Alright, so I've been going thrifting A LOT recently and you know what? I'M GONNA MAKE A THREAD ABOUT IT, so anyways, people of mal, what are the coolest/rarest/most expensive/unique/amazing things you've just randomly found while thrifting.

Ok, so first of all WHOEVER DONATED THE INUYASHA POSTER TO MY LOCAL THRIFT STORE I LOVE YOU.

And second of all uhh, for some reason thrift stores in my area just seem to SEVERELY underprice consoles bc a while ago I found a silver ps2 slim for like $3.99 (canadian money btw) and a Xbox 360 Elite (basically the more expensive version of the xbox 360) for like $10 Canadian money too.

Also I'd like to thank thrift stores for allowing me to build like basically my entire cd collection of mostly grunge and alt rock typa stuff for like dirt cheap, LIKE DANG I FOUND A SEALED NIRVANA MTV UNPLUGGED CD FOR LIKE $2 A MONTH BACK.

Anyways what about y'alls thrifting finds, feel free to share or brag or whatever.

In terms of things you don't usually see in a thrift store, I once got a Fujifilm X-E2s for somewhere around $10-$15 (The mechanical shutter is slow, but the electronic shutter works just fine) at a Savers (BTW that's like a $700 camera body when it was new, and still goes for a good bit now), which with a cheapo adapter works well with my film camera lenses. Normally the store owners know that these things aren't worthless, but this particular Savers just threw it into a baggie and put it up on the nicknack wall with other house decorations, unaware that it actually worked.

Still gotta get the mechanical shutter fixed, but otherwise it stands as the most stark difference between online price versus what I paid.

WAIT DANG THAT'S ACTUALLY AN AMAZING DEAL FOR THAT CAMERA

I literally wish I had your thrift stores (my local ones like never have cameras and the only one I found was like a beat-up kodak lol)

I go to the thrift store a lot and I can't even begin to tell you how many treasures I found. Keeping relation to this website though, I find tons upon tons of manga over my time thrifting. I was even able to snag a few wall scrolls and anime music cds. They are not common but if you look often enough you'll be able to find them.

Ooh, may I ask what animes the wall scrolls and cds were? Your thrift stores honestly sound super lucky bc I barely find any anime related stuff at my local thrift stores lol.

(The only anime things I did find though were like the inuyasha poster, and a few assorted mangas, (soul eater, black butler, d-frag, school rumble, 07-ghost, and for some reason a TON of gravitation mangas lol.)

Also IN WHAT WORLD is there anime soundtrack CDs at thrift stores? I would honestly be SUPER happy to find any anime soundtrack at a thrift store bc what all my thrift stores have are like a billion michael bolton cds lmao.

I found a PC game called "The Pac Pack" at Goodwill and it is 6 knockoff Pac-Man games called "Pac-Guy" and they are absolutely mental. All of their audio assets were stolen.

Pac-Guy Resurrection is the one that is the funniest to me because it devolves into movie parodies and there is this whole star wars thing going on and then darth vader throws the emperor down the tube and the guitar riff from Bad to the Bone starts playing and it is peak comedic timing.

Here is the cover

Go to 17:30 and treat yourself and keep in mind this is only 1 of the 5 games since this one is a remake.

I've found a couple of game consoles (that probably only I would be interested in), consoles like those fake Wii things (Zone) and that Pop Station in the form of a PS2 that Ashens reviewed (unfortunately though it didn't work very well).

One time I found like an entire collection of US railroad documentary DVDs, like maybe 15 or 20 of them? and I bought all of them.

Recently here at one in town I found the complete set of Dinosaur King manga for £1. I actually been wanting these so bad for years but could only find vol 1 and for a fortune!

-I’ve found some gaming consoles, got a Sega Dreamcast last year though we’ve barely used it.
-A vhs tape of space adventures cobra. I got it and I think its possessed by a demon because when I put it into the vcr, it would just show black and white staticy images while making SGHIHDFISGJODHIGJGOSHGKDJSKGJOG noises
-One of the half price books I usually go to has had some random rayearth toys. A doll of Hikaru boxed and everything, which I got to display and a set of Chibi figures of the girls and Mokona, with the original box too! I opened that (didn’t damage the box) and man were they sticky
-Cels. A nerdy store I go to has a lot of thrift stuff, including expensive Japanese toys from the 70s! They had a collection of cels at one point, but they weren’t from anything major, just smaller productions. I ended up getting a lot of Kurogane communication cels before they disappeared
-Went to a bunch of thrift stores in Japan and I genuinely can’t get over the fact they had everything I had ever wanted

Hahaha! I couldn't stop laughing about that Michael Bolton comment. XD

So the stuff I have collected has taken me many years to acquire. I have a thrift store near my house so every time I am out and about I usually try to stop there and see if they have anything good. Manga is by far the most common commodity they have. The only problem is when you buy manga at thrift stores you often buy them out of order when it comes to volumes missing. So many titles in my collection are still as such. As far as wall scrolls go I actually found a Tsubasa Chronicles and Love Hina. The anime music CDs I found were from Dragon Ball Z, Rayearth and Sailor Moon.

I wish I could say I was finding these all the time, but trust me it took a ton of tries to finally find something anime related that wasn't manga.

Yeah honestly my thrift store always has at least one manga (but they're usually either really crappy isekai harems or as I said, the Gravitation manga for some reason xD)

I think I found a Slayers wall scroll one time, but ehh, I still haven't watched it yet, so I didn't end up buying it. I also found like the 5th DVD out of a set of the anime "Majutsushi Orphen" which I did end up getting just bc it's like SUPER rare to find any anime dvd at my thrift store.

And yeah I'm pretty sure finding an anime soundtrack cd at my local thrift stores would just be flat-out IMPOSSIBLE lol, my thrift stores just tend to like NEVER have any Japanese CDs (or just J-pop, K-pop and C-pop in general.) So I'm probably never finding one where I live. xD
But ig I can always rely on my thrift stores to give me a lifetime supply of michael bolton cds, I mean, tell me, how am I supposed to live without them!!? Okay, bad michael bolton joke, but WHATEVER

I Found this Large Scaled (About 1/3 Scale; 24in. or so, Think VOLKS "Dollfie" Sized) Geisha Decorative Statue
at my Local GOODWILL for about $20 about a Decade ago.

She's Quite Lavish... Just about as much so as these sorts of Doll-like, Traditional Japanese Decorative Statues generally Get.

Indeed; IIRC, Statues of this Quality Were/Are generally around at least $1000 when New...

Hahaha! Well I suppose you can never have too many Michael Bolton CDs. Maybe you can build a fort out of it? XD

Oooooh you should have definitely bought the Slayers wall scroll. When you get around to watching it trust me you will fall in love with that series. A very good medieval action comedy. Yeah I would say that anime DVDs are probably the next most common thing up to manga. Usually my thrift stores have about 5 to 10 manga titles available at a time.

I still wouldn't give up though, thrift stores are in ever rotating things so you never know when you will get lucky. Sometimes too I would check some of the glass cases, I have also found some anime related merchandise in there because they feel it's valuable for some reason. Then again maybe it is considering how infrequently you see it at thrift stores. Hahaha!

Honestly, yeah looking back, I should've bought the slayers wall scroll but that was like 4 years ago lmao, also a bit off topic (since this was on fb marketplace not at a thrift store) But it still relates to wall scrolls. I recently scored these absolutely GIGANTIC fabric fruit's basket 2001 wall scrolls on fb marketplace for like $30 a few weeks ago and they're both currently hanging in my room!!! :D

Yeah, honestly I'm pretty sure all the weebs in my area must hang onto their stuff like gold, bc there's BARELY any anime merch that ends up at my local thrift stores besides random gravitation mangas for some reason (Ig there's an abundance of fujoshis where I live lmao) Also your thrift stores sound absolutely AMAZING if you're finding like 5-10 mangas each time!!!!! But yeah, I still go to my local thrift stores every 1-3 weeks or so. (also, I check the glass cases all the time, never any anime stuff there.)

Certainly the LEGO Throwbots Ice Slizer. I had recently found out about the theme and was telling my mom im the car how I was interested in this character as I was looking at them in a catalog. We enter a Goodwill, and lo nand behold, guess who was there? There have been more legendary LEGO finds at thrift stores before, but this one felt like God was smiling down on me.

I found this online, so not thrifting by sheer technicality, but I found a used Epcot shirt from 1995 and bought it for $12. I'm really into retro Disney Parks stuff and especially Epcot stuff so it's very awesome to me, even though the average person probably wouldn't think it was cool.

Yes I would still say that counts as thrifting using Facebook marketplace, I have even scored a few anime trinkets myself using craigslist. Yes for the few people out there who still use Craigslist like me. XD By the way I've been meaning to ask you? Do you remember how much that slayers wall scroll was? I have found that sometimes when I'm at a thrift store and I see something anime related I end up buying it even if I don't have much of an interest in it, just because it's so rare to find them. Plus they are usually cheaper than find them at MSRP of course.

I think now with the rise of the internet and smartphones a lot more people are savvy to what some of their belongings are worth on the second hand market. Not just with anime but with other hobbies as well such as video games. It's so easy now to go into stores and see if what you're about to purchase is going for an actual good price thanks to smartphones.

I guess that is true, they're usually is a decent amount of manga most of the times I go to the thrift store. The only problem with this is that I end up buying all of these volumes out of order so it's kind of hard to keep up with what I've read and what I haven't. XD

Since you asked, the Slayers scroll was $5.99 if you're wondering (In canadian dollars like all the things I mention in this thread)

Yeah, honestly fb marketplace has WAYYY more anime stuff and like AMAZING PRICES too, (I once saw french volumes 1-12 of vampire knight for like $40 (well I can kinda read french!!!!!) and a whole lot of kyoto animation blu rays for like $50!!) Problem is I have to ask my parents to drive me to wherever the thing I'm buying is and most of the time, even if I'm paying with my own chore money, my parents will be like "You already have too much anime stuff in your room, go save that for your tuition!" lmao. (but ig they let me get those fruits basket scrolls that time!!!!!)

And honestly I've noticed that too, esp with game collecting. I'd know bc I'm a former collector and honestly the prices have gone absolutely crazy (Like no I don't want to pay $10 for a beat-up copy of madden 2004 on ps2 thank you very much.) anime stuff I'm pretty sure has always just been expensive though, especially since anime was pretty niche in my city until quite recently.

@waferish

That's actually a really great price for an old school wall scroll from Slayers. Do you happen to remember if it had a group of characters on it? Which would make it even better!

You're inspiring me to check out Facebook marketplace more now man. I will admit I haven't logged into Facebook much lately, with this website being my main social media these days. Did you ever use Craigslist back in the day? Doesn't seem like it's very popular anymore but it's quite similar. Though it doesn't have nearly as much traffic as fbm does. Hahaha! Don't feel bad, I was in a similar situation with my parents back in the day as well.

I hear you on that! Even loose copies of older games tend to have climbed up in price and tripled to what they used to be. Dreamcast games for instance used to be like around 10 to 15 dollars, now you're looking at pain at the very minimum $50 for a lot of these games. And that's not even including the rare ones that are easily in the triple digits currently.

@Retro8bit Hmm, pretty sure the wall scroll just had the main character on it, not like a group of characters.

And yeah I honestly don't have fb either, I just check my mom's for marketplace lmao. But I'm pretty sure craigslist has just never been all that popular in canada (especially bc we have like this canadian version called like kijiji.) And since there's fb marketplace too. But yeah, never tried using craigslist.

And honestly dreamcast prices seem CRAZY at the moment, but I haven't collected games in years. (Mostly since I've kinda been reading more than gaming nowadays)

I used to be a ps2 and og xbox collector back when the games used to be like the cheapest thing ever but yeah, they def aren't as cheap anymore, most of the popular games (like idk a final fantasy one for example) will cost around $15-$30 at my local game stores 😭😭😭 (still dirt cheap compared to dreamcast prices though lmao)

Man I really miss thrifting from back in the day. You could find so many wonderful and obscure things for pennies on the dollar. Now with the rise of smartphones and the internet it's so much harder to strike those deals. So many more people are aware of what they have and want to charge top dollar for it.

I found some amazing stuff at flea markets. Mostly just nice pair of shoes at thrift stores or a record or two.
