I read it years ago, actually, and only got around to updating my profile a few months ago. I'm not very good with being active on this site, as this 2.5-month delayed reply indicates. Sorry.
Will I read the other manga? Not the ones that are just adaptations of SAC and Arise, but I have been reading The Human Algorithim, first on Kindle Unlimited and then on a pirate site. It's excellent, if a little less intricate in its plotting than SAC. It comes deliciously close, though.
Yeah, watching Talking Head after having seen pretty much everything else Oshii has made put things a little in perspective, doesn't it? Specially the kind of obsession Oshii had, mainly in his early career, with the theme of storytelling and how we derive meaning from it, which we can see also in Gosenzo-sama and in Red Spectacles.
I've played the game, it's fun and all, it adds a little to the lore and the awareness that we, as players, play as the character that will symbolicly represent god in the movie adds some more nuance to the way you see the plot as a whole. But I would recommend to you just to spoil all the lore and main plot points to your friend right away, I've done it with one of my friends and it has worked perfectly. I believe it did so because, when you are blind watching it, you put too much effort in trying to understand the story, ends up quite frustrated and don't get enough time to pay attention to the WAY Oshii is telling all of this, which it the most fascinating part. Just an advice from what have worked for me, of course haha. And I would talk more about my interpretation of it, but would unevitably end up being too prolix, so...
Well, actually, to be honest, I don't remember a lot about SAC lol. In deed I've heard 2nd GIG is the best it gets and all and didn't even find it to the point I've watched particularly bad, just probably didn't engaged that much with the episodic aproach and was quite mad at the time with Motoko's cringe design lmao. But I'm willing to give it a second chance
I'm sorry for the late reply, I haven't been around here for a while.
But I certainly recommend it, if you like Oshii's stuff you will find Talking Head interesting, at the very least, specially since you are currently watching Gosenzo-sama, they have a lot in commom. And TRUE, Sky Crawlers is probably the most hated Oshii anime movie, even by his fans, by I disagree entirely. This film is one of the greatest pieces of art ever made, it is the synthesis of all the angsts Oshii tried to deal with throughout his career and the way he portrays them, specially in the film's ending, makes me wanna cry already lmao
Hey there! Can I ask you a couple of questions? How is Tetsuwan Birdy manga, and also how good is the Moribito novels? I'm a fan of both anime adaptations. Also, great taste overall. Cheers!
