A friend keeps telling me I need to watch it and so I decided to finally give it a shot.
I usually watch sub unless the dub is very good. But which one is better?

personally I always try to watch the sub first since it's kinda it's original form and the way they express or deliver lines is entirely different then I go back and watch the dub afterwards. but I don't think either is superior it's honestly just preference

Original voices are always better because they are a part of the whole project, director, voice over director, animation, sound, even the author himself.
Dubs can claim all the respect to the work they want, but they will always change the tone.

First two comments are on point. I’d like to add everyone’s VA is great but Momo’s VA is just amazing in sub, no way you’re going to get that from dub

As someone who is watching the episodes in both languages to spot the differences and how well they are doing in their languages, I say watch it sub.

The dub isn't too bad, there are obviously far worse dubs out there, but I'm not particularly impressed with it either, so go with the subs, I'm far more impressed with it.

You can try watching a few scenes in both and compare them, see which one you like more. Also, in my opinion, no matter how good the japanese dub is, if you don't speak japanese, you might not even realise, since you don't speak the language, and sometimes actually hearing and understanding something immediately is going to enhance the experience as opposed to reading it and understanding it with slight delay. Also, in my opinion, this dub has a better translation.

If I was showing it to someone who couldn’t keep up with subs, dub is fine. No judgement, not everyone can follow so much action and read at the same time. And there’s also a dyslexic audience…
But as a fan of Japan and its culture and language, sub every time.

I personally think that Death Note's dub was by far better than the sub, but that's the only anime that I prefer dub for. Subs are mostly better but can be inferior, all depends on the voice actors

Since it's set in Japan, I’d usually go with the sub.

Now it's 100% ok to have a preference towards either audio or even like both. But always ? Ppfftt yeah no I thoroughly disagree with that. There are definitely some(keyword here) dubbed animes that are better than subs but all this shit is subjective at the end of the day.

Well, the sub is not bad but it doesn't just sound natural to my ear which says a lot since I watch dub 95% of the time (I am an exclusive DUB watcher btw). I have seen some episodes of Dandadan sub and it's not bad, good in fact. But since I always pick dub in the end if an anime has it, I have to say dub here.
Plus having AJ Beckles, Abby Trott, Lisa Reimold, and Aleks Le in the dub just makes it so much better. 👌🏾

Subs with jp dubs all the time. If eng dub was something like Dragon Ball Z Abridged, I wouldn't mind eng dubs at all.

Honestly it’s translation on the sub imo has been somewhat sub par compared to normal. Maybe it’s cause it’s Netflix, but I just feel like the translations are pretty far off.

I think the jokes land better in the dub, but they censored some stuff out in the recent episode that wasn’t cut out in the sub, so the sub is definitely a nobrainer on this one. Not to mention the sub is just as good voice acting wise. (Coming from someone who prefers dub)

But alas…no matter what you’ll have bias viewers who started watching in sub and vouche for sub or started watching in dub and vouche for dub. At this point in the game, you’re going to have to decide for yourself how you want to watch.

Everyone else’s opinions aren’t the 100% truth cause it’s a subjective experience for everyone. This is why it’s just easier to watch both. I don’t want to miss anything so why not?

Long answer for this one, if you don’t want to read short answer is sub generally, but here it really makes sense to go sub.

Certain jokes don’t land the same, the main one that comes to mind is in episode 4 when they fight turbo granny, and momo says a bunch of loaner words (外来語) which are essentially just english. Turbo Granny being hundreds of years old means she doesn’t understand those words, the subtitles said something like “modern language” or but the actual word she used was English (英語). I remember seeing the dub scene, which goes the “slang” route, which has a different connotation. While i think this is a relatively minor example, it’s flourishes like that which ultimately get lost in translation. The way both of them soeak and identify as “I” as interesting as well “うち” meaning house, and “自分” meaning myself. Uchi typically is used by women (mainly kansai) but it’s more casual, and the literal meaning also connects to her pride in her house, the accent she gives it makes it more assertive. Jibun by contrast is very introspective and reflects an obvious self-consciousness. They also pick different grammar structures and levels of formality that show aspects of their character.

A lot of the great aspects benefit from some knowledge of Japanese, but even aside from that, translations can be more literal in subtitles, compared to trying to match mouth flaps.

End of Dandadan answer and more about dub/sub generally.

Sub is generally just better because of the more competitive market, and the infrastructure to foster good voice actors in Japan.

The voice actors in the US typically go to video games or US animation where there is more work, and i’d assume more money than with dubbing foreign animation.

I don’t know the numbers specifically to back that up, but anime around 2010 and before was generally just an advertisement for the manga. The only things that used to get second seasons were typically action Jump shows, and other action shounen. Anime brings in younger audiences, so the series that make the most money and most marketable towards the demographic watching anime used to be the ones getting longer anime adaptations.

It's all about the voice acting. There are certain dubs that I enjoy and there are sub that I enjoy, I don't think any are superior to the other. I'm watching the dub on Dandadan because it is enjoyable. Give both a try and see which you prefer.

Same here, I can see myself watching the dub after this season is finished so I can focus 100% on the animation.

honestly, both are amazing for this series. Bang Zoom Studio went above and beyond to make the dub spectacular, but the sub is somehow just as good. I would say watch both.

I usually watch the dub because I have ADHD and always need to be doing something while watching anime. A hobby like drawing or crocheting! I can’t read and draw at the same time hence I watch dub. I don’t understand why some people think they’re superior because they watch sub. Watch whichever you enjoy most! It’s not that serious :)

Ignore the sub supremacists, the dub is very good, and arguably better. According to my friend who read the manga, the dub captures the vibe of the manga more closely than the sub. There’s also so many more funny moments that aren't in the sub, like Okarun calling Momo a bitch XD

@Cielord While I generally would agree, you obviously have never compared Gakkou no Kaidan sub to dub. There are a couple others but very, very few.
