Synopsis

Mitsuha Miyamizu is a high school girl living in the countryside town of Itomori. She yearns for a life in Tokyo as she is sick of living in the countryside. At the same time, Taki Tachibana, a high school student, lives in Tokyo and has a great interest in architecture, aiming to become an urban planner in the near future.

One day, Mitsuha dreams of herself as a boy living a life in the dense capital, while Taki dreams of living as a girl in the rural town of Itomori. As time passes by, the two discover that these are not just dreams, but that they actually swap bodies upon falling asleep! Kimi no Na wa. revolves around Mitsuha and Taki as they experience the supernatural. With both of them working together to deal with the strange phenomenon, how will this impact their everyday life?

Wow! where do I start! This is the first anime series outside of Dragonball that I have ever watched. Some of my friends invited me over to the cinemas to watch this movie and I could safely say I am not dissapointed in the slightest. Everything in this anime was close to perfection as humanly possible. From the music to the art, to the character development, it was all as cohenrently done as possible. It's a nice manga, and that's all. It has the same simple but effective story written by Shinkai for the movie, with practically no additional moments. And the art of Ranmaru Kotone is pretty nice, but nothing compared with the stuning visuals of Shinkai's movie, which, let's be honest, carries the movie on it's shoulders. The story isn't that deep and emotional, and some plot points are poorly explained, especially in it's last third. Manga adaptations based to Shinkai Makoto's movies have been very rewarding and practically obligatory reads in the past. There where the movies have been simplistic feel-good experiences that are -arguably doing their job - but still aren't much more than pretty to look at, the manga alternatives have been pushing the characters and story much further: offering the real emotional content.
