Welcome to The World, the most advanced online game ever created. In The World you can be anyone you want to be, act out your adventure fantasies and through teamwork and determination, you can even become a hero. 14-year-old twins Shugo and Rena just won a contest that lets them play as the legendary avatars 'Kite' and 'Black Rose.' Armed with the power of the Twilight Bracelet, the two must discover what is causing rogue monsters to infect The World and carry on the legend of the .hackers.
A lot of people seem to like this manga, but these are my honest opinions:
Very very bland. Nothing much happens, it's just about a group of friends trying to protect a little NPC with an uncanny resemblance to Aura. You have them going to different events and hanging around trying to solve the mystery (but if you watched SIGN or played the video games, this isn't much of a mystery). The big mystery of the NCP is a big disappointment as well (in my opinion of course). Again its just bland and unengaging. I had to force myself to finish the last volume.
It's cute, but not much else. Nothing really distinct about it. It has no personality at all. It's fine and it gets the job done, but it really isn't worthy of any praise in my opinion.
Most of the characters are fun to get to know. Each one has a distinct personality and everyone will probably find someone they enjoy. I found Zefie to be extremely annoying, Shugo was kind of dull, but the rest of the characters were enjoyable. Ouka, in particular, was a lot of fun when she wasn't hitting on Shugo. I found the obsession most of the female characters had with Shugo to be annoying as well. Even his sister had the hots for him (how original)!! I was very disappointed that .hack was turn into a harem-like manga, the franchise deserves better.
If you like the .hack franchise, you'll probably like this manga as well. But not always, I liked SIGN but I found this manga to be boring and dull. The story was not as griping as SIGN and the main characters (shugo, zefie, rena) were very shallow. Zefie in particular annoyed me to no end with her selfish attitude. I found this manga to be more of a harem romance then an adventure, which is disappointing given how wonderful the other .hack properties were. I can only recommend this to people who like very slow slice of life manga and/or harem romances.read more
This was, overall, a pretty enjoyable read. It was funny at all the right places, but without getting too cheesy.
Its weakest point is probably its plot. It’s very vague and doesn’t have any set goals. It also makes numerous references to previous instalments in the .hack franchise, so it can be a tad confusing if you haven’t watched .hack//SIGN or played the games. The conclusion is weak, and left me feeling mildly unsatisfied. But there is some intriguing mystery and interesting twists. However, on the other hand, vague unending plots are the very essence of MMORPGs.
The characters are great. The art is amazing, and as expected of .hack, the character designs are original, memorable, and fun. The characters all have interesting personalities, and there is considerable character development in the protagonist. Another character that really grows on you is Kamui. It’s a lot of fun to try to guess what the character’s IRL selves are like.
Legend of the Twilight brings you all the fun of MMORPGs in manga format. You can get immersed in it as if you were the one playing The World (and if they ever develop a game like that, I’m getting it). It’s a bit short, but I think the size is just right for such a plot. Worth every cent I paid for it. read more
I really enjoyed reading this manga, the plot is original and there are many different twists and turns to keep you hooked. The characters are easy to relate to and there are plenty of funny parts :) I loved the artwork in it and the costume designs for 'Black Rose' and 'Kite' are really colourful and unique.
The plot was a bit confusing at times, but it got easier to understand as it went on and the ending was great. It's funny, original and well worth reading!
Haven't seen the animé yet but am planning to watch it soon :)
.hack//Legend of the Twilight, the manga version, is one of the most amazing mangas I have read for a very long time! And I can compare with the anime version.
Early on, it matches the anime version but after Volume 1, the manga diverges away. And the story is amazing! I won't give away details, but it's definitely worth taking a look at, especially for .hack purists.
Character design and artwork was amazing! There are moments where the artwork turns comical (especially the pixelated moments) and it lends clarity and hilarity to those situations. Characterization was also a big plus as a the major players began to develop their strong growth over the course of three volumes.
The only gripe I have that it is relatively short. Other than that, it is amazing! I definitely enjoyed it!read more
