much later. :) And you really liked Angel Beats! which is great.

Hmm, I am familiar well enough with only 4 of them, the very 4 girls we share in our Top 10. Yet to see the full extent of Hinata's character so only partly familiar with her....but I found her pretty boring upto where I saw TBH. She mostly seems to be existing for shipping/waifu purposes, cutely blushing in front of Naruto most of the times & admiring him, not having much individual strong traits in her character. But then again, I haven't seen the full extent of her character, so maybe she gets some characterization later on, for which I guess maybe you place her so high. :)
345EdwardElric Jan 5, 2020 9:59 AM
Yeah there are 5 girls in your Top 10 so it can be pretty clearly seen. I don't exactly remember your Top 10 for girls though, mind telling me what it is?
345EdwardElric Jan 5, 2020 8:40 AM
