There is this from season 2

I noticed that too. In the manga Hange’s laying on the ground but the view is arranged so that the chest is purposely not able to be seen. The anime changes it so that Hange’s boobs are quite visible, as noted in the screenshot you provided. I like boobs so I notice these things 🧐

My understanding is that Hange is ambiguous in the manga, but was changed to female in the anime. In the official subs of Season 1 (at least on Crunchyroll) there are a couple of occasions in the earlier episodes where she is referred to as “she”.

I see you are a man of culture as well when it comes to boobs

Since Isayama made it clear that Hange is bisexual and he didn't clarify his/her gender, so is it the studio that made her a female character ? Lol, I'm laughing on my own ques.

the amount of butthurt snowflakes in this thread is hilarious lmao. are yall so fragile that you can't handle the possibility of a non cishet character in your anime?

yeah idk anything about canon sexualities but isayama takes care to present hange as gender neutral. i think i heard that way back, as early as S1. if you wanna interpret hange as female or male, cis or trans or nb, then it's whatever, they're probably one of the few existent characters without a canonical gender.

some people have pointed out that hange cleary had boobs in one panel in season 2 or wtv. if you wanna take this as canon, then we know that hange has those secondary sexual characteristics, but that doesn't necessarily say anything abt their gender.

personally, if an author makes this much of an effort to present their characters as gender neutral, then i usually just assume that they're nonbinary. but once more, there's nothing wrong abt interpreting hange as a woman, as long as you don't do what these clowns are doing and deny other interpretations.

"Isayama has confirmed that… we’re not allowed to confirm Hange’s gender. He has instructed us to avoid gendered pronouns when referring to Hange, or at least to use he AND she with equal frequency." soo i suppose you can say that hange's gender is ambiguous !

Hange Zoe is a woman.

hange's gender is meant to be ambiguous and up to interpretation,,, just bc they're feminine presenting doesn't necessarily mean they are a female. its srsly annoying to say they're most definitely a woman and just ignore what the author of aot said ab hange's gender identity.

She has no gender identity. She's simply a woman. A gender non-conforming woman at that, which is something rare in anime.

that's an interesting take but the author specifically made it clear that hange isnt a woman and that they shouldn't be put into a binary like that

Non-binary is bullshit. She's a woman.

they're literally referred to using they/them prns in the manga and the author said to avoid using gendered prns for them, so idk why ur so determined for hange to be a woman when they obviously arent.

im guessing that isayama didn't have as much control over the anime as he did in the manga. hange's appearance in the anime in general is much more feminine as well and i suspect it was a decision made by the producers. i still believe that hange is non binary tho bc the manga is the original source.

you're kidding right? Not every single media has to involve people being apart of the LGBTQ. Aot was created over a decade ago so hange would have been a woman as the LGBTQ wasn't as large back then. Her identity means so little that it's not even mentioned. does it need to be? Nope. Is it smart to simply assume that she is a female due to her physique, the setting of the anime and her voice? Yes. Are people who try to turn every character gay or trans annoying? Yes. It's ok if you like what you like but stop shoving onto things that people are trying to enjoy

In my eyes, she's a woman. But of course, that's just my perspective. It has been made known to me that the author made her gender unclear. But it's pointless to quibble about it since the author has decided not to make her sexuality relevant to her character or the story and wanted us to form our own conclusions as someone in thread said. So, no one can necessarily be right or wrong in assuming that she's a male, female, or neither.

Lol they are not. Isayama said that if Hange were a song it would be Jibun Rashiku. Read the lyrics and then dare to tell me again that they are a woman. Moreover, they use neutral pronouns in the original manga, if the official subtitles misgender them is just because of enbyphobia.

i think it’s up to the reader/watcher to decide.

but i feel like that for a lot of characters (and by a lot of characters i mean osana najimi from komi can’t communicate) whose genders are unspecified, argued, or unknown are usually voiced by women. this doesn’t mean that the character’s gender is female tho.

I don't think the anime ever specifically says Hange is female(I may be wrong since I don't speak Japanese)...it just happens to be that the voice actor is female...but a lot of male charecters in anime are voiced by female(the same voice actress is the voice of Edward from fmab)

isayama said that everybody have to decid for your own wich gender she/him has
