I didn't like the manga either bro. i only managed to i finish the manga because of the art . I hated the protagonist entire time .Almost all the side characters were boring af. I think it was a well deserved End for the protagonist 😄

Yeah same here with art style, i think its fine and it def fits the more heavy gritty tone but the 80-90s style is just so more lively and charismatic it makes the ambients and characters in his more modern style look... idk empty... the over the top expressions and designs were much better in his older style as well

I think i have a similar take to you except i feel the manga extended for too long and didnt deliver on a good climax, no main villain or threat or really, like, Kiryu is there but he gets his ass kicked by everyone and doesnt really fight anyone, and yeahhh after hyper battle the manga just becomes whatever Saruwatari thought of that week, i was almost excited for that neo-wrestler despite his boring design but the dude gets one shotted by Kiichi which was very boring, i think of the Yugenshinkage were good but GOD were those characters boring ash, and its annoying to see Sonou and Kiryu losing to those bums, and i hate the idea of Kakugo Kasukabe and Seiko not being Kiichi's real dad, i mean, i think it aint that big of a problem at the end of the day but trying to force some kind of relationship between those 2 was horrible, and he isnt really mentioned in Tough 3.


As far as Tough 3 goes, i think its fine, might become better than Tough 2 but the fights were very uncreative and short this time around but that seems to improve in the parts not translated yet, but at this point the series is not a mystical take on MMA and more of the manga version of Fast and Furious.

so how is Tough so far i was actually thinking of reading it, also saw you finished Tough 2 as well

yea its definitely a pretty tough enviroment nowadays, imagine back then where at least it would seem to be wayy worse.

Hiramatsu even worked with Buronson pre-Hokuto no Ken with Doberman Deka, a manga that isnt translated but im really interested in it because it seems prety damn awesome, and yeah i remember being surprised with some of the stuff it seemingly did before HnK and any of Hara's work, and the obvious link with that, though in Hiramatsu's manga autobiography, it shows that Hiramatsu considered murdering Saruwatari while he slept at the studio, probably due to some level of mental illness and stress he was experiencing at the time, especially with his editora and such, manga isnt translated but from what i could understand he was a very disturbed individual lol.




yeah good luck with Tough 2, im mixed on it tbh especially with how messy it is through out but some of the fights go insane.

Yeah same here despite the story derailing like crazy after the Black Beasts arc lol its just so cool and the early group dynamics were indeed pretty good, in a slight reread i did i noticed how good the character development was in the episodic chapters instead of the long battle ones but it was a lot of fun and went pretty crazy with the battles man i just wish that final arc made a lil more sense and was less rushed also wish there was a OVA adaptation back in the day sad to see the series is largely forgotten

Yea its very Golgo 13/Lone Wolf and Cub-ish for the first volume but the series just goes into something else i think you will enjoy it though

good luck with Black Angels, its a pretty insane trip

tbf a lot of people's first exposure to Baki was the 2018 anime adapting New Grappler so i guess it isnt that uncommon
