Ancient China with supernatural background. MCs are badass women, fall in love with cool royal guys. Tong ling fei is better in everything, but both are worth-watching.

The MC is a strong female character lacking femininity and self-confidence but hard-working and with strong determination. She obviously meets the perfect guy who is also a huge pervert and they fall in love. Both are light-hearted, drama-free, fresh and enjoyable to watch.

Both are about socially awkward yet gifted MCs meeting energetic and positive people that will open their mind teach them healthier way of life. Art is amazing in both, especially some effects in 3-gatsu no Lion make it truely beautiful. Nice OST as well. NB: 3-gatsu no Lion is often compared to Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso but to me it's unaccurate because both have very different 'vibes' as the second one tends to be over dramatic and sad, while the first one is absolutely NOT.

Jie Yao
add

Two people definitely not coming from the same world, it is impossible for them to understand each other... Some characters have heavy and tragic past, and will have to overcome it in order to start a new life. Given is a realistic and light BL, whereas Jie Yao has BL background but it is really not demonstrative (being Chinese). Also both have really good OST, Jie Yao sounds a little Jazzy and Given revolves around music. This is what I liked most in these anime.

Quanzhi Gaoshou

Have you already pictured yourself being trapped in a game ? This is what's Log Horizon is about. The story of Quanzhi Gaoshou maybe be really different and happening in 100% real world, I can't help thinking these two anime about video games managed to deal with the gameplay very well. There are no unlikely and coming-from-nowhere abilities, it is just about how players love playing to their games - to an extent almost noxious - and spend all their time on it, resulting in being over-skilled. I recommend both of them, they are among the best of the kind !

Mo Ri Shu Guang

A travel to escape zombies and survive in a post-apocalyptic world... Both have average ranking on MAL but deserve the watch if you like the genre. Although Mo Ri Shu Guang is Chinese, it can compete with other Japonese animes of the same genre in term of art and animation. Both have good OST and I especially like Mo Ri Shu Guang opening. Don't hesitate to watch one of these two, and if you do like it, know that you are likely to enjoy the other ;)

Log Horizon 2nd Season
add

Not the same type at all, most people would rather compare Log Horizon to SAO, but many moments of the second season of Log Horizon actually reminded me of Fairy Tail that I hadn't seen for a very long time. Looking backwards, I think the rythm is quite similar, and there is something in the OST that you can find in both shows (very good OST btw). The comparison stops there as I believe Log Horizon is far more mature than Fairy Tail ;)

Literally a torrent of emotions ... For those who like it, these are must-watch. For others, I recommend also if only for drawing and animation. And such beautiful soundtrack can only help...

It is deadly chess... Basically if you make one mistake you die. The longer you hide what you kow, the more likely it is for you to survive. I strongly recommend both of them for the tension :)

Dororo
add

One is form China, and the other from Japan, and yet they have quite a few similarities. Both have extraordinary animation and nice plot, occur in a middle-age & mythologic time and slowly slide towards a rather dark atmosphere. Mo Dao Zu Shi is a bit complicated at first, but is a master piece for me (with outstanding music too). Anyway if you enjoyed watching one of the two, you will likely enjoy the other !

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken

Easy-to-watch Isekai, both are a bit superficial (as usual with Isekai) but involve likeable characters with great powers, willing to fully enjoy their new life. If you want to relax/enjoy a positive anime after watching the Mirai Nikki-type, these two animes are for you !

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan

Dororo
add

Even if Rurouni Kenshin is a bit old now (and long), the animation is still very good and I loved the atmosphere. It is quite similar to Dororo in a way - you are fully immersed in Japan culture and medieval past. Characters are interesting and in the case of Dororo they evolve a lot. Therefore, if you like samurai, Japanese myths and legends, you will definitely love these animes !

Yuri!!! on Ice
add

Fantastic music, both have characters who grow doing what they love, and characters' psychology is quite complex. Very short and easy-to-watch (12 ep). Yuri on Ice is a bit special, but has a beautiful animation and drawings and so does Sakamichi no Apollon. Sakamichi no Apollon is a master piece for me !

Shoukoku no Altair
add

Both are epic stories, and depict heroes who have to live an incredible odysey to fulfill their dreams/destiny. Both Shoukoku no Altair and Arslan Senki have historic inspirations (Persia, Turkey) and are good if you want to learn more about or are interested in military/diplomatic strategy. Furthermore, I found these anime had very good animation, music and character design. They do not leave the slightest opportunity to get bored !

Quite short, both are about people rather isolated at the begining who progressively build a team of heroes. Adventure-based animes, they both occure in a middle-age/fantastic environnement, are easy to watch, with no pretention !
