Art: 9/10: It's cool and gothic, honestly the only reason why anyone will stay to read this

Story: 1/10: Can't rant more about this. It started off with a pretty cool premise. Different mysteries and our main character trapped in a toilet, yeah?

The only problem is that our second main character has everything worked out for her. It's pretty much all your typical manga issues: everything being concluded with a simple swing of the knife, a single talk to from our second main character resolves the whole isssue that has been bothering our villains for a Long time, or coaxing enemies into submission; events conveniently happening ... whenever it suits the author, like if mc1 says not to let side character touch mc2, you know for sure mc2's gonna get touched for sure.

It's all very predictable with the Friend turned into enemy troupe, and enemies turned to friends, most ostensibly by the Mary Sue. Except, in this particular work, the coolest villains whose background story get explored immediately after their defeat will thereafter be flung into the abyss and be forgotten till the author decides to conveniently pop them up again.

Need I also tell you that (spoiler) mc2 gets turned into a fish whenever she touches water? The author conveniently skips all parts about how she bathes, and how she hides that from her parents. I know this whole story is supposed to focus heavily on the school setting, but it's almost as if this world is a vacuum where the only characters are our three mcs. Honestly, there's not an ounce of realism in this world at all.

Character: 1/10 I would give a 0 if that is possible.

Mc2 aka. The girl: can be summarized as lovesick fool, plus radish. Literally, when she goes into a hell where students are tormented by their innermost fear, hers shows up in the form of people calling her a radish. Seriously, does she not have other problems? The author brings the joke too far in terms of constantly reminding us she has oddly shaped feet, making every single character point that out upon meeting. Fun fact: she was only bullied for it in one panel, by that one minor character that showed up only on one page.

This character is unrealistic, stupidly naive, and you'll find everyone falling in love with her for no reason. She has your special Naturo speak no jutsu, except in most cases, you won't find her doing a single thing besides flailing, floundering, worrying needlessly till someone takes pity and treats her nicely. She is the whole flaw in this manga, because you'll find the author pulling every reason out of their ass to make the two other main characters fall in love with her. Absolutely horrendous.

Mc3: the student boy minamoto: believable. It's entirely refreshing how much he stands up for himself and others when the story decides to focus on him. That's a tell on how abused we are as readers, because we're constantly forced to view things from the pov of our pitiful useless mc2. His growth is the one thing that keeps me reading on.

Mc1 the ghost: the highlight of the show. Little titbits about his past keeps getting revealed along the way. Teasing and fun in a way that is not always harmless but completely intriguing, he is the saving grace up until you realise the author has decided to dedicate an entire arc to him playing martyr and playing the role of the villain just to save our useless ignorant mc2 again.

Honestly, let's just stop it with the whole mc2 thing already. I get how useless she is that she needs everyone to protect her, but honestly? This whole story is turning into a self-fulfilment fic where the mc2 self insert is trying to collect a harem of knights to protect her. Frankly, I'd enjoy it much more if the author starts being real and treats this story that way. That's clearly their drift.

Also, I'm not exactly sure on the genre of this manga. Is this romance? Is there supposed to be a love triangle between all the mc? Because with the way mc3's heart goes flying out whenever mc2 does something and mc1 plays the whole role of the darling knight for mc2, I find it dubious that this is even your friendship troupe. I dread the more I read, because this is clearly not the content I signed up for.

Also: misaki: honestly, what can I say? He's that one cockroach that refuses to die and the more he returns, the more he ruins the perfect character you wish the author had left dead in the beginning. Also, he's soft on mc2. Need I say more?

Overall, enjoyment: (0) 1/10. I read this because the anime will be coming in 2020, but I'm left wondering why I wasted my time.

I've never wrote a review before but oh boy is this a disaster
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun is a manga that looks really fun and has a quite unique style. I've been following this manga ever since it started yet it turned out to be a huge disappointment.

Story:
A story about urban legends in a school, interesting at first yet actually just a cliche plot. Most of the time the plot is just Nene getting rescued by her har-- friends. Super unrealistic and has tons of plot holes. This mangas only comedy source is Nene's legs. But pacing is the worst part here, it's been 64 chapters and ... we still have no idea about what is the relationship between Tsukasa and Amane (and no background of Amane either). So many useless drama that cames out of nowhere yet leaves an impact on characters (you know which I'm talking about).
I have no idea where author is going but I have no hope for it either. 3/10

Characters:
Oh god. Here we go.
You couldn't guess such a horrible mc for a manga like this. The whole personality of Nene is just how horny she is and how she has 'radish ankles'.
Can't do anything on her own and always gets in trouble and waits for help from Hanako. She put herself in danger multiple times to get her dreamy harem. A typical shoujo mc but worse.

I can't really say anything about Hanako because we never got any info about him really. A cool ghost boy with really good patience

Kou. Actually the only one that I can call a character.
His first debut was aggressive yet he quickly developed so much. A very nice boy that cares about his friends and tries his best.

Tsukasa gang is cool but sadly we don't know much about them for now.

Overall there are so much useless/cliche characters in this manga. 2/10

Art:
I think we all can agree that art is the best thing in this manga. While it's cute and original, it's also very detailed and nicely done. The whole reason I started reading this was the artwork and is the reason I haven't dropped it yet. 9/10

Enjoyment:
Well, I tried my best enjoying this manga because of how much I love how it looks- But it was impossible with such plot and mc. 1/10

Overall... 4/10 I can't give a lower point when Kou exists and I really like the artstyle.
This manga was a HUGE disappointment to me, like I said. I had very high expections and none of them were answered. Even so, I understand how this manga is really popular and loved, I'm just really salty :P

I tried my best to explain my views on Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun but I'm nowhere expert in English so I may have not convey my thoughts very well.

Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun is a manga that is beloved by a bunch of my friends in real life and online, so when I heard it was getting an anime in 2020, I let my curiosity get the better of me by reading it before seeing the adaptation itself.

Excuse me if the review is poorly written compared to my other ones, I just wrote this on the fly without preparing well like the others (since I wanted to avoid spoiling much detail to the story). These are just brief thoughts.

Story/Writing (2/10)

It is a very uninteresting story that felt shoddy in terms of consistency. There were a few ... plot conveniences that popped up as the story progressed, and the direction itself was pretty uninteresting too for me and in the end, feels like a dreadful waste of time.

The comedy was a big miss for me too. It had its cute moments, but there were a lot of awkward spots and unfunny jokes. The anklet stuff never got me one bit.

The pacing is fine, and I admire that there is an underlying narrative for this manga (which I expected no real story at the start). But, the actual story and execution of it left me severely underwhelmed and drained so far.

Characters (3/10)

The cast for this manga was pretty dull for the most part. Full of unlikable characters and forgettable characters too.

Art (9/10)

The story wasn't beautiful, but I'll admit that the art was.

The characters looked really well-drawn, with cute and charming designs mixed with a creepy atmosphere too surrounding them. It's very interesting.

Enjoyment (1.5/10)

I normally try and best not to go with expectations in mind whenever I see an anime or read a manga, but due to how much I've heard about how amazing it was, I couldn't resist.

And I'm more disappointed in myself, for letting them get to me than by the manga itself.

Due to my expectations, the lackluster experience of this manga stung me more than I wished. This manga started well but ended up being underwhelming and even full of issues itself when I caught up by the end.

Overall, it's a manga that I can see why many would love, and I could also see it receiving rave reviews for its anime adaptation in Winter 2020. But sadly, the manga could not capture my interest and I've lost a lot of hype that I initially had for the anime when the announcement came.

It's a shame, but the manga is just a major drag where the art is the only thing of positive value. And given how many manga out there have good art nowadays, having good art isn't enough to cut it. It's very easy to see manga with great art but it's the gems that have great storytelling and characters that are much more rare to find and much more lovable to cherish. This unfortunately not coming anywhere near close to that area. Very disappointed overall.

The quality of this manga is bound to end up in the toilet, as my time got flushed down reading this.

I fail to see why it matters that he's the 'hanako of the toilet'. Most of the scene don't even have anything to do with the toilet. He could be the Bethoven of the music room or Ninomiya Kinjiro statue for F sake it still do not affect the story whatsoever. His weapon of choice don't even related to toilet. Just imagine a boy in bethoven clothing wielding a knive fighting evil spirit, the story do not change much even if you change hanako with bethoven. Even when his past is revealed, there's really no strong connection of him being hanako. Considering he want to ... be a teacher, making him become a kinjiro statue would make a lot more sense IMO. This setting is really pointless.
The messy art do not help with the storytelling as it convey more comedic (ironically most of the jokes are not even funny) and romance tone than horror ambience. I enjoy seven school mysteries tropes since I was in grade school, the horror in part is always the main appeal even when it appeared in action or adventure manga. IMO, this series is a proof that using romance in seven school mysteries setting is a huge fail.
I just can no longer justify myself to read this any further after 3 volume. To put it simply it's just not for me.
