He grows up from that quite a bit as the series progresses in a slow and realistic way, and as a person who's fond of both jerks and good character development, he's a good protagonist in my book. I have no clue how it's gonna end though. I'm assuming maybe with Other than that I really don't know. I don't even know what the endgame ships are, assuming that somebody eventually does start dating somebody else by the end of the series. Like I can clearly see when something doesn't work right in universe, or shouldn't work right but does anyways, or isn't explained or explained well enough. But.. when things fit it just feels natural and I unfortunately couldn't tell you which one feels the most natural. Ya feel me?? Although, because I'm watching it currently so it's easier to recall, Mushishi does feel very natural. It's easy to just accept things at face value because it just makes sense or the characters play things off well enough to where it feels like it makes sense to them so it makes sense to you too because it feels natural. K scores higher in aesthetics but Opm does move better in general. Other runner ups are various Bones, Madhouse, KyoAni, Mappa, and Trigger animations because those are some of my favorite studios (although more solely for animation rather than content with Trigger, since I've only actually watched two of their series and one I didn't like so much). And it did take a slightly different turn than that, because he did fulfill his dreams. Although it wasn't exactly how he imagined and he still had to work really hard to get where he wanted so that was still within what I was expecting, and it was like that for like 7 or 8 episodes. Then the Guillotine Gorilla showed up and I was like.. Woah. Hold on. This isn't PG-13. Then it was like the creators had a competition with themselves to make each arc/villain more and more bizarre. And it was. Samflam was entirely bizarre (excluding the first 7 or 8 episodes). I think it deserves a higher score though, like not an 8 or anything but when I actually looked at the score on mal for the first time I was really surprised because I was maybe expecting a 7.5. Now it's a 6.99. :( |

Anime gives me happiness. As somebody who suffers from dissociation and depression anime really helps to keep those things at bay. Like whenever I'm feeling sad that my mom and sister hate my dad or scared of my mom's stalker ex (stalker is not my dad, for clarification) or feeling numb and melancholic for no particular reason I'll just think about how much I love Ouran Highschool Host Club or another one of my favorites and everything is okay again. There are few things that I can just think about and be filled with happy thoughts and smiles and anime is a lot of that (other things being my human best friend and my cat best friend). I just.. feel like my typical state of mind is bored, lonely, stressed or some other negative concoction and anime makes me feel things other than that. It's nice. Fiction does influence reality. When Jaws aired shark deaths skyrocketed. After the Harry Potter movies hundreds of owls were bought as pets. I don't think anime would be any different in influencing people and how they think. Whether it influences you positively or negatively depends on what you're watching and what kind of person you are. If an anime you love and respect has certain ideas or elements, there's a good chance you might start to agree with those ideas or try to bring those elements into real life. Unless you can acutely separate reality from fiction or are stubborn in your beliefs. I watch anime for a few reasons (aside from the fact it makes me intensely happy). 1. I love the absurd creativity. I might be a bit biased because once I started watching anime I watched very little else, but from my experience you just don't see the stuff you see in anime anywhere else. Like yeah there's some weird stuff, Lost was pretty crazy, but not anywhere near as weird as anime can be and I love that. There's never gonna be an American equivalent to Letter Bee, Princess Tutu, Assassination Classroom, Show by Rock, Durarara, ect. And I haven't seen Jojo's Bizarre Adventure but I'm fairly certain it tops all of those in eccentrcity. I love the odd tropes that you would only see in anime too, like the dead mom side ponytail. 2. I've always really loved animation and I like the way anime looks in general. The good stuff is eye candy for me. 3. My preferred protagonist is someone close to my age, and in most American TV I watch the characters seem to be to too old (or at least rugged and older looking) or too young to be really relatable whereas in anime the protagonists are usually in their teens or younger 20s. 4. I also really love the kind of characters that anime has. Which is a little vague, I know, since there are a lot of different kinds of anime characters, but I'm mostly referring to my favorite kinds of characters. For one thing, I love that (for the most part) anime lets boys be feminine and girls be masculine in a way I see much less often in American media. Whether it be in tiny ways like boys with vibrant pink hair or girls who hit harder than men. Or in big ways where some characters are so androgynous it's hard to tell what gender they are. Stuff like that. And I've said this before in a different post but I love sassy and/or crazy characters. There's plenty of those in all kinds of media but I'm shallow so I like the anime ones much much better because they're much much cuter lol. 5. Lastly, as a whole, anime is more gay than most other things. It feels more welcoming at least. Like, yeah queer baiting is a thing, but anime is less obnoxious about it. Shows like Supernatural and Sherlock hint and give fanservice but John is married and Dean explicitly sleeps with woman on screen. On the other hand, in most anime I've seen even if the implied gay couple isn't officially a couple by the end of the series, there's usually not straight couple that's official either. With anime, for me, I think it's more often just open for interpretation rather than queer baiting, and that's perfectly fine. I think that's better than there being not any gay at all lol, which is usually the case in common tv. Again, I might be a bit biased? Since, like I said earlier, I don't watch much else other than anime nowadays. So hopefully none of that sounded dumb because it's actually everywhere lol.
