It's been a long time since an anime like this came out. This is a new masterpiece.
Let's start with the visuals. Everything is beautiful. Especially the backgrounds. The architecture, the furniture, the scenery, the vegetation... Everything is drawn with care and love. The artists have done a great job with the towns and streets. The animation of the characters is pleasant and fluid. Action scenes are dynamic and saturated. The camera angles and 'fly-throughs' are fascinating. The lighting changes in scenes during spell flashes are also pleasing. The picture is pleasing to the eye. The artists' palette is wide. They don't hesitate to use greys
...
and faded tones in the rain or early morning, and then go for bright colours to represent the evening.
The music. This is a masterpiece in itself. There are several very cool compositions written for "Frieren", and the whole of YouTube is full of covers. It didn't manage to break the charts with the title theme like "Oshi no Ko" did, but it's still a very good composition. I recommend watching the official videos for "Frieren". They're good.
The world. We see the baker, the shepherd and many other minor characters. We see typical fantasy life. Everything is very believable and internally logical. The world of "Frieren" is a real fantasy. The characters are completely different from our contemporaries in another environment. The customs, habits, ways of thinking, values of the local characters are well suited to the world.
The characters. They are our everything. They are alive, evolving, with their own thoughts, concerns, dreams and struggles. They speak, react, think, decide. A whole range of emotions and thoughts run through them. You can see this even in the supporting characters. Think of Denken rolling up his sleeves before he pulls off acquirement of the Stille.
The main characters grow and develop before our eyes. And it's not just Frieren, Fern and Stark, but also Himmel and his entire party. The flashbacks are especially good here. By the end of the season you feel that you have walked alongside Himmel, not everywhere, in some places, but he becomes close and familiar, just like Frieren. The writer has put a lot of effort into showing us Frieren's development as a character, getting us to know her and everyone around her. And he succeeded.
The narration. It is not rushed, funky, but soft and measured, not in a hurry to get somewhere. But when it's getting to the point, it's starting a fast and bright action. There are some sharp and impressive moves, such as the fight between Frieren and Aura. We are smoothly led into what's to come, given all the introductions, and then...
It can be called a masterpiece. I recommend it to everyone.
But there is a moment. "Sousou no Frieren", the greater the burden of your life, the better this anime feels. Not everyone carries it with them, not everyone has had time to collect it, and I may be one of them. For that reason, this anime may not be understandable for some, but still appreciating it is a must.

It's not a bad anime in general, with good ecchi'ish. It has comedy, action and even some plot.
Let's start with the plot. It's mediocre, unexpressive. There is logic, but it's lame and oblique. The characters' decisions occasionally makes you raise an eyebrow, but there is no blatant, overwhelming stupidity.
The world in which the action takes place isn't exactly original. Most of the action takes place in and around the dormitory. In fact, the environment around their post will be the 'originality'.
The characters are entertaining and likeable. They don't disgust me. They are written more or less canonically, but with attention and love from the author.
...
Not just cardboard. Their character is not written in a very fancy way, but does not end with a single trait either.
The animation is normal, low budget. Nothing special about it. The amount of frames during the action sequences are a bit small, the 3D is stuffed in some places... Ecchi is well drawn, but definitely not a masterpiece. It fits into the story normally. The author doesn't try to fill every minute of the video with a bit of pantsu shots or oppai from an odd angle.
I didn't find anything remarkable in the musical accompaniment. It's there, it doesn't grates on the ear.
The quality of comedy here is 'a regular Japanese dormitory with a bunch of maidens and a guy'. It's like something out of the French Bureau of Weights and Measures. In other words, for connoisseurs. But done normally, without going to extremes and ridiculousness.
Very average stuff. There are a lot of things in a similar genre of ecchi comedy, but much better quality. "Ishuzoku Reviewers", "Futoku no Guild" or "Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarate", for example. It looks okay, but will be quickly and easily forgotten. Not bad for superficial viewing in a state of idle laziness.
Cultured viewers will not appreciate this work either, however, entertaining and fascinating moments of culture are present here, and in general this is not a bad anime, with a quite good ecchi. There is comedy and action, and even some plot.
And, Tenka all the way もちろん.

I'm going to explain a little bit about what's happening on the screen and what it's all about.
This anime is not about characters, but about events. Also, this anime can be called a real fantasy. The locals and characters have their own morals, values and ideas. These are not our contemporaries in a strange entourage. I also notice the elaboration of the backgrounds. They are often beautiful. Different towns have different architecture. Soldiers in uniform are different, not just the colour of the cloak behind their back. In general, the world of this anime is interesting and quite elaborate.
Let's go through the action sequences. It's
...
there. Not that there's a lot of it, but there is. It's also nice and quite logical. The wyvern fight was good. The other fights aren't bad either. I'm very happy that when two characters meet and fight, one of them doesn't necessarily die. They can just scatter. Soujiro and The Skeleton, for example.
About the characters. There are a lot of them, they are different. They have motivations, backstories, character. Many characters will die. Some who live longer and have enough screen time even have development.
Does the plot 'jump' from one character to another? No. The author paints a big picture. Each character and their episode shows a part of it. Revealing a piece of the larger story. It's remotely reminiscent of "A Song of Ice and Fire". In the last, 12th episode, the second half of the episode, more of the story is revealed. It's about a new world without monsters confronting the remnants of the old world and cleansing the world of all superpowered creatures. It's about the change of epochs and how it happens. The action is shown through the eyes of the characters. Otherwise this anime would be a historical lecture.
Definitely not a standard approach.
My rating is 8/10. Less of a template. An elaborate, original world. Character stories that are fun to watch.
It's not for everyone. A lot of people just won't understand what it's about. They can't wrap their head around the picture of the story, and that's that. The small number of templates will also put some people off. Although the hot springs episode is there.
The most discouraging factor is the lack of a main single narrative line.

I watched the whole thing... I wish I hadn't.
This anime starts out as a typical cute children's anime about animals... There's a protagonist, Nefertima, who looks after these animals. There's also a very typical plot at the beginning, where everything is fine. But then it gets wild. The author of the anime deliberately puts all the animals, monsters and other things in a subordinate position of an inferior species. Nefertima deigns to create a reservation for the monsters she allows to live there. She doesn't even plan to help them find shelter. In addition to the reservation, adventurers are supposed to raid these reservations to
...
'keep the numbers up'. If you think plans are everything, they're not. Nefertima 'helped' (what was the help?) the kobolds so well that some of them died and some were crippled. What prevented them from running away without a fight? Nothing. And that's not all. The kobolds didn't fight to the death. They took men captive. And the men slaughtered them. Indeed. Let's fight with our hands tied. Or the punishers who kill us will hurt themselves. Well, and the height of scum - to send kobolds into the middle of nowhere, where there is nothing, with no supplies, no provisions, with many wounded, and to go to a feast in honour of the victory over them. Genius.
Nefertima will help the kobolds a few more times, and we won't have to worry. There won't be any kobolds left. No beasts, no problems. There's no logic to the story.
The beginning of this work is a typical cute fluffy story, and then the author piled on stupidity, cringe, blood and other savagery. Children should definitely not be allowed to watch such an anime.

Visual. Cheap. The usual simple animation. The backgrounds are either okay or bad. For the record, low quality animation does not necessarily make an anime bad. Examples include "Bookworm". Oh yeah, there's a slide show here and there.
The music. It's there. Very generic music, and its use is questionable in some places.
The world. It's strange. It's very weird. Again, these game elements are crammed in. Like to close a dungeon, you have to kill a boss but then it closes. Bosses are killed but dungeons are not closed, even though you got the loot from the boss... Also it's good to have a dungeon nearby,
...
it can be farmed. But why are they trying to complete it? And also in 2 dungeons in the final room there is no one and once reached there adventurers will do what? And how to get out?
Characters. Everyone's favourite perpetually sick sister - she's like that just because. Accept it. The author has limited her positive qualities to being cuddly and a good cook. Same with the rest of the characters. Cardboarding. All the characters have very few qualities. They only do what suits their traits. There is no liveliness in them. There is also no character development. There were attempts by the author to make something of the twins but by the end of the series all the fluttering about them had stopped.
The plot. It's really bad here. The quality is primitive. In each battle, mc-kun discovers the right powers and wins by overpowering them. That's it. And the fights are not spectacular.... There's no logic in the plot. Everything is very Deus ex machined. New powers just appear.
It's boring and dull. I only got into it because I was bored. There's nothing original about it. There's no cute stuff nor comedy either. Not even Ecchi.
Of the recent ones, "Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata" or "Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha" are much better. Of the recent ones, the misadventures of the zombie cleric were quite entertaining. And yes, the budget was so-so there too. But substance X was memorable, as well as the cute girls at the reception.
There's not much to remember here. It's just mediocre. I'll give it to them though. Not as disgusting as "The Kingdom of Ruin".

It's a good anime. Not a masterpiece. It has a number of flaws, but in general it is very good. It's above average, but not too much higher.
I think the art is good. The backgrounds are varied. Many of them are good. In some places there are generic background textures and lazy drawing, but only in some places. The animation itself is animation. Good. The characters are drawn normally. The spectacle doesn't turn into a web comic with a few animated elements. The character design is not bad, by the way. And the supporting ones are not forgotten. Cute demon lamb, foxy the little sister,
...
demoness (bodysuit), the demon general, the whole rescue team, even the guard at the gate. Handsome. And the King is good.
The story and the plot do not shine with novelty, logic and elaboration. They threw Deus ex machinas into bridges, drive square peg into round holes and piled up cringe for a minute. I will mention the comedy component separately. It is there, but it is not that much and there is no emphasis on it.
Good points of the plot.
Newly arrived heroes will go to study/training. Then go on their first training mission in a controlled environment. With support. And then they go into battle. And before they go into battle, they suit up. One more thing. The growth of Usato's strength over time is shown through the people around him. Think of the moment when he let bear to be carried.
On the positive side. The king, the local aristocracy and the people of the town react normally to the heroes. The author didn't put in a snobbish knight/aristocrat who is as dumb and blind as a doorknob. I am very grateful for that.
On the downside... In places the logic stops. From the fattest moments - the foxy little sister foreseen the future, and Usato... decided to keep quiet. After all, he's certainly well versed in magic, predictions and what to do about them.
The world in which the action takes place looks normal at the moment.
However, there are questions about the local demon king. He just looks like an aggressive neighbouring feudal lord. He seems a bit weak. Of course, we may see him in all his glory in the next season... But it was surprisingly realistic. A little feudal showdown of neighbours with a battle of a few hundred against a few hundred. Very high medieval. There is a suspicion that the author had something else in mind, and this is an accident.
Cute demon lamb and the beating she receives are pleasing to the eye as well.

Good, quality anime. A little romance, a little detective, a little comedy. Drama and melodrama are present.
Let's start with the visuals. Everything is good, beautiful, animations are smooth, backgrounds are gorgeous. The artists do not forget what and how they drew ten episodes ago, and from a different angle the locations are still recognisable. Everyday objects and clothing details are also pleasing to the eye.
The musical accompaniment is good, very thematic. Sound effects are where they should be and are correctly chosen.
Plot. Characters. Story. It's important to note that this is not a documentary. But the author's level of immersion in the mores of ancient
...
times is high. It's true that he has created a very Japanized China. But the point is that the characters are not our contemporaries. They have their own understanding of hierarchy, their place in life, the interaction between people. They act accordingly. Remember how Mao Mao tries to keep a low profile and does not show her ability to read and write. Or her melancholy attitude to being kidnapped. I'll work here for a few years, then I'll get out.
The plot develops smoothly and consistently. Time passes slowly. Seasons change. Weeks and months go by between events. It's very satisfying. For example, the annual events take place every two years and every year. The author doesn't forget them.
Characters are alive, they evolve. They are not expressed by a single trait. The main characters are varied and interesting. The supporting characters, such as the court pharmacist, are also revealed. Remember how they rushed to fry mushrooms with Mao Mao. The main character herself is good. She is interesting to watch and grows bit by bit.
The relationships between the characters are well written. They are often complex and cannot be expressed in one word. They also develop dynamically. And these relationships are even present in the supporting ones.
I'm also very happy that there are servants in this anime, and they're really servants. There are a lot of them, and they do what servants are supposed to do.
In general, this anime looks nice. Mao Mao is memorable.
This anime is worth recommending. Even to those who are not familiar with the genre.
It might not satisfy people who want obvious cardboard characters with stiff as a board twists and a Deus ex machina plot.
You have to follow the characters and more or less remember them, otherwise the story might fall apart.

Let's start with the strengths. The artwork is okay, it looks good. The backgrounds are there too, and some of them are even nice. Although there are some absurdities. Like the door made of wooden planks in the Count's residence... And the local special forces - clones. The musical accompaniment is not a delight. It's there.
But with the rest... There are problems. This anime tries to be everything at once. A journey to another world, a bureau against the espers, a fairy girls and, it seems, there will be demons too... As a result, we do everything, but we do it all badly. Travel to
...
another world sounds more like the drunken ramblings of a regional sales manager. The local aristocracy looks very strange. In some places the author gets into the subject very well, but this is rather an exception, more like an accident.
The Bureau and the Espers are completely inarticulate. When they appear, it's not at all clear why. The Bureau's operations are more like clowning around. The recruitment of the schoolboy pyromancer was particularly 'cool'...
The scabrous fairy girls add colour. Why are they even there? And I'm not kidding about the scabrous ones.
It looks like a patchwork of stories. All crammed in to please everyone. You have to justify all the tags. As a result, there are no normal stories in any direction. It's all a load of rubbish. Everything is very superficial and not developed.
In the second half of the season, logic lies quietly in a corner and dies. Sometimes it flutters there in convulsions.
I'd also like to mention the author's passionate love for lolis. There are a lot of them and... I'm not quite sure why there are so many. Mc-kun's neighbour, partner, Shizuka, princess, two magical girls... Did you count them all? I don't know why. The same partner would have lost nothing if she was just a woman of 20-25 years old, right after the police academy or something. Now she's just a loli teenager with a gun. I can understand that if that's what the plot is about. Like in 'Lycoris Recoil' or 'Gunslinger Girls'. But this is strange. Mc-kun is as indifferent to them as possible, and they, um, well, they do something around him.
The plot itself is twitchy. It's not clear how much time has passed, how much of what the character has done and where. I can't even roughly count how much time has passed between the beginning of the story and episode 12.
Watching this anime, I keep asking myself. What is the mc-kun's motivation? Why? Why is he doing all this? In the beginning it was quite clear, but in the later episodes the character development and the acquisition of new goals didn't take place.
By the way, the narrative has a huge level of Deus ex machinas. You don't get to see the premise, predict a new plot twist, etc. Events just happen. Here's a new twist for you today. In one of the three storylines.
As a result. This anime tried everything and failed. The story is disjointed and illogical. It's just a mess of tags.
Is it worth watching? Not at the moment. It ends with nothing, just in a half-word. There's not even an epilogue.
If there is a sequel, maybe.
Don't get me wrong. It's not a total horror like 'The Kingdoms of Ruin'. It's just that everything is either average or below average.
Watching it was a dip in a vat of horror for me. In contrast, Frieren and Pharmacist look better. You start to appreciate the quality.

It's a good, decent anime, with a slow-paced narrative and some goodness present inside.
Let's start with the visuals. It's average to above average. It's well drawn here and there. The backgrounds aren't bad either. Pleasing to the eye. The assets of the female characters are pleasing to the eye as well. The equipment looks like typical fantasy, but is well drawn. There are 3D inserts. They are executed okayish. It is all good, but it could have been better.
The music is good, I liked the opening and even remembered it.
Plot, Story and Characters. The story itself isn't that original, but it's good. It's not quite
...
isekai. I have to say that it's not so much the originality that counts, but the quality of the execution. And here everything is good. The story develops without a rush. The characters interact. Time passes. The world without mc-kun doesn't pause. Rentt acts like an experienced, but still kind and naive fun-loving guy. The characters react accordingly. I didn't notice any illogical or stupid behaviour. The characters are alive and believable. Yes, there is canonical anime shabbiness in them. The archetypes are there. Except that the characters aren't look like cardboard dummies.
The plot moves very smoothly, pauses and lets you examine the details. It's a nice touch.
The world is also full of details and particulars. The author also shows special respect to the local blacksmith and treats the sword as a tool with its own limitations and lifespan.
Many of the quests are along the 'pacifist' line. For example, Rentt didn't kill the rats in the cellar. Oh, and overall, there is a certain sense of kindness in this anime, or something like that. It's not a sweet fantasy where the mc-kun gets everything with half a kick, but it's not just a silly brutal solo leveling either. There are hardships, pain and suffering, but they can be overcome and there are and will be good days.
It looks good and relaxed. A quality anime with a decent plot. Not a masterpiece. Just a good one. I look forward to the sequel.
Can be recommended to fans of fantasy and probably also to newcomers of the anime.

I think the anime and manga industry is in deep stagnation because almost every project is aimed at school children. The target audience has a firm grip on the animation studios' throats, and it seems that the stories will never "wise up", instead there will be eternal "pantsu shot".
But '3-gatsu no Lion' is one of the few projects that can shake up the established laws and finally give food for the mind and heart. Because the problems, micro-themes and characters here are universal, they breathe life, much more complex than the cardboard characters of shoujo and shounen manga, than cardboard heroics and bland romantic stories.
'3-gatsu
...
no Lion' is full of unapologetic pain and sadness. And the central theme of the series is loneliness. A man comes into this world alone to leave it alone, and no one will warm his heart, understand his soul, or take his hand when it is needed most.
A young boy with the colloquial name of Rei (meaning 'zero') Kiriyama becomes a professional shogi player at the age of 17. He drops out of school and settles in Tokyo. His life is like Groundhog Day, with only the seasons changing. Rei wakes up, studies shogi tactics pamphlets, plays shogi, then goes to a shogi club, plays shogi, comes home, maybe eats, plays shogi and goes to bed. And so it would go on until old age, unless one day, after winning another match, the boy was drunk by senior shogi masters. Of course, the teenager was not ready for adulthood, and the poor boy was left on the street, but he was helped by Akagi Kawamoto, who was returning home from the host club where she worked part-time with her aunt. Rei was dragged to the Kawamoto family, pumped up, put to bed, fed and set free to get on with his life. It turns out that Akagi is the eldest of the Kawamoto sisters, dragging around her teenage sister Hinata and the very young Momo as a substitute for their mother. Also living with them is their grandfather, who is trying to support Akagi's large family and a bunch of fat cats. So Rei unknowingly joins the Kawamoto family and becomes something like a Sunday nurse, parasite and big brother at the same time.
Gradually the list of characters grows and the audience learns that Rei has a rival friend whom he has ignored for more than ten years. The eccentric fat kid from a rich family has fallen in love with Rei's game, and now he won't let him take a single step, preventing him from slipping into depression and loneliness. But Kiriyama is indifferent to his efforts and suffering, because Rei is lost in the depths of his own tragedy without noticing anyone.
I do not want to spoil the audience's enjoyment by describing the essence of this tragedy, but what is important is something else. Despite its ordinariness, the tragedy is presented in such a way that it grabs you by the paws. At first it's a little sad, then it's disturbing, and then you want to cry with despair. Kiriyama's loneliness is monstrous, even though the character doesn't scream, cry or curse his fate. He has accepted the fact that he is drowning in darkness, and this acceptance of loneliness, this absolute willingness to die, is terrifying.
But the most difficult of all is another micro-theme - the story of a destructive love that shatters life by its very existence. Rei does not know what love is, but in the depths of his soul he loves a girl who only laughs at him, plays with his feelings, deceives his rigid and stubborn mind. She is the lightning that flashes in the daylight, promising a terrible storm, and one word from this girl can break Kiriyama's will. He will lose, he will give in, he will voluntarily wall himself into the four walls of a poor apartment, but even there this destructive force will find him. The girl will not let him leave alive. After all, Rei is her enemy, the one who took everything from her. And watching the deep conflict between these people, so different in nature, is a real pleasure. They hurt each other so much, knowingly and unknowingly, that the spectacle seems to be a game of survival, not a nice series in the genre of 'everyday life'.
Don't let the above description put you off: there are plenty of scenes of concentrated cuteness to be found here. The divine animation of Shogi pieces and rules, where all the pawns and generals are shown as an army of cats! Very adorable cats, able to overcome even the most callous soul with their cuteness. In general, '3-gatsu no Lion' is a series about cats, because there are so many of them, and they are animated with such quality that you can get ten minutes of pure cuteness.
The graphics of the series is very close to the typical design of stories in the genre of shoujo, but do not be deceived by the pink picture and the soft faces of the characters. Behind them lurks a deep darkness, which is made with a soul. Everyday life can be both sweet and scary, I assure you.
You can understand that from the opening, which has all the key moments of the series that can hook the soul. And the most powerful element is the title theme, which sticks in your head and doesn't let go until the very end. The endings have also been worked on, and it's hard to say which is better: the beginning or the end? It turns out that the whole 25 minutes of the series are pure pleasure without any deception. And that's rare.
'3-gatsu no Lion' is a good series in the everyday drama genre. But in the depths of this story lurks a powerful tragedy, and if you pay close attention to the details, you can see death and domestic violence, or you can see a quiet family happiness and a story about growing up. This series is very multifaceted, and therefore can be enjoyed by almost everyone. However, it kinda hard to watch without understanding shogi, it's like watching chess without knowing the rules, if you can get over it you can enjoy this series.
