Synopsis

In a post-apocalyptic world where an environmental disaster led to the eruption of Mt. Fuji and the inundation of Yokohama, the age of humans is in its twilight. Alpha Hatsuseno is an android and the namesake of a small cafe outside Yokohama. As her owner is away on a trip indefinitely, she has been left responsible for running the cafe. Although she rarely gets any customers, Alpha remains outgoing and cheerful.

While Alpha awaits her owner's homecoming, she explores the vicinity with her scooter and camera. Throughout her journeys, she meets new people and other androids, making memories along the way.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is a beautiful, laid-back story centered around Alpha's daily activities, emphasizing the passing of time in everyday life.

A quaint town overlooks flooded valleys, calming beaches, and the light of drowned streetlamps sprouting from the ocean. The environment is apocalyptic, the inhabitants are few and far between, and yet the tone is overwhelmingly peaceful. Yokohama, in all its beauty, is an idealistic depiction of life in humanities twilight years.

Set from the perspective of an almost human android named Alpha, the story, through an episodic format, gradually questions what temporary life means through the lens of an unaging point of view. The manga is slow, but not without purpose. Each chapter depicts a different scene in Alpha's life; whether she’s contemplating with Gee-san, ...

Mixed Feelings
Manga for relaxation. Sometimes they try to sprinkle in philosophical thoughts in the plots, but they're so ephemeral. Moreover, these thoughts are just musings without any conclusion, as is often customary with the Japanese.

There are several storylines, and some simply exist and end up going nowhere. I don't like it when things like that happen.

Something close in spirit is the manga "Aria," and there, both the thoughts and the storylines are complete. It's better to read "Aria".

Writing about this work, or others like it, is quite difficult. It's a slice-of-life story that depicts the everyday life of a robot in this case. There's no ...

It's old, feels old, and in general, I don't think it was that good of a read. It's an iyashikei sort of chill slice of life manga, but honestly, many other series are much more successful.

For example: Non non Biyori focuses more on nature and the character relationships are very nice. Minami-kei has nice manzai and slice of life interactions. Barakamon also just has way more recognizable characters. Overall, it just feels like this manga has no niche that it fulfills.

There's a bit of slice of life, supernatural, a bit of sci-fi elements. There's coming of age elements in the form of our ...
