So, I usually am a big fan of action anime. I don't care about plot or characters so much as there is decent fight scenes. This anime definitely has that, and it balances that with comedy as well. I know I sound like I'm about to give this anime a great review, despite me giving it a 3/10, but despite the action being good, despite there being tangible comedic relief, there comes a point where it is necessary to have good characters and plot. I was going to give it a 5, but I had to drop it because it got to a point
...
where it became physically impossible to continue watching it. And I absolutely hate dropping anime.
There comes a point where it isn't just about bomb action scenes balanced with comedy, it's about good plot, good characters. The kind of shit that leaves you begging for more after an episode is over. And unfortunately to say, Divine Gate just doesn't do that for me, which is why I'm giving it a low score, despite its great action scenes and comedy.
The plot is convulsed, nothing makes sense. The characters are interesting; the potential is there for a great story, but the opportunity was missed. Perhaps because it's based off a game for cell phones idk, but the missed potential is definitely disappointing for sure, and that, if anything, is why this is getting a 5 out of 10.
I really tried to enjoy it; I did. Fuck I mean...the action is to die for, the characters have to die for potential--especially Arthur, but it just...didn't pan out.... It's just disappointing. I thought this anime would be like Scryed where the plot details are given less stress as opposed to the action scenes, but not so much that they don't leave the audience not begging for more after an episode, but nope. It's like they weren't even trying to make this good.
I mean really, how you gonna hire big name VAs like Akira Ishida and Kanae Itou for a half assed, half baked, sorry excuse for an anime like this?? It's just inexcusable. For anyone to even put this shit on national television is just inexcusable, and if I was looking for a writer for an anime, I would never hire the MF who wrote this crap.
Phew okay, so I hate it more than I thought I did LOL. Anywho, in its defense the art is A M A Z I N G. The coloring is PERFECTION <3 I mean visually this anime is honestly an orgasm as far as looking at the characters and their weapons, etc. But that's just not enough. God I wish it was enough. I mean Jesus I was rooting for this anime more than anyone because I'm the type of guy who always roots for the underdog. But fuck, they literally make it impossible for me to like any aspect of it, other than maybe the art. Even with the bomb ass art, everything else about the anime is so bad that it makes even that one thing that's actually remotely good about it irrelevant.

Okay, so I don't usually go for anime like Durarara, and when t first attempted to watch it in 2014, I was...well, disgusted.. I thought it was just gonna be a boring slice of life anime with a slow moving plot, but I couldn't have been further from wrong. I think I was just too immature to appreciate the beauty in shows like DRRR, and that's okay since now I am and I can honestly say that Durarara not only met my expectations but it exceeded them to the nth fucking degree.
The reason I even decided to watch DRRR to begin with is because I
...
got sick of the usual action plot anime/jdramas where some evil entity wants to destroy the Earth/kill everyone/do something really fucked up, and then these guys with superpowers show up to stop them. I mean, I still enjoy shows like that, but I've been watching shows like that since I was 4...I needed a change in pace, and so that's what led me to watching DRRR.
Anyways yeah, long story short, I was dead fucking wrong about this show, and I don't regret watching it at all.
First of all, the story is fucking amazing. I mean, it seems like it'll be a boring ass, slow paced anime at first, but within like 3 to 4 episodes, we meet people like Shizuo and Izaya and Kishitani and Celty and it just morphs into this action-pakced show. It's really amazing how they made it work that way. Is DRRR usually the kind of action anime I would go for? No. Do I think it should be associated with Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, DB, etc.? No, and the people who do that are delusional (no offense).
Comparing Naruto to DRRR and saying they're similar is like comparing the sun to the moon. They're both celestial entities but other than that there's nothing else that they share in common. Also another thing, why do so many people like Izaya? The guy is a bonafide asshole. Like I can understand people liking Yagami from Death Note, but Izaya...how can so many people like someone who enjoys fucking other people's lives up?
Which brings me to the topic of the characters...well I already discussed that a couple paragraphs before this one, but I'd just like to say Shizuo is probably my favorite. Anyways DRRR is freaking amazing and anyone wanting to get into it shouldn't make the same mistake I did and judge it by the first episode. It really picks up steam in episode 3; now I usually hate anime where I gotta wait for the anime to get good, but DRRR was worth it, and I highly recommend it to anyone contemplating watching.
You'll laugh and maybe even cry at this amazing modern epic.

!THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Cowboy Bebop is the first anime that I've watched from start to finish that didn't leave me with a, "OMG THAT WAS SO FCKUING GOOD SFETGSTIOERLF" feeling. It's not that I didn't like it, I mean obviously since I watched the entire thing, but the story left me a little...unsatisfied tbh. Idk betweenn Faye who was annoying as fuck (except in the last episode) and all this other shit that happened, I expected so much but was left with so little really. I can see why it's managed to stay in the top 30 for so long, but it just wasn't for
...
me. But it was good, but Idk. If the story had managed to end in a slightly positive light whilst at the same time making Faye less annoying over time, I would've liked it more, but it sucked in regards of story and character. The only character who was introduced that didn't annoy me was Ed. I liked her so much I made my first gifset in awhile out of her (if you wanna see then here https://animeesthetic.tumblr.com/post/162791514595)
As for the music and art, well the art was good. And the music inspired the material for my 4th Nocturne (I' m a composer), which is why I'm giving this anime a 9.While the music was good enough to inspire me, the characters and their development over the course of the show was heavily lacking and the story was a little bit too downtrodden (although tbh I expected Spike to die in the end), but it wasn't enough to kill my overall enjoyment thanks to the music and Ed. So yeah.

Typically, I tend to dislike animes that end in the way YuGiOh ended, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything was very well put together and thought out - the plot, the characters, the art, and the dubs was actually remotely decent. I have never thought of calling an anime flawless before, but YuGiOh might be the first show I label as such. It really was that damn good. For a card game with rules that were all thought of on the fly by the author, it all seems very well thought out and equally well executed. Kazuki really outdid himself with this one. 10/10

[NOTE: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS! READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION!]
All I have to say about this anime is wow. Like the top reviewer of this anime, I thought, 'How could there be 75 episodes about a 12 year old boy playing a 3000+ year old board game?' But this anime thoroughly and utterly shocked and amazed me from beginning to end. If you're skeptical about watching this anime, please God, do not judge a book by its cover like I did. I held off watching it for so long because I thought it would be boring, but I ended up watching it in 6
...
days (its summer break rn so don't judge me).
Okay, so the story. As it goes on, it becomes a lot more dramatic and intense. Not just the games and the stakes and the rivalaries; I'm particularly talking about Hikaru and Sai's relationship with each other. I don't know how to say it, but like, the arc where Sai disappears really fucking surprised me. More than surprised me, it made me really sad. Like, I always knew Sai would leave at some point, but I'm sure you or anyone else will feel the same.
I always felt worried that something would happen, and when he left it really killed me. Basically, the story is really emotional and intense. Especially towards the end; depending on how you feel about Hikaru and Sai, you'll probably find yourself crying, maybe more than once.
The character development is interesting to say the least. I think they could've focused on the Touya and their allies' development a little bit more, but the development shown between Sai and Hikaru was enough for me. That and they weren't necessarily antagonists, so that was a plus I guess.
The art is fine except for Sai having lipstick (he doesn't have that in the manga, although he's very feminine in both. I feel like they went too far in making Sai feminine). The music was superb, except for the Chopin Nocturne they played in the last episode (asshats); it intensified how I felt about the events that occurred. I think what really shocked me was the ending. This is the first anime that was so good that I bothered watching the ending where they play the theme song and shit until the end and stuff. It was that damn good.
Overall, I really don't understand how such a brilliant show has stayed in the dark for so long. I think more people ought to watch HnG. It's not just people playing some boring ass board game. It's a lot more than that; a lot more. The pain and sadness I felt when Sai disappeared was worth it because in the end Sai never left Hikaru. He will always be with him in his games. Hikaru is Sai; like, what more could you possibly ask for from a plot?
Anyways I'm done. Again, don't judge a book by its cover and if you are hesitant in watching this show, then don't be. It's worth taking a chance on it, and I certainly don't regret it.

The anime started to get out of context after episode 80 so I started reading the manga. A thousand times better tbh. I didn't realize it was Anzai who wrote MAR until after I finished it, and he just so happened to have been the same guy who wrote Rekka no Honoo. Which explains why Dorothy was able to be badass without being annoying, it explains the amazing art style, etc. There isn't much to say besides I really enjoyed this manga and I hope Anzai keeps writing good shit.
Like yeah, the story is generic, but he makes it in a way that it isn't
...
so generic. Like, it's actually enjoyable and gets unpredictable at times (and we get some nice fan service too (*cough* see Dorothy vs. Chimera *cough*). The art of course was amazing (that hair over one eye style :3 ) and the characters are great.

I was skeptical to watch this since the majority of people who recommended me this anime are huge Durarara! fans, and I hated Durarara! personally, but I'm pleasantly surprised with Bacanno!. Unlike Durarara!, it gets straight to the point, has hilarious characters and bomb ass action scenes. I only wish it had more episodes (yes im one of those trashy ong ass shounen stans. fite me bish). Anyways, the art is good, a little too good tbh. Those gore scenes were and the blood were on point. The sound is good. The characters were honestly all awesome. Like I would put them all on my
...
fave list if I could but I'll prolly just settle for putting it on my fave anime list maybe. The story is good; ends on a good note despite those moments wen for sure i thought someone would die. Overall, it's pretty damn good. Short, but good.

If you're a fighting, superpower anime connoisseur like me, then even if you've never watched this anime before, you've probably heard about it a crapload of times. It took me awhile to get into this anime; I've been into anime for at least 4 years now, and only decided to get into DB this year. I was really excited, but as I got more and more into it, I felt more and more disappointed. The Cell Arc is what led me to the decision to drop this anime completely, which I'll explain below. This review has spoilers by the way, so please don't read beyond
...
the next paragraph if you don't want to be spoiled. Although knowing this fandom, I'm sure you've been spoiled about it too like I have.
Anyways, to be quite honest, mostly everything in DBZ plot wise was just one ass pull followed by another ass pull. Goku is the main star of the show, yet he's completely overshadowed by his son, Son Gohan. I tried to put up with it, since Goku was clearly much stronger than him after the Freiza Arc, having been the first to attain Super Saiyan mode, but he ends up outdoing him after that. But that isn't what pisses me off; actually I came to appreciate Gohan as the show went on.
What pisses me off is what happens in the Cell Arc. First, Trunks comes from the future to tell them about the Artificial Humans. This isn't what bothers me btw; in fact I'm perfectly fine with it. What makes this an ass pull is that Trunks reveals he's Bulma and Vegeta's kid. Like??? It's too fucking early for that...I was hoping after I'd gotten spoiled by other anime fans I'd met who happened to be huge DB fans...like I said, I'm a superpower fighting anime connoisseur.
That being said...or reiterated; take your pick, I have a lot of connections to people of the same interests. And most of those people are huge DB fans. The reason I've hesitated to get into this anime for so long even though it fits all my criteria is because I've been spoiled so much about it that I figured what's the point of watching this show? I already knew so much about it thanks to other people...but anyway, as I was saying I was hoping after I'd gotten spoiled by DB fans that maybe Toriyama might take it slow and gradually reveal their interest in each other, but no.
Shortly after Freiza's defeated, literally for a few episodes those two interact and the next thing we know Bulma and Yamucha break up and Bulma's literally all like, "So I fucked Vegata and this is our kid...." Like? What? The? Fuck? That's exactly the reason I didn't want to get into this anime to begin with?? And when he revealed that he was their kid to Goku I wanted to drop it right there but I decided to keep watching, since I knew it could be much worse.
It didn't bother me that Goku was going to leave defeating Cell to Gohan; what bothered me was that he was going to stay in the Next World and not for like a short period of time like he did in the Saiyan Arc. Had it been like that I wouldn't have minded; I decided to do some research and found out that even more asspulls laid in wait. The bitch stays dead for seven years, come back for some shitty tournament for like a day, then goes back to being dead again. The entire fucking thing made me want to fucking punch the walls in my room (which would probably break it because this house is so fucking cheap, but anyways. Irrelo and not hilarious side comment is irrelo and not hilarious).
Again, Goku is the star of the show. Like you can't expect me to continue watching this after he's dead for 7 freaking years and comes back like nothing happen. Not to mention Goten coming into existence just like that makes no sense at all. How and when did Chichi and Goku even find the time to fuck? I mean really...Toriyama could've at least made Chichi seem like she was pregnant, but he didn't. Also the fact that Gohan grew up so fucking much after the Cell Arc and even has a girlfriend without literally any explanation or anything leading up to it didn't help at all.
Anyways, I couldn't take it and so I decided to drop this anime. There's probably not anymore superpower fighting anime that I could watch now - at least, not any decent ones. I feel like I've seen it all at this point. But I've never felt more disappointed in an anime like I have in Dragon Ball. The entire thing just crashed and burned with the Cell Arc all because Toriyama revealed too much and explained too little all at once. Like when Goku grew up in the Piccolo Jr Arc and shit w/o an explanation, it didn't bother me because it wasn't that big of a deal. Plus it was about damn time he grew an inch or two, or several, and for what it was worth the events had already been clearly laid out. But the way he handled the Cell Arc and the beginning of the Majinn Buu Saga was rushed as hell to the point where it didn't even make any damn sense.
I partly blame this fandom for spoiling the fuck out of me on this anime for my decision to drop the anime. If I hadn't been spoiled, I would've followed along no big deal prolly, but because I was spoiled, I began to expect shit to go a certain way because of the spoilers given to me in the past. If you're going to get into this anime and you've been spoiled a lot on it like me, then don't expect it to go a certain way, take it all at face value, and don't get attached. All I'll say.

This review is going to be very short and concise, so I suggest anyone wanting to give this a shot should consider reading my review. The rest of my review after the paragraph after this sentence goes a bit more into detail, so whether you choose to read it or not is up to your discretion. Again, I suggest anyone wanting to read this to check out this review.
Imagine a car driving up a hill. The only way up this hill is a very steep and treacherous one way slope. Just when that car is about to climb up to the peak, like literally just
...
when it happens, it stops. That's right, it completely stops functioning. The engine goes off, the headlights stop beaming, and it does a completely nose dive backwards into the ravine and causes a big ass explosion.
That's this manga tbh.
Hao is still the same person he was when he first debuted. He's still that dude who wants to annihalate all the humans who don't believe in shamanism, and he gets little character development at all, even after making peace with his Mom, which was the source of the reason why he was doing what he was doing.
It'd be one thing if he'd change a bit, but nope. He's still the same. It's like Hiroyuki's message was that nothing will ever change. Which it most likely was, and that's why I can't accept it or how it ended. For a manga that wasn't as long as the Big Three (in manga and perhaps animu as well) but still managed to sell more/outclass/rival the Big Three, the way it ended was just all around bad to me.
So yeah, I wouldn't recommend this manga to anyone, but don't take what I'm saying to heart as this is just my opinion.

I think this anime has completely ruined the concept of anime and the enjoyment of anime tbh. After watching this, I'll never watch an anime based off a manga again, bar a select few. If you are interested in this series, then do yourself a solid and read the manga. The anime will give you a false idea of the events that go on in the show when the gang begin their journey to Murica.
Anyway though,
Story:
The story is pretty decent. I didn't dislike it, although I'd say my main problem with the anime is that there is too much story and it sometimes overlaps how
...
much action we get, and its really annoying.
Art:
The art is decent, though the manga has that flair to it that makes it better than the anime tbh. Though art isn't even really that much of a huge factor for me in determining the worth of anime though tbf. Several other factors come into play as well.
Sound:
Same as art. Its a minor factor for me unless its really shitty like Tokyo Underground. If V.As count though, omg, perfect. Hao's VA is so sexy tbh *drools*.
Character:
Characters are awesome here. You can tell Hiroyuki knows a thing or two about astrology. Hao's first opponents (like formally in the arena and all) was an X-Shit unit, and they were all air signs.
Then there's the first main characters introduced to the show who were all earth signs.
Yoh: Taurus
Manta: Virgo
Ren: Capricorn (props to Takei for making him a Cap, lol).
The other mains, Chocolove and HoroHoro, however, are both a fire and air sign respectively. Chocolove being a Libra and HoroHoro being a Saggitarius. I'm convinced Ryu is a Sag/Cap cusp (it would explain why he's such a flirt but at the same time gets so depressed at times.
Anna is likely a Scorpio and Lyserg is probs a Cancer. Oh, and the X-Laws main commanding officers are all water signs as well.
Marco: Scorpio
Lyserg: Cancer
Jeanne: Pisces.
Idk why, but I sense a pattern going on, but eh.
Anyway, that aside, characters are good.
Overall Enjoyment:
Unfortunately, despite the good characterization and story, it doesn't excuse the anime going on even though Terebi Tokyo never planned on finishing this show from start to finish. So yeah, I'm giving it a 5.
Again, READ THE MANGA if you are interested.
