This manga was the first yuri I was able to find that didn't feel like it was trying to pander to males. It always feels so refreshing to see my sexuality portrayed as more than just a male fantasy. Not that I'm against it, but it's not in my interests whatsoever.
The characters are fun and lovable, the story is pretty much your basic sweet first romance story. It's very pure and the art and the way it is written makes if feel gentle the whole way. Not that it doesn't bring any emotions, but the whole reading feels velvety and comforting.

First of all, I think this manga is one of the best mangas in the yuri community, just because of the story and the enjoyment.

Girl Friends is one of my first Yuri mangas I ever read, so the following review will be slightly biased towards it's favour.
It's not perfect, there is a lot of girl talk about make up and clothes and during the first few chapters there is little development. Mari is ridiculously oblivious in various points, but I can forgive it for that. What makes Girl Friends great is the tension building between the two characters, the confusion with the lines between how you feel towards a friend and how you feel about someone you want as a partner, and the genuine love between them both ...

The manga is all about me. Nahh, just kidding. The story is about 2 girls best friends who fell inlove with each other. I'm not really into drama, but this one is different. If you're a yuri or shoujo ai lover you'll totally love this one! It's about mixed emotions. I bet many of readers kept reading it coz they can relate to it or it's just too damn good. For me it's kind of a slice of life or realistic. The scenes may actually happen in REAL LIFE. like my life(nevermind).

So I am a huge fan of yuri. If asked, I couldn’t explain it to you. There’s just this magnetic attraction in me to the two-girl relationship. If you've never read yuri, this the perfect story to start. At first you think that is going to be about a popular precocious girl seducing a shy, innocent girl... but it is not, in fact we get no yuri until almost halfway through the story and the way it happens is so natural but also a bit sad and surprising.
As expected from a Morinaga Milk Sensei story, character development is done extremely well and the pacing is excellent. There are some clichéd misunderstandings at some point, but they don't drag the story down. If you want to read a romance story where you ...

I enjoyed this one SO much! I saw (almost) every yuri-anime, so I was searching for some yuri manga. And this one was not the first, but it was one of the best I've ever read! It's cute and awesome, but the story was very slow. Even though, AWESOMENESS. Anyways *cough* if you like yuri/shoujo-ai manga, you should really check this one out. You will NOT regret it! :'D

This is really different and unique from other yuri and romance out there, give it a try!
The story and characters develop quickly and in a really original and sincere way. Half of the manga is told in the perspective of one girl discovering her feelings while the other half being the same story but in the other girl perspective which completely changes the way you see it at the end when both views are combined. Furthermore the character design is fresh and cute, with a good story structure and character development and all the happenings are really relatable while feeling natural. I do not often read often but after reading this I feel like I am going to have to read more. This was a truly fun experience the characters felt real and the story kept me interested throughout. Yes it was slow in parts and sometimes it felt rushed but these issues were minor and even sometimes made the story even better. I would recommend this to anyone and after I have finished reading some books I have started I am going to come back to this. My first encounter with this manga was when my class and I went to a book fair, and I promised myself I'll bring a yuri manga home (this was around the time my yuri craze started to kick in and I started to understand my own sexuality better). I wanted to get Citrus, but since they didn't have the first couple of volumes, I went with Girl Friends. At the time ,I found it pretty underwhelming and boring, never even finishing the one volume I bought.

I loved Girl Friends! It was refreshing to read a shoujo-ai manga that was very honest and realistic. All the characters are really lovable, and at times I found myself laughing out loud. It's also very contemporary, and paints a good picture of modern schoolgirls and their interests. It's not melodramatic, it's just a simple slice-of-life about falling in love for the first time. To me, it felt very personal and relevant. I recommend it to everyone, not just yuri or shoujo-ai readers.

Esse mangá foi uma grande surpresa pra mim já que estava afim de ler algo diferente e acabei comprando logo os 5 volumes de uma vez (não façam isso por favor), não esperava muita coisa, mas quando peguei o volume 1 e comecei a ler... quando vi eram 4:30 e eu já estava terminando o volume 3, fiquei tão imerso que nem vi as horas passarem.
