From time to time I get anime related videos on the home page and while there aren't too many shows I haven't watched that are popular, I know for a fact that there are many people who have barely seen any shows and they, as every human being go watch youtube for "anything they want to see" and they encounter videos anime-related where it's blatantly spoiled either by its title or thumbnail. Reactions/Reviews, apart from rare exceptions will have a spoiler thumbnail or the title gonna contain the most important thing that happened in that set episode or chapter. 99.99% of the youtubers do this way. I guess they are not in the wrong because they probably think everyone is caught up to that episode or chapter, considering in most cases they react/review popular stuff but goddammit if it's sad getting spoiled. GrandLineReview recently made a video about this and I have to say, that I never thought that these videos would spoil so many people. Yes, he mainly meant for One Piece, but this can be applied for any series and the result would the same.

What do you think about this? Is there a way to prevent this, at least to some extent?

There's no way to avoid spoilers if you regularly interact with the anime community. That said, if you're really bothered by it try only watching anitubers on an incognito account so you don't get spoilers in your recommendations!
I'm looking for recommendations, always. Please message me if you have any really good (maybe relatively unknown) anime for me!

don't go on Youtube? But I get what you mean, sometimes they spoil a character's death in the thumbnail or the title. But I guess try to avoid the channels that post those kinds of videos.

I don't search for shows I'm currently watching. I use openings.ninja to search for openings or I type in the name of the song if I want the full version. I turned off watch history and I don't like videos so I don't get crap related to what I usually watch in the front page or the recommended videos.

It is certainly unfortunate when you encounter spoilers, but they are unavoidable since we can't force Youtubers to produce videos in a certain way. The only thing we can do is spread the importance of giving spoiler warnings. They exist, but many people just don't use them because they either forgot that their content could spoil something or just don't care.

This could be the same for any media, whether it be Twitter, Insta, Facebook, whatever. As a viewer, you are forced to stop engaging with this media or help encourage people to use spoiler warnings. Of course, this won't permanently solve the issue, but it will at least decrease the amount of potential spoilers in the future.

Recently, I saw a video spoiling Clannad in the title and thumbnail, and now I'm sad

It's not about that, because I don't watch any of them, and if I do it probably means I'm already caught up to the manga or anime but because tons of people use these spoilers on thumbnails and titles just to grap views without caring of anyone. These greedy assholes have gone insane, and i'm sure they know how much damage they are doing with this and yet, they don't stop doing it. They literally doesn't care of anyone. It's either this or people who pretty much are new in posting anime/manga contents.

Well yeah, but I like to watch trailers or gameplay stuff from my favorite youtubers and while they might use thumbnails that would spoiler the major part of that set gameplay it wouldn't matter since I'm already caught up to the game or i've already finished it. Not going there is great but It'd be better if there was a more rough guideline regarding this specific issue.

On home/recs page, click "Not interested" on any channel that shows spoilery stuff. They won't show up ever again.

I just do everything I can to not be spoiled, I even unsubbed from certain channels that I liked. It's just not worth it.

I remember searching up a Gurren Lagann dub vs sub comparison before I watched the series years back, my ass was greeted with
fml lol

well, people who subscribe to anime channels that talk about certain anime although they don't watch that anime because they complain it's too long like One Piece or they didn't like the art style in Kaiji, they deserve to be spoiled.
if you didn't catch up on the anime simply avoid any channel related to that anime

Yeah its sucks from time to time, A lot of Demon Slayer fans that I know are complaining about this since most of them have only watched the anime and the manga is currently in the climax of the final arc so there are some really heavy spoilers floating around YouTube.

I mean, 2 of them are my favorites and the other is a 9/10 so it didn’t matter that much. The journey is the most important part, the ending, while important.c can still be felt even with spoilers. No spoilers just let me fully experience the story.

Yee, but tons of these subs are alts created by fans of that individual which means, the amount of viewers who watch that video are from non-subs people, and there are a lot of them. They just happen to run into that video and with the thumbnail the OP has used it's impossible to not get spoiled.

Therefore, not too many people deserve to get spoiled, if none.

Yeah, I kinda agree. Have to click 'Not interested ' in almost every video suggestions. But I think I am safe enough if I don't click the thumbnail...

A user also brought this up and I didn't bother to answer it, but since you are two, why not do it now. You don't need to use the incognito mode to hopefully skim over anime related videos that may contain spoilers since you can do it with your gmail account. The gmail account has a feature when you can disable all of your Youtube search history. Therefore it doesn't matter if you search anime all the time unless you are subbed to somebody you won't be getting anything similar to the videos previously seen. But numerous times on the homepage stuff like previously mentioned keeps showing up. Or maybe on the "up next" you'd find tons of videos to the one you're watching and the odds that one of them being a big spoiler is skyscraping.

I wish Youtube would give us the ability to give feedback to some videos. There is barely anything we can do against videos containing spoilers directly in the thumbnail. And of course against the most obnoxious thing ever on youtube a.k.a the ultimate clickbaity videos and you know what I mean.

I avoid looking as much as possible.
Sometimes I even block my face with my hand to avoid seeing a spoiler, such as the episode title or it’s description.
A few such examples of what would have been an amazing episode (if not for the spoiler). Was spoiled by naming the episode “(name of character) Dies” in the Naruto Shippuden anime.
Worst of all, this happened more than once... like WTFFFF??
This isn’t the only anime that subbers/uploaders/youtubers have ruined.

I've experienced that same issue with YouTube as well. For instance, I've seen titles of videos that contained spoilers for scenes in the Demon Slayer manga that haven't been adapted into the anime yet. While I do understand that some people want to share their thoughts about events in the manga that there caught up on, it does spoil important moments in anime that have yet to be adapted.

Hmn didn't think you would pick up the part on my comment that i was joking but fair enough, i didnt know about that gmail function so the more you know.
Like i said in previous comment i dont bother with sugested and recommendation videos so as soon as the video ends i just go back to the default youtube subscription page. That said most (if not all) of those videos are videos of channels i have subscribed (and which dont use spoilers for thumbnails nor titles and in the case with the recommended ones they are shown all at the top) so it baffles me that you get spoiled so often unless you watch a lot of different youtube reviewers or similar videos.
I was aware but I had to be serious for a moment and let you know about that feature.

I guess it's all for the views. If it's not the reaction/review of the latest episode/chapter it's not gonna blow up in views and the higher that is the more money one get. It's the circle of youtube, essentially. Having said that, I hope at some point Youtube stoms these people that spoil crucial moments.

That's all I really ask.

Youtube spoiled close to all anime for me. Only anime I wasn't spoiled in was TPN, which was surprising.

Anyways yeah. If you're watching a series, stay away from youtube.
