| I don't like fanservice, but I tend to ignore it if I like the show, but there are plenty of people who hate it. So, how do you go about avoiding it? Sure, there are obvious ecchi shows, but others don't seem to be fanservice heavy, but then they are. |

| very, very rarely am I blindsided with surprise fanservice. That's why I think it's odd hearing people complain so much about it. Maybe it's because of my genre preferences, idk. I do tend to avoid the flavor of the week romcom/waifu bait seasonals. but then again I talked to some guy here the other day who thinks any time a girl is shown wearing a bikini = fanservice. Could be that people like to make a big deal out of nothing at all. |

| If it's an ecchi anime you should expect that there would be alot of it but in a different anime genre with fan service, it's easy to avoid it unless if the anime is "Fire Force" cuz it has too much |

| I don't necessarily hate it, but it does turn me off of certain shows. If it gets to be too much, I just stop watching. I think it's more about how seriously it takes the fanservice and how non-con it is. Like I loved the first 7ish eps of Dress-up Darling because both characters were pretty open about their sexuality, they were just awkward about it. Though once Juju and her sister are introduced it became gross so I stopped. |

| Well there's different types of fanservice(but they aren't viewed as such)...an easy example is a cameo of a character(Spirit Albarn in Fire Force), but there's more types, like fighting fanservice, melodrama fanservice, etc... so people really don't care about fanservice in general, just the sexual one So if the anime is ecchi, harem or hentai, the person watching it can't complain, otherwise they're being stupid(this goes for people that dislike sexual fanservice in any situation)...since it's their fault(this is why people-like me- complained about Fire Force) but even if it has, the author needs to be careful about timing(here I'll use Fire Force again) When you're having an important scene(as in dramatic), the worst thing you can do as an author is break that build up emotion with a sexual scene or even a comedy moment Regardless of how much hate Fairy Tail gets for this scene, Sting giving up at the end of the Grand Magic Games(regardless of how stpid that was) had the dramatic scene done well...Tamaki faservice during the Rekka fight was awful...this of course goes for those that don't like it but can ignore it. The shit that bothers me is the loli shit but it's hard to talk about it since it's only an issue(imo) if the one consuming that content is an adult, but whatever I guess |

| It's pretty easy actually, maybe you just have an overlap in genre interest with the ones that often have fanservice? My main interests genre wise just tend away from them Either that or I watch older stuff where they're more blatant about it, weirdly enough that insults me less as a woman. Fanservice now is treated like something they know they shouldn't do but do anyway and thus by making it less garish, they act like that makes them more respectful than they used to be. In reality you're being just as bad as before you're just being dishonest about it, which I think is worse. Looking at panties or bra shots does nothing for me, if guys like that I honestly just find it funny cuz it's so stupid. So I think it's stupid how it's handled. In any case though, for quick tips, just avoid romances with a shounen demographic- which is most of the popular ones nowadays(obviously all of them aren't bad or that way though), ecchi, harems/ casts with large casts of one gender, stylized battle shounen(weirdly enough), certain studios like SHAFT(although again they're pretty bare about it so it's hard for me to be mad). I hear people say seinen is bad too but I feel like sexual stuff in that usually has more of a purpose, you'd probably see things like sexual assault or such in a seinan or josei than fanservice. Oh, and you're also more likely to see it in things by male original creators, not hating on them, just saying my experience. But also, keep in mind that a lot of creators have to put stuff like that in for what's percieved as wanted by readers. That helps you keep it in perspective when things like that are out of place, don't always give something up because of fanservice. Pay attention to the context of the character writing and the story and imagine things from the creator's perpsective sometimes just trying to get by. In any case, you're not alone and it's perfectly valid to love anime and hate fanservice. |
