Vinland Saga Season 2 was great and my favorite weekly anime of the year so far, amazing arc and can't wait for the next two in season 3.
Pluto came out strong last week and for me it's anime of the year without much competition tbh. Been waiting for so long and it was very worth it, Pluto is now in my top 5 anime and I'm already sad that I finished it so quick.
I don't know how Netflix does this, but very smart move to give 0 promotion to one of your best adaptation to such a widely acclaimed manga, not as popular as Berserk or Monster, but of course that they're gonna promote another season of Big Mouth and some random trash anime lol. Definitely recommending Pluto, peak of Japanese animated media.
Speaking of peak, I watched Sonny Boy earlier this year and it's now my second favorite anime, just behind Ergo Proxy.
Sonny Boy is what I can call a modern masterpiece. This anime is Natsume Shingo's best work by far with phenomenal direction and writing that can showcase his skills. From the first episode it might seem confusing and hard to digest, but you can see the deuteragonists, Nagara and Nozomi having a great dynamic and chemistry from the first moments, giving the start to this surreal journey.
This anime really had everything, a thought provoking art direction, wonderful cast, stories, OST, voice acting, dynamics, great storyboarding, moments, amazing last episode and so much more.
Bleach TYBW is the best that shounen can offer probably. This arc is the best moments of Bleach and it's pretty good, worth the wait for this quality production from studio Pierrot, not much else to say about this one.
Sousou no Frieren is definitely one of the highlights this season has and seems like it's going well, watched first few episodes and it was good. For now it's On-Hold, but I'll come back to it eventually.
I'm watching Nana right now and it's kinda meh, story and message are there, but I can't stand the main character lol.
I've watched some other stuff, but not much else to be worth mentioning. I watched Castlevania Nocturne that was good( depends on second season tbh), not really up with the original series, but still worth watching if you're a fan of the series.
Fionna and Cake was another great watch. I mostly just watched the series for Simon, since I can't stand Fionna and Cake, but the whole series was good, was nice to see a more extended version of the Adventure Time universe.
At least they are promoting the Scott Pilgrim anime.
If you don't mind the beginning, I think you'll find it worth reading.
I really like Ergo Proxy. Such a good, underrated and beautiful show.
I agree with you. Vincent is one of the characters that are really hard to directly compare. He has a lot of interesting aspects and depth, a phenomenal and very overlooked character. I can see identity crisis going either way to be honest, between Vincent and Lain, both got it really well done.
Ergo Proxy is one of the best experiences that I had with anime. I hardly believe that it will leave my top 10 animanga.
He has beautiful characterization, depth, layers, and he was executed in a splendid way, especially in the setting gave in the anime on top of the self-discovery journey he has. If you look deeper in the world of Ergo Proxy, Vincent will only get better and more complex, only looking at the surface he is already a very good character. I had a full length analysis on him some time ago, and I'll send it to you if I find where I wrote it.
I see him at the top of characters with crazy development like Musashi.
Vincent has a lot of strong points, like identity crisis. Vincent Law > Phos >= Kaneki (if you read Tokyo Ghoul and Houseki no Kuni).
Vincent > Musashi, Guts, Phos, Kaneki, Jin Kanzaki, Thorfinn, Tenma, Legosi, Eren, Gesicht. I find him to be a better character overall than the few characters I gave as example. I've also heard his better or at least equal with Mon(very very praised protagonist from what I've seen online) from The World Is Mine(haven't read that one yet).
Also Re-L Mayer is a phenomenal character too.
You have some good stuff in your favorites.
