| Likes: A highly determined Protag, paired with appropriate practices that overshadows pretty much every other character in it. The character is by no means OP; he himself admits failures and actually trians himself to kill goblins, and doesn't just brag about it. Dislikes: So far, none. Basically, this anime is One Piece and Claymore combined. |

If this really existed there would be some kind of provisional status where you have to go on quests with higher ranked adventurers before you are allowed to take on quests by yourself. Their hands off approach comes at the cost of quest completion rate. You have to pay money to even post the quest. People wouldn't stand for it. A competing guild could put them out of business in a week. We have the latest main party trying to recruit people to fight the demon lords generals but come completely unprepared to fight against an ogre. The dwarf with several spell casts left doesn't cast silence on the ogre. High elf archer who was doing insane looping shots suddenly can't just repeatedly shoot out the ogres eyes. Why aren't they equipped with poisons for bigger enemies? For some reason the main party summons a ton of support to help after they clear the dungeon. Why wouldn't they just take them all into the dungeon? Every part of this world doesn't make sense but it's brutal dark fantasy style begs me to take it seriously and it's very frustrating. A lighter series (like slime datta) could get away with this level of world but the causes for negative emotions in a show need to be rooted in firm logic to not feel like bullshit. first, you don't need to take GS seriously, it's already heavily implied that it's a literal D&D campaign, RNGesus rules this world. Just because it have negative tones, doesn't mean it want to be serious. for the elf case, you can just think it's a trope, no need to be serious. I always forgot how old is she every time i read the manga and it's not a problem. for the lord case, the empire is already in war with the demon lord, in episode 3 the elf already explained most of the country military is used to defend important cities from demon invasion. The villages where goblin attacks are usually remote areas far from the military with little or no economic significance, as long the empire can secure food supply, these village need to defend themself from the goblins. for the goblin case, it's actually hard to exterminate all goblins, you see that goblins actually can get stronger (becoming shamans or hobs or champs) so it's actually quite hard to exterminate them using cheap forces. for the mage case, they have, but have you ever see a fresh graduate from university actually know how to do their first job correctly without the help of seniors? that's the case with the mage. actually the guild is having labor shortage, especially for goblins quest. goblin quest level is actually 50/50 for newbies, they can succeed or not. the problem with goblin quest is, they are low paying quest with no prestige bc majority of this quest comes from poor villages. It's very understandable why veteran adventurers doesn't want to take this quest. they are not trying to take down the demon generals, they ask GS to help them defend a city. They all silver ranks and the one who can take the demon lord is platinum ranks. Dwarf Shaman didn't have silence spell, the Priestess is, the Priestess used her last spell making protection barriers. High Elf can run out of arrows, and considering the Ogre have high regen rate, it's probably waste of time trying to take on his eye. the ogre is also a strong fighter, same attacks wouldn't worked on him. when you see a fantasy tag, you should learn to not take things seriously~ |
| how can you describe GS himself as anything BUT edgy? > he lost his hometown > he lost everything he loves and values > have lost any sense of fun > he's doing this out of revenge with a very unstable mind and if you haven't noticed it yet, he runs the entire show. he IS the show. and the priestess tagging along him, she represents his unstable moral balancing scale even though he'd never admit this to himself. and the show is all about whether he finally breaks down or goes on the path of recovery. but until then, gore and blood spray all over. and I wanna see the priestess get mindbroken or something. how will GS react to that and how will the VA act his insanity? |

It's a writing crutch Brandon Sanderson called "creating a paragon" in one of his YouTube-available lectures on storytelling. For example, in this case the author created a party full of females that are barely part of the story to be the strongest to deflect criticism on how he writes the more relevant female characters. It's the writing equivalent of "I'm not racist, I have black friends." Also, strength isn't necessarily just about martial prowess or anything physical in general. There are a lot of ways to write a strong character without having him be a "badass" man mountain who taketh no shit. The author's creation of "badass" females in no way deflects the criticisms I laid down in my first post addressing you (which is about the female protagonists), so I don't really know why you included that tidbit. |

| I don't hate it or love it. I can say the lore is compelling and animation is nice. Gs is nice and all but being a silent protag isn't really much (also applies to doomguy) and i really only like him cause he kills. Tbh not much to say about the show. Its just killing goblins, it doesnt try to be complex like Blundells Zombies or even to the extent of berserk. (One of them is actually good) I realistically can only give it a 6 for just being there. Really not much is to care for other than the spicy maymay. |

| I've already mentioned it in another thread, but I only watched episode 1 for now, but the two halves of the episode were so extremely different that I am honestly feeling confused about my own feelings regarding that first episode. The short answer: The first half of EP1 was almost garbage and the second half of EP1 was fairly decent, resulting in an "OK" evaluation from me. The long answer: The first half was terrible, it was still good when it only showed the priestess and the guild receptionist but after the adventurers showed up, it felt like EVERY. SINGLE. SCENE. just existed to showcase how utterly retarded and overconfident the newbies were. Normally I would have expected the newbies to be at least somewhat excited about their "first quest" and the novelty of doing quests in itself, but instead they were like "oh we have to do this beginner stuff for now, how annoying, let's get this over with so I can become the King of Adventurers!" and it really felt like the script was supposed to include the whole "dislike for low-level quests" and why some people probably look down on Goblin Slayer for only doing low-level Goblin subjugation quests. But they shouldn't have done that. The adventurers felt so damn unnatural and forced and cringy and over-the-top plot induced stupidity that I lost count of how many times I had to roll my eyes at these adventurers and how the anime decided to present them. It felt like the script was designed to insult the audience's intelligence or something. The second half was quite good though. The whole methodic killing of Goblins in ways that probably wouldn't be possible in most regular console/computer RPGs, but is something that people often try doing in table-top RPG (i.e. the "outside the box" methods), was very interesting to watch. By the way, I don't get the whole controversy. Neither those calling it overly dark nor those being completely shocked about the rape stuff. I felt absolutely nothing about those scenes. But I don't think it's a problem of me being "desensatized", but rather the problem of the people who are so overly shocked or offended simply being unable to properly set the borders between fiction and reality. IT'S FICTION! |

You seem to misconstrue me as the one getting "offended" because of the rape scene when I specifically worded that statement to mean that this is why females I know are put off by the rape scene, not because it's a rape scene but because of how that rape scene plays in the greater context of the narrative. Do read again and clearly this time. Try not to shut out and get defensive when opinions don't match yours. In fact, if you read my preliminary review or my post in the first page of this thread, you'll notice that the part I really took offense at is the show being 1.) one of the many all-too-easy examples of bad grimdark that people can point at to ridicule the grimdark aesthetic as a whole, and 2.) because the show's fight scenes clearly lacks either a sense of realistic weight and gravity OR great cinematography and choreography aka "either be a realistic fight sequence or be an awesome fight sequence; it's okay not to be the former as long as you're the latter". I know that. but after seeing many anime with good stories I see no reason to try something different. Cause exactly as you said anime industry is trying to make newer anime and goblin slayer is one of them. When I said only realistic people see GS. I meant about the similarities GS have with the real world. Imagine the incidents happening in real life. The MC will not think of the world. He will only think of revenge and so he will do what he wants. The world around him will go on its own way. But the person who suffered will only want revenge and follow through it. Showing little care or little attention to the world. That's exactly what happeneds in GS. Army men fight to protect their country. To them their country is their world. But to a man who wants vengeance or who has seen his family get killed brutally . Then he would only see a world where killing the said people makes him content. That is exactly what GS is trying to tell us. The world he lives in is going its own way. GS doesn't care about that he only cares for killing goblins. This is not a story where we have a super awesome world and a super powered hero MC who would bring joy to the world and kill any enemies that would threaten the world.( But there is someone like that in GS but never shown yet) . It's only about GS and his goblin slaying nothing more nothing less. But who knows in the future it may change. |

| Mainly judging the series from the manga. Yeah the anime has shit animation and is just low quality all around. Likes: > Inspired from tabletop RPGs > Has some actual interesting ideas > Fun action scenes in which Goblin Slayer commits genocide >Sword Maiden's boobs Dislikes: Holy shit the worldbuilding is shit, and it's tonally inconsistent for it being a "dark" fantasy. From Goblins needing to rape people to procreate, to goblins somehow being considered a "low-threat" even though they've been destroying villages in the frontier for years is just fucking stupid. It's no wonder Goblin Slayer's setting is a meme on /tg/. Nothing about it actually makes sense. |
