Guilty Crown. A story that has an amount of plotholes as tragic as its end. Having said that, I still enjoyed it and Guilty Crown has managed to earn a soft spot in my heart. On my anime list I gave this a 10 which in all honesty, was me being a biased prick who had a good time watching this show, but me having a good time doesn't necessarily erase all the flaws that GC had or any other anime for that matter. So on to the review at hand.
Story - 6
- One of the most important factors in any medium is the story.

Guilty Crown being an anime that was built from scratch(the manga was adapted FROM the anime) had the chance to deliver a good tale of a boy who's world was flipped by fate. The premise was solid. The whole void concept had promise. The exposition was good. These didn't stop Guilty Crown from failing to continue the story with same amount of promise until the end. Deus ex machina, unexplained revival (Gai got resurrected by Haruka and Antibodies, how?), too much ambiguousity for Inori's fate(yeah not many people are patient enough to interpret things without a friggin' denouement.), Shu's tyrant stint and more. On the bright side, even though Shu got shit till the end, we get some sort of reassurance that Inori(wherever the hell she is, in Shu's heart, pfffft way to cop out Production I.G.) is watching over Shu who is blind in all sense of the word. Blind in eyesight(the show should him getting there.) and blinded of true happiness.
Characters - 4
-Not much I can say here. Inori's fine and all, though she was a bit useless in the first half, though this maybe was the show's way to get us to like her before the deterioated second half that she gets shoehorned in, meh. Shu is wimpy, becomes a tyrant after a close friend's death, becomes badass, then wimpy, TOO MANY SWITCHING OF PERSONAS! Shu though was "as human as a human could be", he is a boy caught up in the thorny fate of conflict and has shown to make decisions that are realistically what people would make if real life had the same situation he was thrust in. The supporting cast are nothing spectacular but not bad at all.
Music - 10
-Leave it to supercell to make glorious OP and ED songs(Everlasting Guilty Crown was credited to Egoist which had Ryo of supercell). The insert songs were great. Bios was awesome. The soundtrack by Hiroyuki Sawano fit the atmosphere of the scenes very well. The 1st opening song, "My Dearest" had lyrics that may very well be Shu and Inori's relationship and bond throughout the show. An excerpt from the full version of the song(at 4:25 to the end of the song):
itsuka watashi wo shiru koto ga dekita nara
kanarazu sono basho ni watashi ha iru kara
soko ni kibou no kakera sura nakatta to shitemo
watashi ga atte ha naranai mono de attemo
kimi ha wasurenaide itekureru koto wo
dare yori mo watashi ga sono koto wo shitteru
If one day you come to understand all of me,
I will surely be at that place.
So even if there isn’t a piece of hope there,
if I become someone that must not exist,
I know, more than anyone,
that you will never forget about me.
dakara watashi ha kimi no tame ni subete wo
ima sasogou
So, for you, I take my everything
and offer it all…
the above excerpt perfectly conveys the end part of Episode 22 in a way that could melt our hearts.
Visuals -10
-OP,ED and scenes obviously had a high budget. Nice and crisp animation and detail.
Enjoyment - 10
-I have said in the beginning of this review: "On my anime list I gave this a 10 which in all honesty, was me being a biased prick who had a good time watching this show". So of course I give its enjoyment factor a 10. It had me wanting more from the first episode till the end, DESPITE its gaping flaws and plotholes.
Overall - 7.5
-So we draw this review to a close. Guilty Crown has flaws, lots of 'em, but also has its pros like good visuals and music. If you're looking for a show just to enjoy yourself and aren't that overly critical about the details of plot, you should check out Guilty crown. Don't take my word or anyone else's for it though, see for yourself how a hated show such as Guilty Crown can make you enjoy yourself. You owe the experience to no one but yourself.
