Can the pros please recommend some animes that involves groups fighting that has the main crew outsmarting enemies with smart, perhaps devious, plans instead of just ramming at each other with brute force.
Large scale war is good, but smaller scale like a 5-7man group taking on small/big groups are good too :)

Examples of what I"m looking for are Code Geass (with Lelouch) and Arslan senki (with Nasus)

I get a real kick when the good guys' devious plans worked out especially when the bad guys are smart themselves and the whole thing ended up in a convolute game where one tries to outplay the other

p.s. The smart guy doesn't have to be the main protagonist, it's cool if (s)he is part of the group, just as long as the main guy is not a complete fool. Preferably no ntr please.

Thanks in advance team <3

Kingdom. It's about China dynasty war. Quite epic.

Youjo Senki is exactly what you are looking for. If the mc annoys you keep watching until the beginning of the second episode and you'll get sucked in for sure anyway. It's a well written show set in the first world war where the mc is the leader of a battalion.

Sir, Thank you! 'cause Hooooly fuck! I'm just 2 episodes in and it is sooo good!! I love Everything about it from MC's logic, reincarnation, a cunty god and the little feud between him and MC. Her badass-ness and the fact that he was reincarnated as a she for the ironic effect.

I just saw 2 episodes of it. Looks to be a great series I can already see the potential feud between the Blondie and the blue hair white commander with the asian name. I must say, the animation quality, or lack thereof, is quite off-putting plus the voice acting.. I can often hear what sounded like the actor pressed the "talk button" then take an extra 0.5-1.5 seconds before (s)he started talking. The story seems legit though so I'll stick with it :)

Thanks man.

Anime does not suck, season 1 is just a little behind in expectations but season 2 definitely makes up for it.

However the manga is better. I recommend reading or watching Kingdom. You will not be disappointed.

the "animation" if you even want to call this disgrace as that, gives me eye cancer. well what would i expect from someone with a mean score of 8,5. you basically love everything no matter how big the flaws are.

How in the name of god does Hunter Hunter have anything to do with armies and war tactics? the chimera ant arc is only 50 episodes and even that is not very strategic or tactical nor is it really a war. The rest of the show has zero large scale conflict and is basically a martial arts anime.

Seen Utawa and Valkyria, brings back some memories for sure <3. The other 2 were already on my list.... wayyy down on the list. I'll move them up since you recommend them :)

Seen tempest and Geass, I've got the rest per your recommendation now :) Will get to them soon. Vandadis seems fun but why is the score so low? Is it just average or is it not everyone's cup of tea

I agree with the animation looking...like someone pulled some shit out of their ass and threw it on the screen. that being said the score and what I've heard keeps me interested somewhat. Reading the manga would probably be the way to go. Since I cbf reading though, I'm gonna go down the anime route. Hopefully it won't damage my eyes too much :)

That's cool. I like the outsmarting part, doing it on a large scale is just an added bonus :) Thanks I've been putting off Jojo for so long, Might be time to start plowing through it

well the manga and the anime isn't about just who is the stronger puncher, as it always has a twist and some special rules are applied in order to win. moreover it has a unique way of fighting in constant with the stereotypical material arts genre; all the characters are always strategically planning their attacks and at the same time try to discover how their opponents powers work. there are no silly "hidden technics" that the mc unlocks during their fights and instantly wins. also it has a really balanced power system where no ability is to powerful and lacks a weakness which enforces the characters to have to think strategically than marsh to the enemy. well to be true it has nothing to do with war tactics and politics but the op said "Large scale war is good, but smaller scale like a 5-7man group taking on small/big groups are good too :)" so for example the York city arc is a good recommendations, as I especially liked the opposite group that where not the stereotypical bad guys and they had some clever plans that worked out and managed to fool the main characters.

well I agree that h h x h is a material arts manga, but the reason I recommended it was not for the tactics that lead to the battle but for the tactics that are being used inside the battle

If you do decide to start jojo, part 1(jonathan joestar) isn't so exciting because he's a generic shonen mc with pure heart and all that shit. story gets better at part 2(joseph joestar) tho. third jojo is also quite smart.

Do I have to sit through the 1st season to be able to watch the rest or is it entirely skip-able?

So basically Kingdom. You just described it to a T. Military, real war strategies, not necessarily the one making the strategies.

Yeah I'm gonna check it out right after I finish Maid dragon. It got such a high score with so shit a graphic. Looking forward to some spectacular writing.

I actually saw 7 seconds of Kingdom's first episode and threw it into my archive. The art was so bad it couldn't even be called art. Just some CG blocks moving.

Still deciding between going to Kingdom next or Jojo. The stream of recommendations are endless on that one, it seems to have a LOT of themes covering multiple genres. Looks like a trolly show to me, but I'll have to try it to find out

-does No Game No Life count? It's basically a war anime, just mixed in with fantasy, and no actual tanks, guns, bullets etc. Also not a full on mage battles or anything.

well while Griffith is a military genius we don't really see what actions he takes to win over the kingdom as berserk story is told through the eyes of a soldier (guts) rather than a tactician(Griffith)

you can watch part 2 right away, since the protag is different but part 1 is kinda good too and it's only like 10-12 eps so it's really recommended you watch it.

LoGH is on my list. I Checked out ep.1 and it looked really promising. The 110 eps is a bit of a hurdle though. I'm waiting for a time block to marathon it, maybe after double kingdom 1&2
