The recent rating wars have created a plethora of alt-accounts/bots that are rating the top anime. Also many new accounts are commenting on those anime episode discussions.
There is another problem, which is scam/bot accounts who post links on forums.
I think if myanimelist applied a system where an account must be older than a day to post in forums etc. and rate anime/manga, such problems would be much less.

I think this would be annoying for people who are just starting on MAL.

Like imagine creating a MAL account but not being able to fully make your own list the moment you create your account.

Very unlikely this would ever get passed, it would just discourage new people from joining MAL.

Yeah most likely. Its just an idea, I dont think the bots and alts are too out of control to handle with other methods

i think the idea's fine but with a small twist
how about older than a week to rate *and* have that rating affect the overall mal score
they can still rate their shows but it wont be accounted for in the overall score until a week/ x days has passed
one day is not nearly enough imo

that's different. that one says inactive accs scores should be disregarded which is wrong for the reasons they've already mentioned.
im saying brand new account scores don't get added to the global mean for at least 7 days of account creation

nah i added the new accounts too there "and new accounts are by default excluded for x amount of months of activity to the global scores inclusion"

I thought there was a system that Mal created to prevent situations where people make alt accounts just to increase/decrease an anime's rating...

Yeah I know that, but it's not instantly working, it takes days, usually weeks to get rid of those alt/bot accounts

for posting on the forums I agree with, some people have suggested more extreme lengths of time but a single day is all you need, anything longer has severe diminishing returns on effectiveness

for ratings it is unnecessary, that's what the system we already have in place is for, which already works quite well

the illegitimate accounts do not have to be banned manually for their scores to not count, they never counted in the first place

Yeah, it would be nice to have new accounts be only limited to either support or suggestions and wait a while before they do post on here.

Why? Let them score for their own profile. The system doesn't have to count it into the public system and I think it doesn't for new accounts that only rate 2 or 3 anime.
