This should really be a no brainer given how amazing the anime is but I've heard less than stellar words about the madoka magica manga.

How does the manga compare to the anime?
Worth the read or a waste of money?
How faithful is the manga to the anime?

And YES , i did copy most of the text from the other topic i made earlier :p

Manga is almost exactly the same as anime, with only some minor changes. From what I remember 1 chapter = 1 episode, so for example well-known Mami's scene happens during the 3rd chapter.

It has some downsides though, for example the art is really cute, and the atmosphere of it is not shown as well as in the anime, where even though the artstyle was adorable and all, from the begining you knew that shit is going down soon. At least that how I felt.
Other thing is that Kyuubey actually has different expressions, and not everyone like it. For me it works better for a manga actually, since he can make some freaky faces as well. Don't remember more differences, only that witches looked differently (but given how they were shown in the anime, it's pretty normal).

Well, IMO manga is as good as anime and not a waste of money, especially if you liked the anime ;) Though if you are counting for something new that wasn't shown in the anime you might be disappointed with it, I guess.

There's a spin off manga about mami and Kyoto before madoka came along. I suggest reading that, it's very good

Though the anime left a more powerful impact on me, the manga was still pretty good and worth the read.

It's basically a watered down version of the show. Not bad, and worth reading if you're a fan, but nowhere near as great as the show. A lot of tiny details from the show are omitted and some scenes are shortened, and while the art is nice it does lack the style of the show. There are some interesting changes that make it worth checking out, but they're rather minor and doesn't change the story. It's more graphic than the show, although not too graphic, and Kyubey does display facial expressions. Other than that, there's some slight change in the designs, like Sayaka's sword. All in all, it's pretty good on it's own, but it definitely lacks the impact of the anime and if anyone haven't seen it yet I definitely say watch the anime over the manga.

Now, The Different Story is one that's definitely worth reading.

Definitely only worth reading if you a big fan of the TV series which I can serve as an example of one. I don't really like the different story which is kinda disappointing.
