My experience is....well I started playing at Halloween, I had never heard about mafia before joining and have been learning on the fly ever since, and have played pretty much non stop since then. My reason being that he is trying to get people over the sledge role. If the sledge role is indeed very useful like i think it is, then him trying to disperse the attention over it may be the case if hes with the mafia. But if he isnt then hes trying to just say that the roles dont affect the game as much when they apparently do....so we shouldnt focus on them as much.Which is not a bad strategy but it seems to be foolhardy as the roles will keep on becoming a pain as the days pass....not sure if you guys got what i said or not lol

Im going to wait for some more people to talk like abuhumaid and millitus i have a feeling they have something to add over here.
