"Mars" is a manga series written by Fuyumi Soryo in 1996. The story starts out with the classic trope of good girl meets bad boy; the main character, Kira, is a quiet girl with a strong passion for art, while her love interest, Rei, is quite the opposite. He pulls girls left and right, and is often found roaming the streets on his motorcycle. While this initial synopsis might seem cliche and like it was pulled right out of Grease, the story turns into so much more. Readers will begin to learn about the characters' deep secrets filled with themes of suicide, sexual violence, murder, ...

I got so into the story that I finished it in one night, each of the fifteen volumes are very compelling and give the characters more and more depth.Throughout the story there are many plot twists, even though it does rely on more traditional shoujo tropes. I wish this manga was more known, even though I haven't heard the fandom really talk about it. I would highly recommend it, if you're looking for a beautifully well done and illustrated story. The only problem I had with it as a whole is the rushed feeling of the last couple chapters. 9/10.

My first review so here I go: I just happened to stumble upon Mars and I'm so glad I decided to read it.

Story: Really well done, I love the adding of psychological aspects into the story and the whole love story just really had a lot going on, the whole time I was rooting for Kira and Rei throughout the story; I really felt they were eant for each other. Although, it's a bit darker than most shoujo manga, it really had a great balance of tragic and happy things happening in their relationship. Plus I loved how they put in a lot of ...

i have first encountered this through watching its live action Taiwanese counter-part, and i loved it!!..although the love story is great it doesn't only focus on that. The characters grew as individuals and the conflict was well stirred up.

My heart was pounding and eyes were watering up as I read Mars by Fuyumi Soryo. I couldn't put it down and only got three hours of sleep that night... It's such a compelling manga.

The coupling of the outgoing playboy/bad boy and quiet, artistic girl is such a cliche but the story departs the shoujo stereotype of typical high school drama and love triangles, after the first few volumes. The story matures, personal traumas are unveiled and darker themes are explored. There's an unwavering sense of fear as the characters always feel like they're on the edge of death especially when there's a motorcycle ...

I liked this manga especially, actually it's the best manga I've ever read. It's very hard to read a whole bunch at a time though, the story plot is intense, dealing with morals, and of course, love. Though if your looking for a cute story like a naruto/sakura childish crush manga sor of thing, this isn't for you. great story. I highly recomend it. You can never tell whats going to happen next, but even though the story is complex, the writer (fuyumi) puts it in an easy sequence and format thats very easy to understand; and very friendly. I hope you will love it ...

Reading Mars feels like... being swept up in a hurricane of emotions. The story lures you in with the common trope of high school romance; popular bad boy meets extremely shy girl. Yet, there is a "grit" that makes Mars much more mature than most of the genre, without forgetting that the leads are still teens. I'll say it leans more toward psychological, coming-of-age drama with a complex love story. What I find to be the hidden theme of Mars is violence and the human instinct to hurt other is; how it affects the victim, but also warped a person deeply.

First off, Rei is ...

I've always been a sucker for romance. Maybe It's just that I enjoy watching fictional relationships progress throughout the series. This time I really wanted to read a longer oldie, which turned out to be quite good pick. Mars was hell of read and it's been a while since I was this invested to a manga that I couldn't stop reading. However, there was a lot of things too that I didn't enjoy in the manga.

Art:
I really loved the art. It really has a 90s shoujo manga vibes. Characters were done beautifully. I don't really have anything to complain about. However, this is only a ...

Mars was an enjoyment to read. The story was amizingly well written.

Mars is about a youn girl named Kira. Kira is a shy student who belives that all men are dirty. Thanks to that she stays away from her classmates, and hides in her art.
Then she meets Rei who is an arrogant, rebelliuos and violent playboy. They are the exact opposite and yet when she see Rei kiss a statue of Mars the fighting god she becomes a little brave and ask him to model for her. They hit of on a good start but then they get to know each others secrets and they ...

This was one of the very first Shoujo mangas I've read. At the time I was amazed by it since it was one of my first mangas. Now, older and have better resources/series to compare it to... meh. The premise was basic, and the main girl was annoying and overall a stereotypical heroine. The only saving grace would have to be Rei. His story and character development was fantastic. The carrying guilt between him and his brother, his dreams of becoming a racer, etc. It really blew me away. I agree with another user that this would be better as a drama rather than romance. ...

Mars is a manga that is rare nowadays. Heartfelt with raw emotions constantly running throughout the story, this manga will cut right to your core and bring out feelings of tenderness and poignancy with its subtle but powerful story. Trust me, if you're not looking for a cutesy, over the top, juvenile sort of manga, this is the one for you. Mars is painfully realistic with its complex characters and quiet, hopeful optimism. Although a tad melodramatic at times, it does an excellent job of connecting with the readers and making them feel wistful and nostalgic at its end. 10/10 would most definitely recommend. The ...

There are already a ton of revies about this, so ill keep this as short as possible. I was wandering around Mars since its been published in my country, however i avoided reading it when i was a teenager as at the time it wasnt my main interest. I had heard good and bad things about it, but i never really bothered.
Now roughly 15 years later, i am looking for good josei and come across this one again and i decide to give it a go.

Honestly, i didnt expect too much. I was pleasantly surprised however, (and ended up bingeing the whole ...

i came across this series cuz i saw a video where someone got the whole collection so I added it to my to-read list. I started it a few days ago and just finished it. holy shit that was a roller coaster I need therapy.

i thought it was just going to be a romance manga and there was romance but oh my fucking god, I could never have guessed what this series would entail. i thought it was going to pull a banana fish on me and i'd sob for 3 days but thankfully it didn't, but I'm still not ok LMAO.

[WORK AND AUTHOR] Mars is a manga of the drama and romance genre, written and drawn by the author Fuyumi Souryo, and which has fifty-nine chapters published from 1996 to 2000.
It is important to say that Souryo is a veteran manga artist who has published works since the 1980s and continues to be active today, with her most recent work: Cesare: Hakai no Souzousha, ending in 2021. She was also awarded the Shogakukan Manga Award for shōjo manga for Boyfriend, whose plot reminds me a bit of Mars (but haven't read it yet to confirm) in 1988.

[PLOT AND CONTEXT] What I mean by all this ...

STORY: 6
The manga starts off with the typical boy meets girl encounter. We are introduced to the main love interest Rei and the main character Kira. The best part of the story is the relationship and develops between these two characters. You really feel the since of love that the two shares between each other. However, the ridiculousness of the situations that occur frequently throughout the manga makes the story more akin to a soap opera than something more realistic. These situations slightly pulled me out of the story and made the overall score lower than what it could have been.

I really wished they ...
