Synopsis

In Shinjuku Kabukichou, the biggest sin town in Japan, there are two crazy guys. Ichi is a coward and a wimp, but once he breaks into tears, he turns into a human weapon. With great martial arts skill and a blade hidden in his boots, he butchers a bunch of enemies into mincemeat in the blink of an eye. His arch enemy is Kakihara, a yakuza boss who's tired of everything, including himself. Only when he pierces, cuts, and burns his own and other people's bodies does he feel that he is alive.

In 2001, Koroshiya 1 was adapted into a live-action film which was directed by Takashi Miike.

The series has been published in Spanish as Ichi the Killer by ECC Comics since February 20, 2015.

I already watched long time ago the live action adaptation by Takashi Miike (really recomended movie for anyone who is interested). I'm a big fan of Miike and I thought his adaptation was the interesting thing, not the original work itself. A few months before I realized Koroshiya 1 author was the one of Homunculous, I haven't read that one yet but I know it's a respected manga and so, so I decided to give it an oportunity.

The movie has some different aesthetic / style choices, but everything else was already in the manga, Miike did not expanded the original with his imagination but Koroshiya ...

If I wasn’t recommended this manga from a trusted friend I would not have given it a chance or endured so much just to finish this manga. In fact I kind of wish I hadn’t read it.

I feel like everyone who has a high review of this manga either lacks the intelligence to understand the distinction between true ero guro and something created solely to be edgy and offensive with no true purpose in its writing. This manga is interesting to say the least lol. if you want something with very crazy gore, very intense sexual assault scenes and a lot of content that's just plain hard to stomach then I'm sure you'll enjoy this. But honestly, it didn't seem worth the read in the end. The overall plot is definitely what kept me going, and it was pretty fun to see the main characters' motivations get revealed along with all the complicated dynamics everyone had with each other, and themselves.
