Do you feel sad whenever you happen to see roadkilled cats? Do you actually let your cat roam outside?

| It was a common sight when I used to live in the countryside. I always ended up thinking about their owners waiting for their cats to come back, only for it to never happen. It feels so dangerous to let your cat roam outside, don't you think? On my end, I never let my cats out without supervision. I only let them in my backyard, but only in summertime and either in my arms or on a leash. But what about you? Are you not affected whenever you see a dead cat on the road? Do you still let your cat roam outside all alone? Aren’t you worried it might not come back home one day? @KittenCuddler @Cybercat2000 @Serafos @Little_Sheepling |

| There are no stays here in town and it’s too busy to let your cat out. Whenever I see the corpse of a squirrel I give them a Roman salute and a little prayer. |

| I feel sadder when I see a cat sacrificed at crossroads in the name of religion, killing for food is one thing, killing a live cat and taking its skin for religion or culture is cruel and disturbing. Cats sometimes escape and come back later, but every time they escape from home I get scared and imagine the countless cruel possibilities that exist that can hurt the little feline angels;_; |

| I have seen squished cats, and it is really sad. But yes, my cat is free to go outside whenever, as I have a flap installed. But yeah, my family has always let cats be outside, and we lost a fair few to cars. I'm mostly not so concerned about her, as I know she mainly hangs out in the alleyway going in and out of the backs of other properties. At the very worst she could get locked in a shed (which I think did happen, as she was missing for 2 days). It's much better here for her than the last house I lived in, as that was right next to train tracks. Although I actually did see cats crossing the tracks (which are electrified 3rd rail ones O.O), but I didn't have my cat then. My niece was actually going to live in the house next to my former one, but she wanted cats too and thought better of it, as that house was even closer to the railway. Sometimes she rushes out the front door, but she runs back in again, as she's scared of cars, people, cats, dogs...the list is endless lol. I really don't think I could keep her inside all the time. She has so much energy, she constantly wants to jump up onto impossible places and runs round the house (which is a small house with lots of stuff in it), she drives me mad sometimes, I just couldn't cope with that. I did keep her inside when my ex neighbour's dog smashed through the shared fence, as it had free reign of both gardens for a time. It was a very aggressive dog, it even tried breaking down the flap in the door. We were basically prevented from using the yard while it was out there. |

| I don't want to think about it. I see a lot of roadkill but not many cats thankfully. I jump out of the car sometimes to try to grab animals off the road before they get hit like box turtles, and one time a little dog running around that had snuck out and brought him back to the owner others like bunnies I just try to chase away. I don't have any cats anymore not even the strays and ferals I took care of outside though I do see some on occasion and give them food if they look hungry. In past my cats were allowed to just come and go as they pleased without anyone watching them, this lead to many never returning as animals got them, one of my cats fall off a two story fall because he was declawed so he lost his grip but he survived that landing on a chicken wire that cushioned his fall but he easily could have died hitting a pole holding that wire up, another cat got hit by a car presumably but he survived that and I stopped letting the cats go outside too many died or were injured and only remaining survivor wasnt declawed so declawed cats are especially vulnerable. Tried a cat leash those dont really work it drove my cat nuts and he would slip out of the harness. A fenced in enclosure where they can get fresh air and maybe roll around works better if they absolutely demand to go out if already used to it but when it's the norm for them they are less likely to sneak out since one cat she would sneak outside then not go more than a few feet from the door and sometimes run back in. There are ones that just set up on the window even. Though indoor cats live longer because they arent exposed to diseases of other animals. The ferals and strays I took care of all died from result of being attacked by other cats and animals. Whenever I am out in a shed I make sure to close the door as I go in and out because I am worried a cat may walk in and get trapped from hiding in there when im not looking |

Little_Sheepling said: That's actually one of my biggest fear... I treat the entrance room in my house the same way as if it was an airlock in a space station. The entrance door and the door to the living room must never be opened at the same time, and I always verify that none of my cats are present in the entrance room before going outside.😅Sometimes she rushes out the front door |

| Not really, it's usually their fault, because many of them start to run onto the street when a car approaches, it's like they have a dysfunctional sense of direction in such moments, can't feel sad about that, sorry not sorry. |

| @Zarutaku You specifically mentioned that you don't care about the cats' death because you see their inabilities as the cause. | @fleurbleue No, I don't do animal sacrifices. That's mostly a Judeo-Christian practice. Even the Satanists who partake in such rituals usually choose animals whose meat can be consumed afterwards and the act is usually purely symbolic not to mention not that much different from regular slaughter. You might find it hard to believe but I've had to live with cats before and used to take good care of them. (Even if they didn't deserve it!) |

| Even when i recently hit a deer i felt sick seeing it walk away in the awful state it was in. So yeah, seeing any animal, cats included, make me feel terrible, and twice as bad when I’m responsible. Nothing like starting your day off by running over an animal and having to ruminate on it the rest of the day. We had something attack our cat last year so our old neighbor took his friend, her older cat she left behind when she moved, and we brought him inside. His teeth are still exposed from where he had a big chunk taken out of his left cheek and his whiskers aren’t quite right there. |

That would only be contradictory if I applied the same standards to all living beings, but I apply different standards to different life forms, just like almost any other person does. For example when bugs get squashed by cars I don't feel sad at all, regardless of who's at fault. fleurbleue said: it maybe just means that you don't care much for cats in general. | I don't like roadkill, especially a cat, but I'm alright with wandering cats though if they're savvy enough and it's not a terribly dangerous area. Not sure if I'd be ok with my own pet (I don't have a cat), but my neighbor's cat wanders around the neighborhood and has been fine so far, and my grandma always had a barn cat. Yes, they may not live as long, but some cats are meant to be free, and there's something special about seeing them explore in the wild. |
