So I watched gintama last year and I loved it so much, it became one of my favorites. But I barely remember character's names. I see lots of people on this app discussing the lore and everything. So I guess my question is :do you rewatch you're favorite shows to be able to discuss them and remember the arcs or it's just natural and my memory is particularly weak?

I do rewatch my favorite shows a lot. Particularly the shorter ones. Gintama is my favorite anime of all time yet I've only seen it once. I do sometimes read the manga if I have a lot of free time but I often struggle to remember the lesser important characters. There's nothing wrong with rewatching things, in fact i encourage it. I rewatch FLCL once a year because its short and perfect in my eyes. I even have an FLCL tattoo and my brother has a Gintama tattoo. I'm tired so I'm rambling a lot right now but i hope this helps.

definitely depends on how long the anime is

for gintama, i'm fine with naming most of the main characters—others, not so much.

I remember almost everything I watch, so re watching anime does nothing for me unless it’s fight scenes.

reading the manga seems like a good idea since I can experience my faves in a different medium, thanks

I’m not the type of person who can rewatch something because after i remember a few scene that happens in that lore i would easily remember it all. But im also not the type that can remember something in the thin air without references. So i usually re-read the detailed summary of the plot of the arc that the character are in and its timeline.

I already have rewatched some of my favorite shows. I'm rewatching my favorite anime, Yu Yu Hakusho, for the third time now, just because I'm watching it with a friend of mine this time. Furthermore, I've started to read the manga of it as well, because it has been released in my country this year.

I'm someone who isn't participating in discussions, but I'm visiting the Reddit channels of my favorite series from time to time and I stumble on some theories, but I don't really care about it and I want to make my own experience. I'm able to remember the names of the important characters, most of the soundtracks, especially OPs and a few things that have happened, but not everything and not in detail. I don't think anyone can do this without having a crazy passion about it. Furthermore, I'm not able to remember the arcs most of the time. I can only name the 4 arcs of Yu Yu Hakusho. When I was visiting the Reddit channel of one of my favorite manga series, Gachiakuta, someone asked how much the anime adaptation is going to adapt and someone said up to this arc and I didn't know which arc had been meant, tbh. When I've searched for it, I was like, yeah, I know this point. I don't really separate the anime into arcs, unless clear-cuts have been made or there are only a few arcs in general, which can be remembered with ease.

lots of times! if there's nothing new worthy of watching, might as well stick with the good old ones - won't disappoint you!

it's been well over 2 years for me.

I occasionally test myself by trying to write the name of all the characters I remember. As of a few days ago, I managed to do pretty okay I guess.

Also this is a phenomenal way to spend your free time so don't bother with this if you're on a time crunch

I rewatch animes all the time. I’m usually too lazy to pick up a new one so most of the time I just rewatch my old favorites. My list doesn’t have many animes because of this habit ๐Ÿ˜‚.
I rewatch random episodes of Gintama from time to time. And sometimes I rewatch the whole anime.

I still remember all my favorite anime, it's hard to forget something I like after all :)

I still rewatch my favorite simply to enjoy it again, usually I do that after at least a year from when I finished the anime for the first time~

A year feels too short of a time to forget things to me lol but one of the reasons my favourites are what they are is because they have a memorable impact. If I were to rewatch them, it would be to find things I didn't notice before and I might actually do that at some point

I think for me at least, my shitty memory is what allows me to rewatch my favourites every once in a while. I recently finally started watching One Piece for the first time and suddenly I’m picking up jokes and references in my Gintama rewatch that have previously gone straight over my head, I think Gintama has great rewatch value because of the huge cast of characters too.

I’ve rewatched short shows but rewatching a long anime like Gintama which has over 365+ episodes takes more commitment and I would rather wait a couple more years to rewatch all of it since I watched it around 3 years ago which wasn’t that long ago. I do remember the main character names and also specific scenes but I forgot about important parts of the plot overall

i don't rewatch my favourite shows. I guess the ones I've rewatched would be anything dragon ball, but in general any anime or entertainment media in general, I will remember mostly everything exactly because they're my favourites. if I remember an anime very well it means I really liked it. If I don't, then it either was mid or unlikeable to me.

Personally I'm more of a reader, but when it comes to my all time favorite series, "Gintama" I decided not to rewatch it, but to read the manga instead. And if you love something like Gintama, you'll already have your favorite moments, characters, arcs, etc, memorized, likely. But after I finish watching or reading animanga and feel compelled to still bolster my love for it I'll engage in connecting to it through other means: Manga animations, interacting with the community, writing a review, cosplay, etc. Which indirectly keeps the content fresh in my head, and kinda feels like it never ended!
