Then why bother even bringing up that second point about "elitists" if it was unrelated? If anything, you could've cut out that part of the sentence entirely and then that wouldn't have been another issue. Even still, that was still a bad thing to ask. Sometimes the top review can be utter garboni, yea, like the top Re:Creators review which is the worst legitimate review I've ever read that became popular.

TBH, that wouldn't really fly. Yeah, some try to lean on certain aspects more than others and some cannot really be judged by all aspects, but the examples you brought up are all audiovisual stories, so they need to be judged on their merits as a narrative and as a visual product. Some anime are definitely more about the visuals and others look more into their narratives, sure, but it's not like you can cut one part out of the equation unless the anime does that itself, like an episodic comedy that relies on characters from other installments of a franchise that it is there to be the meta humor of.

I get drawn more into mech anime personally. Don't usually care for sports stories but Keijo seemed wild and turned out to be wild in all the right ways.

It's because it doesn't even try. Even with all the other generic shows I don't like, I can tell they try to entertain and even try to look good. I don't get that from this anime. It doesn't even look like it's trying to pander, it doesn't try to have catchy music for us to enjoy while we see what's going on, it doesn't even try to look visually pleasing in any way, and the women are largely the same instead of varied archetypes like many would at least enjoy. It's so bad even by the standards of those other shows and many people felt disappointed by that, and I can't really blame them. I value creativity and effort, and it doesn't really bother in either direction.

Goat simulator is a meme game, a whacky, purposely broken game for you to try to explore to kingdoms come as you do crazy shit and make your goat and the people he licks, into a rag doll. That doesn't really constitute much comparison to an anime that seems to merely exist to exist.

And once again, the fact that you try to bring up "you Elitists have too high standards" shows that you don't have an iota of a leg to stand on. I don't care if it tries to be a deep ass story. I love Keijo for fuck's sake, and it's a generic sports anime with a gloriously ludicrous premise. I don't consider Knight's & Magic very good but I enjoyed it just fine. I love Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, and I'm the only person I know who actually likes Soni Ani Super Sonico: The Animation. I don't need depth, especially if the anime is only tolerable once I look into the DEEP SYMBOLISM BRUH indtead of trying to appreciate it for a work of entertainment for for a narrative on the surface, because that's when we get things like FLCL, a show that I hate. I just want an anime to justify its existence, to try to entertain and showcase competence. As much as I dislike The Asterisk War, I'd marathon both seasons of that twice over before watching an episode of Smartphone. I'd rather watch Eromanga Sensei, Akashic Records, Re:Zero, you name it! This anime, beyond the tacky Smartphone premise and even tackier selfie cover, offers nothing that I could find an infinitely better version of in its context temporaries, and that's because it doesn't try to stand out or entertain.

You want casual entertainment, that's ok. I do too sometimes. But there are so many better options out there that try to tell a coherent story, try to have a diverse cast of characters (or archetypes), try to give you something good to listen to while you're watching something passively or intensely, and give you something pretty to look at. I only need these 4 things to enjoy something; depth is the icing on the cake that carries it to being fantastic in my eyes, but not every anime has to drive to be the best, every anime just needs to try to do well st what it set or to do, and you know, set out to do something such as entertain. I think I've harped on that point enough and explained why I find nothing of value in this anime.

A review is based on your personal opinion and view on the anime. I simply shared my take on it. I never stated the review I made was the most serious review or the best review I made. It’s simply me expressing how poorly executed the anime is overall. I don’t care about people opinion not because I’m cocky. It just simply won’t change the fact that, at the end of the day the anime was bad and I simply stated how I felt about it. It’s truly bad overall. Also, I never stated a plot has to be serious to be good. A plot has to be consistent and interesting to pull the viewer interest. There’s some plot that isn’t serious but it’s able to get a good score due to the fact that it was consistent enough to pull through. Look at One Punch Man as an example, it’s not something I personally liked watching but the plot stays true to its core and pull the plot in a satire way which became popular. That’s just how I view at it. I’m just a harsh critic when it comes to anime so don’t mind me.

Just because I didn’t make a review or say anything about other anime that’s op or one shot doesn’t mean it’s good. I don’t need to bring examples and I can def make so many reviews for anime like those in a heartbeat. Anime is just bad and I’m expressing myself. Tbh, I don’t want to be a dick and say this every time but I don’t really care about people hating on my review cause at the end I know that anime is trash.

To be fair, Rem does have a nice rack XD

Don't get me wrong, I do like characters like Rias, but I simply like the girls in my favorites more. And not just because of their looks, but personality and various other factors as well.

I didn't create the Berserk image sadly. It is an old Russian meme I stole from Knowyourmeme. I'm somewhat of a meme hipster and have an affection for obscure foreign memes that never made it to the English web. My tastes actually aren't THAT harsh or elitist typically. I give plenty of generous scores to series with tons of flaws as long as they also do something well to compensate.

Here is where I got the Berserk pic BTW : http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/%D0%BD%D0%B5%D1%82-no-poster

That's actually about 200 hours roughly? On average it takes 1-2 hours for me to make one depending on how much I actually want to say. I do also have a blog meant for easy organization for whoever wants to sift through the 200+ reviews, but I haven't really dedicated enough time to transfer and make the minute adjustments for the whole archive since each transfer takes roughly half an hour to do.

I'm glad it amused some people at least, even today. I still can't believe that's the top review for Eiken though. Since I'm not a great writer or anything so you'd think someone better would come along since it was 5 years ago.

Eh, though it might seem that way I don't really care about the numbers. I just kinda throw them around without much definition to them. Everyone has their own way of doing it.

I won't review Youjo Senki, but I can say for sure that it's a good, fun anime. I play it loudly because the sound effects are so damn good--although it's had a very shaky production, it's come through when it really counts imo. Probably gonna give it a light 7, since it's fun for what it is but there's not much else to say beyond that.

Well thats a nice way of putting it, Japanese politeness must have rubbed off on you, dear otaku, people here are a bit more direct in describing how they see me, besides mad genius has always been one of my favourite career options but it doesnt pay that well these days :D
MozillaFennekin Mar 29, 2017 5:53 AM
You could be right, I didn't think very much about the historical context of it. But, given how silly the anime got at times, it's a little difficult to take seriously anyway.

Also, I think critically about every anime, but it's not hard for me to enjoy something. At the top of my profile I have a tiered ranking of every anime I've seen, based on how much I actually enjoyed it, the lowest tier is the one with the fewest anime.

And if anything, 5.3 is normal. 5.5 is the midpoint between 1 and 10, so if I'm gonna use a 10-point scale, would it not make sense to have an average around that number?
retorica_t Mar 27, 2017 12:54 AM
Well, since it consists of such strict methods and in most pulp cases same character and hair models it could be as simple as generating characters using simple xml or html-type markup language once you get the engine. So everyone could do it heheh, as if we dont have enough crapz aleardy :D

other than that, cant stop progress, more than half the factories existed 50 years ago are halved or closed due to automation, maybe time to put our brain in a jar and wait for an emp to wipe out all electronics but that would mean OMG NO WI-FI :p
retorica_t Mar 18, 2017 9:35 PM
ummm .. i have no clue which one but .. thanks, i guess ? xD

That's fair enough, I suppose. I imagine we want different things from a review. Personally I read/watch reviews more after watching something, as a way to chew over what I've seen, as opposed to before watching, to decide what to see. Maybe it'd be a good idea to split reviews into those two different categories.

Thanks for the feedback, anyway.

It's hard to say in a really concise way why I hate all of those series. But I have fully written out reviews for each and every one of those series somewhere in the plethora of 200+ reviews that I've written on this site. If you're willing, you can probably find them really easy and understand why I loathe each and every one of them so much.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
