What is the minimum age a person can be charged with a crime in your country? Depending on your answer, do you think it should be lowered, raised, maintained, or eliminated?

A lot of factors can be considered here such as the law surrounding it, where they end up, the degrees of their crime etc. But generally, do you think it's moral to imprison minors?

Just last year here in the Philippines, a bill was passed which lowers the age of criminal responsibility from 15 to 12. As far as I know, they will be taken to a rehabilitation center first, which is really just another version of prison if I'm being honest. Take note that it is not a law yet, and currently the minimum age here is still at 15. Personally, I think 15 is a just the right age.

Not a question to be asked of Malers who are known as the biggest crime enablers and apologists.

I don't know about imprisoning the parents, might make the children worse than they already are, but imposing a fine is a good idea. Yeah, solving the poverty issue here in our country is an even better idea, as it will also lower the crimes committed by minors. Which is unfortunately an even difficult task for our shitty government.

inb4 restorative justice vs punitive justice

Duterte is all about that punitive justice like kill all those drug addicts "war on the poor" instead of focusing on inclusive growth since better standard of living means less crimes anyway

@RPleiades

yep exactly its just so much easy to kill people instead especially the poor

How can a parent stop their kid from committing a crime? Are they supposed to lock them up in their rooms at night? What if they sneak off? And what good does it do for delinquent kids to have their parents taken away from them? Sorry Deg I think this is a bad take from you.

Well I think some kids are just defective, and even good parents couldn't stop them from committing crimes. Situations are too complex to just blame the parents for kids committing crimes.

I'm against punitive justice it's primitive and barbaric not to mention ineffective.
I pro restorative justice.
The best way to combat criminality is to not make dumb laws and abolish already horrible laws like war on drugs.
Next is to combat the cause instead of the effect like reducing/eliminating poverty.
I'm not even gonna talk about private prisons and how horrible idea that is.

well just make the parents and the child do civic duties instead then like make them clean the streets for at least a month

parents should be responsible for their kids especially when those kids are not adult yet

I go with the "if there's grass on the field play ball" mantra.
That basically means if someone does an illegal criminal crimening over the age of 13 they have to spend the rest of their life sharing a 6 x 6m cell with a violent criminal and make prison wine in the toilet so they don't get beat again.

"Minimum age of criminal responsibility" is 14 years of age in case of commission of a felony and 16 years of age in case of commission of misdemeanours foreseen by the Criminal Code"

I'm fine with it

Even though I don't remember most of the shit I did when I was 12, I think I had a good understanding of why murder is bad.

It’s 16 here in the US, and I think that’s about right. It depends on if I really think about it though, sometimes I would want it to be higher than that.
