The story is about seperated siblings that try to get together after their parents pass away but it’s not that easy because they’ve been living in different places for years. So it is not much in the romance part and centers mostly on the family concept, meaning this was more slice of life than romance. I’m going to be real and not influence myself from other reviews. The truth is, I didn’t enjoy this as much as other people did. Mostly because it was too slow and I felt that the story is stagnant at times. The character development was well done since they showed ... the families get closer step by step. Expressing their feelings and facing one’s fears make a huge part of the story. The characters run away from their problems so the problems don’t get solved for a very long time. Everyone blamed themselves, they just can’t solve problems by talking it out so I couldn’t help but feel frustrated by this manga a lot. I dropped it two times before finishing it just because of the miscommunication and the stagnant, unprogressive storyline. It is also full of love triangles and makes drama out of it. It constantly gives the narrative of the character being a good-hearted person and would be good for them. I honestly couldn’t care less about the drama caused by the love triangles.

The art is cute. The scribble style in the characters’ eyes are unique. The body proportions were not my favorite since the face seemed bigger than the body. It also caught my attention that the art seemed to use 3/4 profile so much that in some parts it bothered me. Mao is supposed to be a 17 year old but the art made her look like 13 next to Hiro. Still, the art was great and suitable for the manga, the tones made a great contrast.

I recommend this if you don’t mind reading are very slow paced story which is mostly slice of life. I also don’t recommend it if you aren’t a fan of miscommunication or shoujo genre. Other than those, this might be the one for you if you want to see family bonds.

If you think shoujo manga isn't your thing, read Taiyou no Ie, House of the Sun. Taamo has taken a half dozen tropes common to the category and used it as a scaffolding to build a masterpiece of romance. The best manga give us themes that teach, inspire, comfort, and move the reader. The House of the Sun is a place where we enter alone, heartbroken, grieving, betrayed, and find a sanctuary where we are offered love, support, patience, and time.

Yes, there is a seven-year age gap between the main protagonists. Yes, young Mao is only 17 at the beginning of our story. But ... the age gap is handled perfectly, with taste and ethics, and a story that makes you believe in the pure love found in this magical place.

If you are tired of unwholesome behavior by drunken office workers, marital infidelity, the cruel lonliness of being a high school student, come to the House of the Sun, where Taamo's manga serves as a guidebook for good behavior, and how to build or repair relationships.

House of the Sun is not a manga about romance or high school drama. It is a story about home and family. Just as a house is not a home, marriage and children do not make a family. Both require hard work, time, patience, and a spirit of forgiveness. The author has given us a home and families to inspire us to work towards the same joy in our own lives. When my own home and family are in need of a little help, I return to the House of the Sun to find the safety and the inspiration that let Motomiya Mao and Nakamura Hiro move forward to build the family of their hearts' desire.

I dont know what came first, this or higehiro but I saw Higehiro first so I'm gna compare it to that. At first I had doubts about finishing this story because its kinda similar to higehiro (not that i hate higehiro but I mean I already read it so why would I want to read another manga thats basically the same thing). But I as I continued reading I realized, this isnt like higehiro this is what I wanted higehiro to be at that point I had a blast reading the chapters that followed. The story is such a rollercoaster of emotions, at one point ... you're feeling happy then just one panel after that you're feeling depressed. I love how it made me feel reading thru it. Overall enjoyment 10/10
