what are the oldest animes you have seen?
Like when it was released..
Do you like old animes? Would you watch an anime that old?

I've seen some from 1968 and japan looked very different from what you see now..

It almost has a 3rd world feel to it, with slums and poverty-stricken society. Not all blue sky and cherry blossoms.

I've seen kyojin no hoshi (baseball anime not all episodes), cyborg 009, akane chan, sabu to ichi, youkai ningen bem and gegege no kitaro.. some of them are black and white.

So far the oldest I've seen is Fist of The North Star (1984). I think that old anime are great and rival newer ones. I don't think that one is better than the other.

Probably either Astro boy or Doraemon for me.

But I've only seen a few episodes of Astro boy, and I watched a lot of Doraemon when I was little.

It was 3 seconds... It was one of the firsts animated picture like a gif but it isn't a anime series as there is no story or plot..

But well done finding some animation that old...

You should see the movie about how the author came up with the idea, struggled to get it published and passed away from too much work leaving his assistant and editor to complete the series..

Have you seen the stark differences between 70s doremon and present doremon ?..
You must have, the society, culture and the houses and school are all wooden buildings and stuff. the stores and shops.. i really liked difference between old and new.

No idea for names atm but they were like 4-8 min max. Also I have seen war propaganda anime from the 40s like:

I just checked, I watched both the second and the current version of Doraemon when I was a kid.
And yeah, the environment and other settings between these two generations are very different.

The difference is very obvious in the movies, I also watched a lot of old and new ones.

Space Battleship Yamato (1974). I don't really have any intention to watch anything else from the 70s or earlier, the historical curiosity isn't a strong enough motivation, and really, anime wasn't as good back then. Anime only really starts to get going properly in the 80s, and the very best stuff only really starts appearing in the mid 90s.

Katsudou Shashin which is estimated to be the first surviving anime from somewhere between 1905-1911. If shorts don't count then the oldest I've completed is the movie Castle in the Sky from 1986. If you're asking about SERIES then it'd be Dragon Ball Z from 1989 (my brother was obsessed with this when we were teens).

I did watch few episodes of gegege no kitaro (original). Though it is at hold, i may continue it eventually.
I was thinking about watching kyojin no hoshi too, but one one episode is sub. I have to watch it in raw ( i need some resolve for that).
There are lot of others too which i have watched incompletely

Do you like old animes?
It depends. Not overall not a big fan. But i really like Sasurai no Taiyou (that is also my oldest completed anime other than old shorts). Infact the thing i most love about old anime is music (vocal)

Would you watch an anime that old?
Yes, if there are enough incentive

So far it is Mobile Suid Gundam which was out at 1979 if I am not mistaken.

Do I like it? Well it is not the matter of age, but matter of how executed it was, some old stuff will be likeable for me some others won't.

The oldest anime I remember watching is Hakujaden- 1958
As a kid, I used to watch a lot of old stuff (mostly, American, European or Japanese stuff) so I am not 100% sure what was my first oldest anime. I remember watching American cartoons that go as far back as the 1930s or 40s. I wouldn't be surprised if I watched some Japanese anime that was realised before 1958.

I will continue to watch old animes. However, it is a challenge to watch an older anime after spending a lot of time with the newer ones. All I have to do is just find the really good ones that are just worth it.

For now it would be Sasurai no Taiyou (1971). It's just terrible so I already dropped it. I would definitely hunt more goodies from 80's and 90's more than following seasonals. Most of them have a certain good vibes in it especially its cel animation and the soundtracks.
