There’s been an apocalypse. You can still summon your cuteness to do cute things, so when the horribleness hits, it’s even worse because, like, it’s cute and stuff, and horrible.

Notoriously known for their horror and zombie elements, both series appeals to a survival horror story. The main characters realizes that their lives are not normal after we see drastic events in the first few chapters. There is also a source of mystery regarding the origins of both series' storytelling. Both series consists a diverse character cast as we learn more about them as the story progresses.

school-live, or by the japanese name gakkougurashi! is a zombie one of those few real zombie apocalypse manga series, basically its just a bunch of cute high school girls surviving in their school. they eventually get brave enough to leave the school to face new dangers but in hope to keep surviving.

-It's all fun and games at school until something happens. -Don't be misguided by the cute cover of Gakkou Gurashi -Both horror and survival

When it comes to horror and mystery, Dolls Fall and Gakkou Gurashi has something that fits quite well into its category. Taking place in a modern setting with a group of characters, we find out just how complicated matters become when their dark story unfolds. Both series is known for its violence (more graphic in Dolls Fall) that chronicles the lives of a group of protagonists. Throughout both series, we see the horror that awaits in their paths.

Both manga show you something really sweet and innocent, but both titles hide something darker underneath their sugar coating.

Misleading covers, both feature cute girls trying to survive to a dangerous situation.

Plot twist at the end of the 1st chapter. The main character of Happy Sugar Life is very similar to a main character of Gakkougurashi! Both manga have the same ("heavy") atmosphere.

They have that moe, cutesy artstlye, but are more than that. They have a group of girls trying to survive a cruel reality, but try to struggle through and look for hope. For Madoka Magica, a messed up magical girl world, and for Gakkou Gurashi, a zombie apocalypse.

Both are very cute and wholesome at first glace, but then it comes down to a girl trying her best to survive something horrifying.

Cute girls do cute things in a world void of life and filled with monsters. Somewhat similar characters, not the same setting, but the characters do find themselves in similar situations.

had the same problem, though Gakkougurashi! had lot more plot, art, and more enjoyable for long ride, as it is still ongoing while i am made this recommendation.

Schoolchildren in an apocalypse in progress, while trying to maintain their school life.

Very similar in feel in both manga in the sense of the zombie apocalypse. Both manga feel extremely bleak, fighting hard to survive as all of society has crumbled. They differ from School-Live being a moe/light-hearted at times and I am a Hero being a more realistic and bonafide horror/survival manga.

Has a very similar psychological thriller vibe as the story progresses. Elements of mystery and subtle atmospheric changes as the story goes on.

Do you enjoy pain? Do you feel you need more despair in your life? Do you like to wait an entire month just to see your favorite characters suffer? Then these manga will fulfill all your masochistic desires. Join me and many other fans in crying in the corner of our rooms in fetal positions. Sobbing like a fucking baby guaranteed. Also they're really good manga.

For Fort of Apocalypse, it's zombie with madness, coming from reform school aka jail packing with zombie full of boys. For Gakkougurashi! it's real school packing with zombie, but had more slice of life and some heartwarming event full of girls. Both had their own type of Story, though basically it is boys/girls meet zombie.

If you love zombie apocalypse then you might like one of these stories. Both tell stories about students who wake up in a deserted town where the people have been turned into zombies. Gakkougurashi's art lean more to moe/cutesy artstyle, while Distant Sky has more realistic and eerie art.
