Grand Blue is a Japanese manga series written by Inoue Kenji and illustrated by Yoshioka Kimitake. It centers on the budding youthful drama of Iori Kitahara as he begins his university life living in his uncle's diving store "Grand Blue" near the coastal city of Izu.

I never really write reviews but i felt like i had to after reading this manga. It's honestly not only the best manga ive read, but one of the best forms of fiction ive consumed ever. The comedy isnt always PG, but at the same time its pretty friendly in a sense that i feel like im apart of their crew. The small sense of romance also is really nice, because im one who loves romance and would personally want more but its fine how it is, as long as it continues for a while though ill be fine. The best manga and anime make

I gotta say, I've never come across a manga or anime that made me laugh out loud almost every episode until I found this one. I think the biggest appeal of this manga lies in its successful character designs, as well as the exaggerated and hilarious expressions of the characters.
I initially thought this was just a manga about diving, but it's actually more about the daily life and love stories among the characters in the diving club. The overall style is very funny and you can easily immerse yourself in the whole plot, making it perfect for people who are new to Japanese manga. I ... Jun 21, 2019
THIS is a manga about diving.
Never have I read a manga that made me laugh so much as Grand Blue, every chapter this manga has, made me laugh like no other. The story is nothing special however the execution of it combined with the jokes makes the story infinitely more enjoyable and before long you'll start caring for these characters and enjoying the way they interact with each other. The art is another part that makes this manga special, at first you may think the faces are too simple and that its just your regular anime art style however its not, Grand blue has one of the ... Grand Blue is an absolute masterpiece.
Grand Blue is a drinki- I mean diving manga, a fact that the manga itself is constantly trying to convince you to no avail. In all seriousness, the premise behind diving is of little overall importance, other than giving an excuse for there the girls to wear swimsuits as often as possible. Though the premise itself is interchangeable, the characters are not. They are the heart and soul of this manga. You have the main character who seems like a classic slice of life protagonist, and at the very beginning (I mean the first 5 pages tops) fills the ... Nov 10, 2021
So Grand Blue Dreaming is basically a manga about diving, It is a comedy genre manga about a college student who starts living at his uncle's house/diving shop for college and ends up becoming a part of the diving club where he makes good friends and lives his dream college life.
I don't usually read comedy genre or rather I didn't actually explore the comedy genre much, The story is good throughout the manga but what makes it more funny are the characters, The characters are designed very well. Grand Blue is also about living in the moment, It implies that being happy doesn't really need ... Oct 25, 2021
Genuinely the funniest manga I have ever read. The authors comedic timing with both art and dialog is perfect. I don't laugh often when reading manga or comics but this series gets me every time. The series is worth reading for that alone but the characters are all likeable and the art is gorgeous, especially when it shows of the beauty of the ocean and all the marine life in it.
I'd happily reccomend this series to anyone, but it's a must read if you are someone who enjoyed Animal House, American Pie or any other series about college hijinks. My only complaint with it is ... Jun 30, 2021
By far the best comedy manga. I have read this like 5 times and it always makes me laugh. Its supposed to be about diving but thats sort of a sub plot, its actuallt about a bunch of guys getting hammered and doing dumb stuff. Great characters, great art and a ton of funny moments. Definitevely a 10. For some reason MAL wont let me write a shorter review so here is the script for the battle of mustafar:
From their cables, ANAKIN and OBI-WAN both spot something that causes them to stop fighting. The lava river ahead drops off in a tremendous lava fall. SNAPPING AND ... Jun 17, 2019
Grand Blue has so perfected the art of comedic timing, that I recommend it to anyone writing comedy to study it.
Initially skimming the panels and pages, I thought... mehh, it's so so... and it wasn't until my second try actually digesting the panels, was I enlightened. Grand Blue is hands down, first class in the genre of comedy. Admittedly though, there is a little of an adjustment period for people who are introverted because part of the comedy revolves around partying hard with alcohol, chasing after dates, and stereotypical college student goals, which as someone who prefers staying home and playing vidya games, is meh. When ... Jul 31, 2020
Comedy manga doesn't get any better than Grand Blue.
While following the insane college life of the main character and supporting cast through bizarre situations, you inevitably grow to love their personalities and interactions with each other. At its core, Grand Blue is a story about relationships and shines in dialogues and visual storytelling. The comedy, that at face value may seem simplistic, actually gets better and better the more you know the characters and style - think South Park minus the overly deep themes -, and is highlighted by the gorgeous art and superb facial expressions (seriously, Grand Blue is the king of funny faces). Oddly enough, ... Feb 8, 2023
Grand Blue is a manga about a freshman at Izu University named Iori Kitahara joining, initially against his will, his university’s diving club called Peek-a-Boo. The remainder of the story is about his experiences hanging out with and partying with the club, diving, trying to pick up girls, and occasionally his time at school.
The first half of Grand Blue is a slice of life with some romantic subtext. The second half so far is a slice of life with an extensive romantic plot that is still ongoing. Both halves are filled with nonsensical and exaggerated hijinks propelled by Iori and the other members of PAB. The ... Jan 29, 2020
It's not very common I find myself bursting out in laughter as I read page after page non stop. Love the terrifyingly goofy funny faces, heck even remembering it makes me laugh so much like rn. Art style is amazing & characters; enjoyment is bound. My only gripe is that the story is slow in terms of the romantic aspect. A while ago they announced the love ark and to my surprise there has been no development in relationships (apart from realising which female feels what towards whoever) which was a huge let down. Personally i really wanna see Lori and Chisa but so far,

It is a diving manga, only a diving manga, it shows all the all the various aspects of diving as well as
teaching u basic knowledge needed for diving very well. The illustrations of the ocean which is filled with tiny details of marine life is shown beautifully. Now you may be thinking well, this manga seems detail and very passionate about diving well it is, well along with being a laughter bomb which you wont be able to forget for a long, really fucking long time. The manga starts with a never ending laughter wet dream, and its never ending. Even if ... Sep 15, 2020
I watched the anime, and liked it enough to read the manga as well.
It should only be natural that for a comedy type of story, the anime and manga would give off different vibes, and different, they are. They ARE, overall, pretty similar, but just the format of manga makes it slightly different, and in this case, for the better. Honestly, Grand blue has some of cringe and ecchi moments sometimes, or just unfunny chapters. However, the pacing of the manga makes it so that you can skip it over more easily than the anime. The funny chapters of Grand Blue however, stay just as good ... Jan 4, 2021
Really funny story about a teenager who joined the diving club and starts to learn the joys of the world underwater.
Nah, just kidding. This premise is just a plot-point that comes up whenever the manga needs a story to follow. The real charm of this book is its comedy. These characters are all likable and a ton of fun to follow. The overly detailed artwork brings a tone of seriousness to the story that just makes all the jokes feel even more dramatic. I recommend reading the first three of four chapters and seeing if the humor appeals to your taste. Nov 8, 2021

10/10 manga with a 10/10 anime adaptation. Masterpiece even after waiting for hiatus to end. One of the only mangas and anime to make me cry out laughing. Love this manga so much.
It's one of those mangas that is just such a good read that you could easily binge it all in a short period of time. The story is just a nice slice of life comedy which has some wholesome and small emotional bits. The art looks beautiful and adds so much to the comedic aspect when the illustrator draws the characters' expressions. The characters are all unique and you can relate to at ... Feb 12, 2021
Look, this manga honestly is one of my favorites right now. The story is so great and it's funny as h*ll. The anime compared to the manga doesn't really level in terms of the story I guess.
The anime had some scenes that I wanted when reading the manga. It would have made the anime a little better. To be honest, though I'm going off memory. The manga of course a full 10/10 in my books. I just love comedy and this story has a ton of it. I really would read this online, but reading this physically just has a different feeling to it. ... Feb 8, 2022
This is a piece of art, great humor that really made me laugh out loud for like the first time in forever. Great manga that I honestly wish I could re-read for the first time!
The over the top exctrems with the amazingly matching art makes it unbeaten in the comedy section. My only thought is that the story in itself isn't that amazing, but the rest makes up for it so much that I do not even care about that lol. Overall a really great manga and I'd recommend everyone to at least give it at try, might not be your cup of soup, but then ... Mar 13, 2023
Very few manga have the gift of comedy gold that can bring you back time and time again, yet the humor is still as fresh, as powerful and as impactful since the first time. This manga has a masterful control to switch from humorous, to deep and thoughtful, all the way to introspective and moving at the drop of a hat and without missing a beat. The characters are well-written and likable, even in moments where they're completely the most unhinged and petty ass walking humans on earth ( Iori and his college friends, and also the teacher's assistant) when shown in moments where they
