Well, that certainly didn't disappoint. In fact, they did a pretty good job, even tough the story went wondering for a while. At least it was much better than Kurenai (so far).
I didn't like how they changed Juu's design, but Ame's scenes were definitely moe.

Now, where's Yukihime. I want my cosplay scene!

It didn't disappoint, but wasn't what I was expecting either!!!!!! I thought this was in the school, drama, sci-fi genre, but it turned out to be a murder mystery, and a pretty disturbing one! D:

That said, I really loved the atmosphere throughout, in a creeped out way, especially Ame for at least half of it. Considering the inital implied set up, that's definitely one way to get rid of a possible harem situation ^^;

Mamoru Kanbe's direction was splendid and the original script by Kure-nai's Kentarō Katayama was great, especially dialogues. On top of this, animation and art direction are top notch (thank you Brains Base), although I don't really like the chara-design. No, really, a good piece of work, mixing elements from Kure-nai, Elfen Lied, Higurashi and the Type Moon universe, I loved it !

Seems.....quite interesting really. Went into this not really expecting anything and was pleasantly surprised. Went from school, stalker, murder mystery, harem and then Higurashi all in 40 minutes.
Looking forward to more. Btw wonder what happened to higurashi girl.

What does this have to do with Kurenai...this was good in its own right...except for the design of the main character, but I'm not getting how this is in the same universe.

Three of the thirteen "Hidden" families were included.
Ochibana, Ame's family. Kirishima, Yukihime's (Volume2) family. Endou, Madoka's (Volume2) family.

Also, Jyuu's mother is Benika, if you remember who she is.

I don't think I even remember there being 13 big families.

Jyuu's mother is Benika!? She had a son! Wow. I wish they would have alluded to that.

Maybe I shouldn't have calledl them "big".
Remember Yuuno? Her family is one of them.
You see Benika in volume 2. Kicking her son's ass.

Yeah, I remember Yuuno, I thought it was just them and the Kuhoins. As for the 2nd volume, unless you mean the second episode of Kurenai, I don't read manga...or novels.

The Kuhouins is one of the other 3 families that has absolute power in the world, mostly with money and fame.

Houzuki and the other 12 families also controls the world, but half of them are either gone because of their bloodline or had given up. All of the families excels physically and mentally compared to normal people, and each of them has their own secret special abilities and supernatural powers.

I would assume that they would make another one for volume 2.

That right there explained more about the world than all of Kure-nai ever did. So what are the Kuhoin's power? Or do the 3 main families not have powers?

I really liked it, since it's pretty obvious the author took A LOT of inspiration from Higurashi. I mean... stalkers, baseball bats, tasers, red-haired girls, blue & white uniforms, mysteries, murders, lol. 07th Expansion anyone?

Can't wait for the next episode desu. I just hope in a bit more of originality.

Funny thing is that, the novel came before Higurashi.

Hai desu. The light novel of DTNK came before the light novel of Higurashi, but the game of Higurashi came before the light novel of DTNK, so Higurashi was actually created before. Not to mention that the DTNK anime came 3 years after the first Higurashi series desu. So who actually inspired who, kana? Kana?
Not that it really matters, since they're both great.

Huh ? I personally can't understand how your vision works so permit me to ask: Do you mean their personalities & their Harem situation that they are in ? Because other than that, they share nothing similar in design except for the same blond hair... Juu was frigging taller, is like a tank type of fighter unlike the" K.O in 1 hit" MnH main lead; Juu looks more like a model dude than a delinquent while MnH main lead is more manly & delinquent like... <_<

It was more on his character design or at least his drawn style. When I first saw him, my mind just screamed MIDORI NO HIBI. I'm not so sure about his characterization cause it's been a while since I last saw it.

The "scarily similar" expression seem like an exaggeration now to me.

This looks extremely promising.

If they manage to somehow continue this delving into human insanity and so on, then it will be really good, but i hope it doesn't somehow lose momentum.

Pretty interesting beginning, and it seems that this series will lean more on the strong character development than story (at least for now). Not sure how I feel about the episodic feel yet, I'll have to wait for more to fully judge that aspect of the series. Overall, a very nice way to start, 8/10.
