Doesn't seem like it's up my alley, ngl. I don't think it's really so much fundamental issues as it is with my personal gripes, cause I couldn't find myself caring much for any of the characters and their respective relationships and backstories. Even utilizing themes like escapism doesn't help. I know that the series is intentionally using short achronologically placed stories to put together a greater overlying narrative and is meant to look confusing, but so far it fails to keep me invested. Doesn't help that the characters feel so washed out and plain looking at least in design and archetype.

I certainly admit that they exist, but I don't mind them too much. A powerful story with great characters can still have some plot conveniences and melodrama. I read a lot of 1800s fiction, so it doesn't bother me too much. Although it is hilarious that the only reason the story begins is that there's a top ranked hospital with only 1 competent surgeon and he bares this massive guilt because everyone he doesn't operate on just dies! Dr. Becker kills 100 percent of patients he operates on in both the manga and anime. An elite hospital has on its staff a doctor so unbelievably horrible that he makes Mengele look good. Even that guy wasn't hitting a 100 percent kill ratio and he didn't disinfect his tools, he didn't use anesthesia, he didn't follow any protocols known to medicine, and didn't care at all if his patients survived...and Becker is somehow worse.
