Just to put a short word in ~

IDK exactly whats going on, but it doesn't stop at 5 chapters and it has more than one volume.

Its kinda sad tho because the story is still going on and while they did make good progress when you get to the latest chapter you just want to read more but there is already little enough as is.

The story is decently paced and cute with the short read that it currently is but be warned it has no real "end".

If readers are interested in yuri/shoujo ai and have never read Poor Poor Lips then I recommend ... you read that one :P

A super pleasant read! Asagao to Kase-san is an excellent blend of conflict on romance, school, and expectations.

Story [7]

The story consists of Yamada, a shy, hesitant girl, confused with her emotions towards Kase, a "boyish" girl and star of the track team. It's more or less your standard love story, with misunderstandings and both characters just trying to see where they are in the relationship.

Art [8]

The art is nothing spectacular, but also does not disappoint. It does justice to each character, and you can really get a feel for what the manga is about from the soft lines ... and delicate features.

The characters themselves are somewhat standard, whether you're looking at it from a heterosexual or homosexual romance viewpoint.

You have the more dominant, experienced partner (Kase), and the innocent, "younger" partner (Yamada). While nothing gets too explicitly sexual, there are scenes where you can really see this dynamic come into play. Despite the yuri stereotypes, the mangaka does do a great job of having both girls still come into conflict with their relationship, and develop over time, leaving a bit of their overbearing personality traits behind to become better for one another.

Asagao to Kase-san is simply a cute, endearing read. I can not wait to see how everything goes once the entire series ends. There are sequel mangas after this, so if you're interested in pursuing the series, I do recommend those as well!

WARNINGS: Asagao to Kase-san does have mildly sexually suggestive scenes.

I think this type of manga is less heart-warming escapism and more of a mockery directed at how real life functions and how its relationships transpire. 99% of the miniscule issues are resolved exceptionally fast in this manga, with the resolution coming usually within the same chapter or next chapter, leaving no baggage into the next part of the story. It's just part of the reader's torture that comes with romance or 'cute' stories, which live in a world where the extent of someone's introspection or inner thoughts can be:

- wondering about someone else's relationship with them on a surface level of good/bad
- flailing around ... immersed in some kind of emotion
- flustered confusion

I'm sure most people would interpret this manga as just being a cute, shallow emotional pleasure escape from reality - as too much romance media is - and not even putting in the effort to be a romcom to add humour (the best shallow emotion). And unlike me, most people would be fine with that. It doesn't frame itself as any more, after all.

However, from my own perspective this is part of a tendency for society/media in general to frame all good things as unachievable, which they do by either sanitising them of bad/genuinely uncomfortable parts or putting in the bad parts to such an extent that it's a 'sad story' or can just be put under 'drama.' Drama here meaning it oscillates between 'good event' and 'bad event' until it resolves as one or the other. Sometimes they have a bittersweet ending, which I'm a fan of. I digress, this manga doesn't. Its purpose in my life is to mock me.

Cute girls eating cake in their bedroom and kissing each other - so cuuute! Now close your computer and think about what you did today.
Here's what I did: Woke up, ate breakfast, took my pills. Read a biology textbook for 30 minutes, read this manga. Fuck's sake. If I went to Okinawa I would probably feel the same.
