Both attempt at being a down to Earth real robot type of mecha title that focuses more on the everyday life and issues at work of the characters than the mecha fights, which in turn are against monsters with a natural source for their formation. Also, new members and rival companies (actually the army in Dai-Guard) become an issue at some point in both series.

Good Night World

Although .hack//Sign it's more of a slow slice of life and coming of age series with some mystery, while Good Night World is a fast adventure that turns into a psychological sci-fi thriller mid way, in half the length of the other, they share: -Broken people trying to connect with others through a videogame, something that they couldn’t do in the real world with their real families, more so in Good Night World. -Similar head sets, though smaller and more advanced in Good Night World. -An advanced AI going crazy and affecting the real world and people, more so in Good Night World. -A dead girl resurrected in a way, in the form of an AI, and being hidden in a game as one of its main objectives and reasons for its existence. -A girl falling in love with the protagonist and trying to reconnect him with reality. -Anti-escapism messages

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

This movie is a lesser Shouwa Genroku in my eyes, it is also about an artist struggling to deliver his art to people in an era where some are still reluctant to the upcoming modernization in Japan, but Nitaboh can't put up a fight against Rakugo in terms of characterization, thematic richness and directing. Nonetheless, if you liked that show, this is worthy to check out because it will give you the same things you liked about it in a small dosis.

Although their premises and plot progression are completely different, they're both stories set in a medieval fantasy setting filled with armies battling each other, lots of violence and death, super powers or magic, romance between two enemies and political overtones. So if you liked one you would probably like the other. With that said, I have to make clear that Grancrest Senki is more focused on politics so it might get a little harder to get into. If you happened to watch and like both of these series, I suggest you watch Windaria.

Akame ga Kill!

Although they have completely different premises, Akame ga Kill and Windaria share a few elements, such as: -Medieval setting. -Two armies fighting each other, from the same kingdom in Akame ga Kill and from two different ones in Windaria. -Lots of death and gore. -Tragic romances between enemies. -Rather tragic endings. But I'd say that Windaria is better because, unlike Akame ga Kill, it does not suffer of mood whiplash, it remains a serious and tragic war drama from beginning to end and never throws in off-putting comedy in the middle of its tragic moments like the other anime.
