Good observation, I didn't even notice my taste had that sort of pattern to it

Although Lelouch is a mega introvert, his rhetoric does seem to convince me and the viewers. I do agree that some of the soldiers seem to have rather somewhat blind adherence to authority, but their motivations somewhat make sense to me. These Brittanian soldiers see the Japanese has "inferior beings" and are instilled with a sort of deleterious national pride.

I do agree that some of the side characters you were referring to do have motivations and goals. I wasn't clear in my original analysis but I consider those "main characters". I'm more talking about the characters(some admirals, etc) that act as dumb idiots to be sacrificial lambs. They had about 120 episodes to develop these characters, they could have cut out some of the later episodes that are pretty redundant to develop these characters. Even if one of the main themes of the show is individualism, every foot soldier is portrayed as some kind of pawn. We rarely see through the eyes of the foot soldiers or those training to be soldiers in Reinhard's or The Alliance's fleet. I just find it very hard to believe that millions of soldiers have blind adherence to authority, moments of questioning this authority outside the main cast are very sparse. I do agree that the main cast was beautifully written, I gave characters a relatively high score, though it isn't really visible. Characters don't fully make a show for me though, I often prioritise narratives and worldbuilding of a show(my other reviews and taste reflect that too) . The characters didn't particularly resonate with me either other than maybe Reinhard and Reuemthal. Even if culture reverts back to the 19th century which is already a bit of a stretch. You would have to believe that technology has regressed to the point of using heavy battle axes as melee weapons and using old fashioned computers and televisions. I personally find it to completely break my suspension of disbelief.

On the topic of Code Geass, I do agree the characters are more straightforward and less interesting. Other than the middle half of R2, I never really found Code Geass breaking my suspension of disbelief that much. Tactics a lot of the time seem rather legit, and have reasonable reasons to why enemies wouldn't have seen through such tactics. Although some of the tactics seem rather similar and possibly inspired by LOGH, the execution of those tactics seem infinitely more plausible. The fact that LOGH battles take place often in a 2D plane already leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Code Geass takes place in the distant future(might not even be the future) on Earth whereas LOGH takes place far into the future, the same criticism on worldbuilding cannot really be applied. Soldiers in Code Geass often do not show the same blind loyalty shown in LOGH, some Britannian soldiers do show some remorse towards the Nippon and vice versa and often questions the orders given by superiors when it seems unreasonable. One of the only points in the show where blind loyalty is apparent is when Lelouch uses his Geass on others which ties in to the theme of Lelouch's Geass.

That is not to say LOGH is a bad anime per say 6/10 on my list is considered above average already. A lot do anime I have recently watched I tend to drop in just a few episodes. It kept me watching for 120 episodes and that is no small feat.

FMAB is trash. Do not fall into the hype (although I'm probably saying this years after you watched it). Everyone watches FMAB as a kid and thinks "wow what a sophisticated anime!!!" Just another shonen for kids that everyone buys into because it looks a little dark and cool.

The guy is a copy and paste from Phenious and Ferb I don’t know if it’s cause I watched that show 1000 times or what but seeing the same personality’s set me off. Big the icing on the cake is the entire plot I do have to say the anime was pretty good till the part it killed itself was when that girl kept dying over and over. From that point the ENTIRE plot regressed itself in a painful way undoing everything the anime did. With that fact in mind it’s really hard for me to see this and a heaven worthy show.
