This manga seems so unassuming with its rich boy/poor girl premise however, it turns out to be so much more than a cliché as the plot takes a turn into unexplored territory at the halfway mark. The story delves into something that's still taboo even in modern times. It's very refreshing especially for the genre. I think that's all I can say without spoiling anything. The romance between the two leads, Kanae and Haruki, is quite rushed. There's one particular gesture towards the end, that's supposed to come off as sweet but it really shouldn't...

Io Sakisaka wrote that she hopes this will make your heart flutter and for me, that was just the case. I felt my heart flutter a lot as I made my way through this sweet and tender story. Sakisaka does a great job depicting a quivering, hesitant first love. My heart was pounding and eyes were watering up as I read Mars by Fuyumi Soryo. I couldn't put it down and only got three hours of sleep that night... It's such a compelling manga.
The coupling of the outgoing playboy/bad boy and quiet, artistic girl is such a cliche but the story departs the shoujo stereotype of typical high school drama and love triangles, after the first few volumes. The story matures, personal traumas are unveiled and darker themes are explored.
