Controversy over Description of Adult Games in OreImo Episode 1

Anime column writer Maeda Hisashi criticized the episode 1 of Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai that the characters under 18 were described to have purchased adult games. Popular adult game producers such as Overflow, feng, UNiSONSHIFT were credited as cooperators for permitting the use the package images of their games. Maeda apprehends that the anime would provide the police and the anti-adult game public with a good excuse for imposing tighter regulations.

In Japan, a local ordinance prohibits minors under 18 from buying adult games.

next thing you know they'll be all over hentai artists for putting child-like characters in them...i remember when i played MY first eroge. i was 9, and didn't know Japanese (not that that really mattered, for my intents >:)

OreImo isn't even that bad! Wait, scratch that, OreImo isn't even bad enough to be considered ecchi (at least yet). Why the hell are they complaining? I cannot count the amount of times I've seen anime guy characters having porn mags hidden somewhere in their rooms, many of them high school students. Why does no one bitch about these portrayals?

Also, in Mitsudomoe, Futaba and Hitoha always had porn in their poession, especially Hitoha since she's usually is reading from one (in class nonethless). No one gave a care about two elementary aged girls having them. Also, the humor was raunchier on an epic scale than OreImo. Honestly get a grip Japan, worry about the real stuff not the 2D content.

I've only started watching the anime (5 eps to be exact), and couldn't help LOLing at the stupidity of the columnist. I've seen nothing so far to warrant so much attention. A 14 year old girl having eroge? Weird, but the way show has gone about it doesn't seem to warrant it. I was wondering when someone was going to mention Mitsudomoe, now, that's a show that should've been flagged up; can't wait for the seconde series of it. Who knows of an 11 year old who has boob-shaped pillow? I certainly haven't!

I can never understand these people. So many stupid things to worry about in anime and manga and they complain about underaged kids buying adult games.

Sure someone's going to argue that this teaches kids the wrong things, but last I checked no one's giving a flying fish about Kodomo no Jikan

Never seen Kodomo no Jikan, but read the synopsis and thought WTH.

It isn't the depiction of porn that's the problem, but the use of real-life game brands and titles.

Basically, the original light novel author is interpreting this as an irresponsible advertising ploy by adult game makers. He believes that they're openly endorsing underage consumption of their games (which might generate controversy and provoke governments into regulating content) when the correct action would be to ensure that the products are marketed purely at adults.

On the other hand, the adult game makers are now claiming that the anime company lied to them about how their brands would be used (i.e. they'll never work with the anime company again, etc.)......that they were equally shocked to see their games depicted.

In short, there's no actual controversy.......just a bunch of companies and authors trying to protect their own interests.

Now that you put it that way... fail, on everyone's part. Seriously, I'm starting to think they are all attention whores.

In other words, they are just so scared of controversy that they've already even prepared a scapegoat. I guess the anime company will just have to use pseudo-real eroge as they ussually do in this cases. Besides, kind of hypocritical of the light novel author. First you write a story in which you knowingly had minors buying and playing eroge then now that it's suddenly a tv show it's a no-no subject? Does the fact that the eroge is fake or not even matter much to the watchers? Anyone who was gonna buy it will buy it. Seems to me everyone trying to jump the boat is just overreacting and way too worried about their own butts.

I just have to say LOL. What about all the kids playing the CoD, CS, and other stupid shooting games? I mean come on. -.- It's fucking ANIME sex. Nothing bad to begin with.

Oct 7, 2010 1:55 AM by Raph95

...

Their kids are getting into sexual relationships much earlier than 18 years old, they should be worrying about that (REALITY) than something in an Anime (NOT REAL). Their priorities are all WRONG!

Oct 7, 2010 1:49 AM by Huild

So....imposing restrictions on selling animated porn games is a BAD thing?

Not these days but at first it was heavily criticized due to the content, these days a casual anime fan or full fledged otaku is required to have tolerance of lolis, shotas, and underage characters playing eroge games and liking hentai. DoubleDango what you say is pretty much the truth as most eroge and even H-sites have a disclaimer that all characters depicted are 18.

School Days teaches kids the right thing: must have protected sexual intercourse , it's usually better to stay faithful and when you're a high-school student; it's usually best not to have your whole class as sex-buddies (but having a goal of having 100 of them like in B Gata H Kei is alright).

Though, most publishing companies usually put up a 'Every characther in this fictional story is above 21; this also applies to characthers of whose age is mentioned otherwise.' in order to stay safe when dealing with underage social and ethical issues.

Can't really argue with this...it's true.
You can argue with the fact Ore no Imouto is not the first show to have underage characters playing eroge and it's not even a primetime show per-se, it's hidden in the wee late hours of the night when all those kids should be asleep anyway.
I think it's true for all of those types of shows...but I'm not saying I actually care about the concerns coming from this person towards this show, or any other show they might pick on.

Oct 6, 2010 12:35 AM by saxophone15

Wait wait wait? they are complaining about this now? I've seen minors playing hentai games or watching porn as long as I can remember in anime.

Also she could have just ordered them off the internet, When I was 14, I used to buy Henati Dvds all the time. It's not hard.
