SHAFT really is a black horse in term animation during the past couple of years.

Whether they finished animating or not, it doesn't change the fact that SHAFT has full of budget right now, which means we can expect some 'full quality' animation for other animes.

SHAFT shows have been exceedingly successful for the past few years. Because of their popularity with otaku, they're one of the few studios that can crank out a 4000-10,000 copy seller (per volume) almost every time they release something.

It's just that for whatever reason, SHAFT does everything fast and cheap, either by outsourcing work all over the world or by scheduling everything at the last minute (an alleged ex-animator vented his frustration with the company online; apparently, the conditions before broadcast are especially brutal when compared to other studios). Whether the company rolls more of the profit into future projects remains up in the air, but it isn't like they've been hurting for cash. Someone's making a lot of money, and at the same time, they obviously have the time/budget to fix the DVD versions.

So yeah....I suspect that quality issues stem from the owners pocketing most of the profit and spending as little as possible on production/company expansion. Because of financial success, they take on as many projects as a large studio, but they've remained small the whole time.

that is because shaft doesn't animate everything to promote dvd sales. ..

And still, I liked Bakemonogatari's style a lot. Meh, they even changed all the airing schedules in order to make it as good as possible as they can.

Even if they did, it would have still sold well =P. Doesn't change the fact people like it.

This week's ranking seems to be people mainly stocking up on Christmas gifts, with all the box sets, western movies and Ghibli movies. I didn't know Clone Wars has such a following in Japan, Star Wars is universally loved eh?

Great, Bakemonogatari volume alone sold almost 70000 copies... xD Volume 2 will also hit 70000 in no time; killing K-On with a huge gap.

Hurray for teh shaft~~
